I've got an SBS 2000 server running exchange & ISA along with file & print
sharing. I'm trying to setup POP3 services for external users. I've
configured the necessary ISA filters but It still doesn't work. I can
connect to the POP3 server from the LAN and can also telnet to the POP3
server from the LAN. However, from the WAN side I can't login to the POP3
server, nor can I telnet to the POP3 server, it simply says "Connect to host
lost.". I can telnet to the SMTP server from outside. The installed
service packs are SP4 on the server, SP3 on exchange, and SP1 on ISA. Any
help would be appreciated.

Tom

Hi Tom,

Did you forward port 110 from your router to your external nic IP?

The short answer is yes.

Since the firewall/router is ISA server I went through the mail server setup
in ISA server. That creates all the necessare filters for POP3 in and SMTP
in/out. I've got the exact same setup on another client computer and it
works just great. If I can't get this resolved by Saturday I need to call
Microsoft PSS as the customer is not happy at this time.

Hi Tom,

You should be able to telnet to your public IP on port 110 first from the
internet. If that doesn't work, than your router is not forwarding port 110,
or your SBS is not setup right to use the POP3 office service.

I'm guessing Tom hasn't got a router.

Tom, rather than using the ISA wizard you need to use the SBS ICW in the
to-do list.
