hi

i seem to be getting slow access to the sbs 2000 server from wndows xp
clients.
one of the configurations that the sbs 2000, two nics and a dynamic ip
address, isa and a modem\router needs is to exclude the external nic from the
lat range. See below.

f. Check to make sure the External NIC IP address is not included in the LAT
range.

SBS Console | Internet Security and Acceleration Server 2000 | Servers and
Arrays | | Network Configuration | Local Address Table (LAT)

the question i have is - if my internal network is set to 10.1.1.10 and my
external network is set to 192.168.1.2 what should i put in the range in the
lat to exclude the external nic?

also, i have followed the following doco see below

http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=151

and my clients have very, very slow access to the server. What can be the
problem?

i have run an ipconfig from the workstatons and it comes up with ip address
in the 10.1.1.x range, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, gateway is the server
ip address and dns is the server ip address and dhcp is the server ip
address. The sbs firewall client is configured on each workstation. If i
try to do an nslookup of the server from the client machine via machine name
it comes up that it cannot find the dns server and the dns server is unknown.
Then it returns the server name and ip address. The same thing happens if i
try to run nslookup from the server.

Clients are running wndows xp sp2. The windows xp sp2 firewall is turned off.

I need help ASAP.

The connection to the server was running ok, we went on holidays and came
back to find very slow access to the server. It has gradually gotten slower
and slower.

any ideas?

thanks

Hi Don,

Please try to stick with one post so we can track your questions and answers
more easily.

In one of your other posts you said that the hard drive in the SBS 2000
server was failing. This could definitely be the source of the "slow
access" problem.

As a precaution, please make sure you do full backups nightly of your SBS
2000 server.
