I have a SBS 2003 Installation with an added application server. I installed
the Business Contact Manager Update to Outlook 2003 on the app server. When
I attempt to run outlook off the application server, I am informed that BCM
will not work on profile and needs SBS.

Is it possible to use an application server to run Outlook with Business
Contact Manager? If so, how?

Outlook (in any flavor) should not be installed on the SBS server

Outlook with BCM is to be installed on the workstation and the update =
applied to the workstation. The information in BCM cannot be shared

The following is from the KB 831747 which talks about the update.

Business Contact Manager is designed for small businesses that are made =
up of 25 or fewer users who primarily use Internet service providers =
(ISPs) e-mail accounts, Post Office Protocol (POP) e-mail accounts, and =
HTTP-based e-mail accounts. We recommend that businesses with =
sophisticated requirements, like multi-user and contact sharing, =
consider Microsoft Exchange Server as a collaborative communications =
server. We also recommend that these businesses use Microsoft Business =
Solutions CRM for lead management, opportunity management, and incident =
management, with a searchable knowledge base and reporting tools.

Your other option is to setup a Public Folder in Exchange to store =
shared contact information.

Thanks, Chris. I do not have Outlook installed on the SBS server. Outlook
is installed on a physically separate application server running Win2K3.
Users share the application server in order to get thier desktop and
applications.

I was under the impression that BCM would work as a part of a SBS2K3
installation. Is that not correct?

Are you saying that the BCM data will ONLY work with a 1-1 local Outlook
mailbox/.pst file?

Are you saying that the only way to offer BCM type functionality to a small
business customer is to upgrade them to Exchange and CRM Server? This seems
like a lot for a good deal of folks.

Paul,

If you can be a bit patient, the answer will be changing. I've been
beta testing the new Office Small Business Management (Small Business
Accounting and a sharable BCM). I think it will satisfy your need:

Thanks, Jeffrey. I appreciate your taking time out to help. I do have the
beta Version of the accounting app that I could install. I think that will
be a tougher sell, perhaps mitigated if the import of QuickBooks data works
well.

In your testing and opinion, can BCM type stuff be offered to folks running
SBS in the event that they don't want to move to a new accounting
application?
