Hell, not by me, but I'm stuck on this message trying to
move SBS 4.0 (upgrade to 4.5, but have to install 4.0
first)to new hardware.

I assume I will have to call MS Support to get past this
one.

Any helpful pointers would be appreciated.

Hi Mark -

Not familiar with that message. But you do realize that you don't have to
install SBS4.0 first, right? You should be able to just do a clean install
of SBS 4.5 - and during the install it say that you're installing from an
upgrade version and it cannot find a qualifying product, yadda yadda yadda .
. . At that point, just pop in your SBS4.0 CD1 (your qualifying product)
and you should be good to go.

Chad:

Found this thread. Seems to indicate that Mark may need to do the SBS 4.0
install before upgrading if he has the SBS 4.5 Upgrade CDs...

Ahh . . . amazing what details we forget over time. Although I think that
most of my memories of SBS4.0 were so traumatizing that they've been
emotionally blocked for years . . . ;^)

That's the main reason I surf the NG archives so much ... unlike me, they
never forget. :-)

Fortunately, I was able to miss the party for SBS 4.0 (by less than 6 months
though).

I only had one experience with SBS4.0 - and that was right about the time I
was setting up my first straight NT4 box and being introduced to Microsoft
networking. I played a supporting role with upgrading that SBS4.0 to 4.5 -
and I just recall that the whole SBS 4.0 experience was, um . . . unique .

Mark

I have the SBS procdure in front of me. The SBS 4.5
upgrade Cd has an empty i386 folder. Might make install
slightly difficult.

Now if I can just figure out how to get the 4.5 migrate
user to run without a Doc Watson so I don't have to
recreate all of these users and their shares, etc. life
will be good. But it can't connect to the newly created
Exchange Server and then dies. Oh, goody.

After that if the Exchange Migration also goes by the
book, all will be right as rain.

But nothing else has so far has gone right the first time.

Thanks for jumping in to help. At this rate, beers might
morph into dinner, provided you have some good reason to
ever be in Fargo, ND. ;-)

Hell, I remember cracking the shrink-wrap on my first copy
of Windows 3.0, but not fondly.
Got through all the issues I can possibly stomach for one
day. Thanks for you help.

Tomorrow: why user import can't connect to exchange and
pukes after each user. And why I can't get the old
server's Exchange files to work.

Man, this old stuff is fun. It would be better if my
recollection of prior Fun with SBS 4.x were a lot fresher.
