I am looking to upgrade an SBS 4.0 server to SBS 2003 and
have a number of questions:

1. Is is possible to carry out a clean install of SBS 2K3
onto new hardware and transfer users, data, mailboxes etc
from SBS 4.0?

2. If its necessary to upgrade to SBS 4.5 first, are
there any major issues with upgrading to SBS 4.5 as I am
concerned there is no easy fall back if problems are
encountered. Where can I obtain this upgrade to 4.5.

3. Likewise, any issues with upgrading to SBS 2000 or SBS
2003.

4. Can an OEM version of SBS 4.0 be upgraded to a later
version using a full boxed product?

Regards

Matthew

Basically the only option you have is to install 2003 cleanly on a new =
box.
There is no inplace upgrade.

You could use a 3rd box for actually moving the User Accounts, and Data, =
but this greatly depends on how many users you are talking about?

Moving Exchange can be a challenge but is very doable
There are two options here: 1) Exmerge or 2) upgrading upgrading the =
information store a few times

You need the following document and then after reading ask away with any =
questions you still have
Migrating from Small Business Server 4.5 or Windows NT 4.0 Server to =
Windows Small Business Server 2003. This is pretty applicable even =
though it says 4.5

No. 1 (a clean install) may be the better approach. You'll need recreate
all your accounts on the SBS2K3 server, copy all your company and user data
to a separate disk (internal IDE or SCSI, external USB, or a CD), export the
user's Exchange mail to .pst files, copy your company and user data to the
new server and re-establish the appropriate permissions. User desktop
settings will be lost when you join the users to the new SBS2K3 domain, so
you'll need to plan accordingly.
