Hi there,

I use SBS2k and ISA, would like to know the following:

I have heard people say are you using NAT?

I understand that my network should only have one unique external IP
address, say my address is 111.222.333.1 and can have many internal e.g.
192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.256 of which other networks could have the same
address'.
I also understand that this is to save IP address'.

However i am unsure how to setup NAT. Is it something which i need to install?
How do i configure NAT is it in the router settings? I know i have come
across this in ISA server

is this a two NIC ISA? Whe're missing a little info that may make
explanation easier.

Public IP 111.222.333.1
|
router I don't know the IP range here
|
External NIC
SBS/ISA
Internal NIC

or in a single NIC

router providing public IP
|
ISA/SBS and rest of network

Internet Connectivity for Small Business Server 2000
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sbs/2000/maintain/inetcnct.mspx

"... ISA Server 2000 provides several services for your Small Business
Server network, including routing and network address translation (NAT)
services and firewall service..."

To use the routing and NAT services, ISA requires 2 NICs in the SBS server.
When you run the Internet Connection Wizard and set up the SBS for VPN
access (remote access), NAT is set up for you.

Without ISA and the SBS wizards, you would need 2 NICs in the server and
then need to set up RRAS (Routing and Remote Access Service) to implement
NAT.

How To Configure the NAT Service in Windows 2000
http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:siTT7XXzYh0J:support.microsoft.com/default.aspx%3Fscid%3Dkb%3BEN-US%3B310357+RRAS+nat&hl=en

If you only have one NIC in the server, you would need another way on the
network to implement NAT. This is usually accomplished with a router. Most
routers used for Internet access come with the factory (default) settings
already configured for NAT.

If you have a network with SBS + 2 NICs + ISA + router, you actually are a
doing a double NAT (once for ISA, and again for the router).
