Hi All:
we are running premium edition of SBS 2003. I cannot recive email from
remote location. However I can ping the fqdn server name and I can ping ip
address. When I click "Test Account Setting" in Out look 2003 I receive
message under error tab "The specified server was found but there was not
response from the server. Please verify the port and SSl information is
correct.

We do have ISA Server 2000 running. Is it possible that port 110 is closed
by default and if so how do I open it. Please guide.

Thank you

Jamal

Hi Jamal -

Just to make sure I'm reading your situation correctly, you're trying to
retrieve email from your SBS via POP3, right?

First, ensure that the Microsoft Exchange POP3 service is set to Automatic &
started. In SBS2k3, the Pop3 service is disabled by default.

But if the CEICW has been run, it should have been set to enabled and
automatic.

I can't comment on whether it should have been turned on by the CEICW - all
I know is that I had to manually set the service to automatic & start it for
the one client I have who needs to be able to pop their server. I'll have
to double-check, but IIRC the only Pop3 option in the CEICW applies to the
Pop3 Connector, which my client didn't need, so I didn't select. But now
you've got me thinking Marina, so I'll have to experiment a little . . .

Hello Jamal,

Are you using the POP3 connector in SBS 2003 to retrieve your email, or do
you have an Internet mail profile setup on your Outlook client?

Well, I just setup a client last Friday and I know I didn't have to turn on
services manually.
