Hello,

We have a new employee starting in a weeks time, problem is that his
name is the same as another employee here,

I thought that SBS would let you have two users with the same name
details as long as their usernames were different i.e. jsmith, jsmith2
etc, this isn't the problem.

The add user wizard in SBS won't let me enter two users with the same
first and second names.

I know I could just have "John Smith 2" as his AD name, but any emails
he sends will have the sender name as "John Smith 2" right? John Smith
two will be taking a senior role and I don't want a scrappy looking
"from" name on his emails.

How can I get round this ?

John

do they not have a middle name, to which you could have the initial of the
middle name in the email address?

I dont understand why.
As for his name in Active Directory, you can change it to whatever you like,
as long as it differs from the other one.
As for his email, you'll have to use his second letter of first name or
something.
If you really want him to have priority over the other user (because he's
more senior and you want it to look professional) then you'll have to ask
the other guy if he's willing to change his address to something that maybe
includes HIS middle initial.

Either way, somebody gets a different looking email

After having three people with the same name, we decided to put the
department or job title after the name: Mark Smith - Sales. Looks OK on
external emails, too.

My Mom does not have a middle name. I do not know if her siblings have
middle names. Maybe that was some regional German thing as I have at
least one German friend with a middle name. I think Mom is actually
2nd or 3rd generation American but the region of Indiana where she was
born was thick with German farmers back then in 1929.

I run into this when I am a non-Exchange user at an account and I want
to make myself a contact just to send backup notices to my real world
email address. Instead of Jim Behning I make my contact James Behning.

I don't see the big deal here...

one account can be named jsmith@domanin.com , johns@domain.com ,
johnsmith@domain.com , js@domain.com... I think even john.smith@domain.com
is different.

Or you can just fire the guy that's holding the account name... say
something like "Hey... were are sorry to have to terminate you, but we can't
have two employees with the same name... can't you imagine the problems with
aswering the phone??? But... wait... we might have another option: What do
you think about changing that ugly name of yours???" :-)

What do you think ???

Until you get two with the same name in the same department... *then* you
will have to fire somebody :-)

Its not the email addresses / logon names that are the problem, its the
display name. Worked it out anyway after fiddling around with the rename
option in active directory users after adding the user with the SBS Add User
wizard.

I would like to fire the other guy, but he is my boss and wouldn't take "You
are fired" comming from me :P
