Hi I tried to login to my server and have this problem:
terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections

Now, what happen is I know I am limited to 2 connections.

However, if I disconnect a remote desktop connection (RDC), I can
always login again with no problem. The new RDC will simply log me in
to my last session. It activates passive session, or things like that.

If I do not disconnect the RDC and just leave it there, there will be a
minimized RDC window in my client. I can just click on it, and login
again. It activates the passive session.

One day, there is no minimized RDC windows, and when I start a new one,
I got the error message: terminal server has exceeded the maximum
number of allowed connections

How can that happen?

Is there a way to increase the number of maximum connection allowed to
more than 2?

Also is there a way to automatically disconnect after a few hours? What
I mean is automatically disconnect, NOT automatically log of. You see,
the server is used to run many programs that run for days.

Thanks,

Jonathan

you cannot increase the number of connections
You can force the session to logoff after a period of time.
Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration
Click on the Connections Folder
Right click on the Connection in the right window and chosse properties
Click on the sessions tab
Configure as necessary

Now I got the opposite problem.

I got a bunch of programs I want to run on the server. The programs run
for days.

Now after a short time, when I logged in, I got:
The remote session was ended because the idle timeout limit was
reached. This limit is set by the server administrator or by network
policies.

My server administrator, hostgator must have changed something to make
that happen. Actually after a certain amount of time, I only want the
session to get disconnected, not ended. Yet it's ended because
everytime I logged in again, programs that I run simply don't run
anymore.

I checked out
Administrative Tools > Terminal Services Configuration

and I see there is no timeout limit set. Where else can this be set
anyway? I want to get rid time out. I think I am better off getting
locked out once in a while rather than not being able to run my
programs at all.

In the session tab, I only see:
overide user settings (checkbox checked)
end a disconnected session (never)
active session limit (never)
idle session limit (never)

When session limit is reached or connection is broken
I choose disconnect session rather than end session.

So it's all never.

I wonder what user settings is. I checked around
computer management. I saw group administrator and user administrator.
Again no time out settings is done.

Where in the earth the time out settings is set.
