    - Uninstall xp pro and install to another machine? Hi, All, One of our user bought a new laptop (with XP home). He wants to use the new laptop to replace his old laptop which is in our SBS2000 domain. He has XP pro. installed at this old laptop by the previous IT guy. The use wants to continue to use his XP pro.. So he wants me to uninstall the XP pro. and install it at this new laptop and join the domain. I know all xp has to be activated with end user license. I have never tried this before. I don't know whether I can do this or not. If I can do this, how to do this without causing activation information confiction? Please help. Thanks a lot in advance.     - Network Adapters in Server Our Dell Power Edge 800 came with a network adapter installed, and another by itself in a box. SBS 2003, of course. The setup instructions tell me to use two adapters, but the setup poster indicates that one can use a single adapter.     - Replacing NT4.0 server with SBS Server We just bought a Dell Power Edge 800 with SBS. I would like to 'demote' the NT 4.0 server (800MHZ with 256 MB RAM) to a workstation whose only purpose would be to back up files on the network, and store disk images of the workstations. The new server is not in place, and I've not connected to the Internet. It's just on the network with a single network adapter. My question is what should I do to demote the current server to lowly workstation status? As for the workstations, I plan on working on them so they will join the new server's domain.     - 2000 CALs: fulfillment media (ugh) I am in the process of trying to add some additional CALs to our SBS2000 system. From my understanding I need to purchase SBS2003 license and get extra fulfillment media (floppy disk) so I can add them to the system. I bought the licenses from Dell and mentioned the fulfillment media. When the licenses arrived there was no extra media, the only thing I got was a piece of paper saying I have 5 more licenses. How can I add them to the system? I have call Dell 5 times (support,sales etc) and NO ONE knows anything about this special fulfillment media. This has been very frustrating and I don't see a solution. Can I get this media from a different vendor? Am I asking for the wrong thing? Can I add the licenses without this extra media?     - Out of office Assistant not working I have Small Business Server 2000 with Exchange 2000 SP3. All client have Outlook 2003 installed. When i enable the "Out of Office Assistant" in Outlook 2003 and i send myself an email from an external email account i do not get a Out of Office reply. The email is received ok to the exchange mailbox. What could be the problem? Is this an issue with Exchange 2000 or the Client.     - SBS2k - Outlook query All, Have SBS2k on a site, and have been asked that mail to 'A' is also copied to 'B'. Have down this in AD, keeping a copy so 'A' still gets email. Problem is, as soon as email hits 'B', a read receipt is sent to the original sender of the email to 'A'. 'B' swears that the option box does not come up for her to decide whether a receipt should, or should not be sent. Have looked on the local Outlook, and in AD/Exchange, and cannot see why this should be happening. Any thoughts?     - Dynamic IP and SBS 2000/Echange Hi everyone, A friend of mine is setting up a small company to use SBS 2000. Currently the only internet access available to them is either Cable (Non business class) or dialup. What I am wondering is how well Exchange, and ISA are going to work with a Dynamically assined IP from the ISP. The basic configuration is: Server running SBS2000, 3 NICs, Soho3 Firewall, 16 Port 3Com Super Stack, 5 Win2k workstations, with Office 2000. Because of the remote location, the Cable provider has no "business class" services, just straight "end user" services. The Dialup ISP does offer business class, but at a unreasonable cost. I have already checked, and yes, the ports used by SBS are wide open from the cable company, it is not going to block the use of the ports, but I am wondering how it will work to try and sign a Domain dynamically. Is it even possible to configure he new domain that way? The Soho with assign internal Static IPs, but the router/Cable modem will be assigned a dynamic.     - ASP application Hi SBS2000 all latest patches. XP Pro SP2 & IE6 all latest patches. A customer has a guy writing a .Net application to run on their Intranet. One of the functions of this app is to send a print to a local workstation LPT1 port. (Workstations are XP Pro SP2 with admin rights). He has tried running this on his own W2k server running on a laptop & it works. Trying it on a workstaion attached to the server does not work & he assumes that something is blocking either his .Net app or possibly Windows Scripting Host. He also blamed our ISA server which I have advice that the Intranet does not use ISA. Each workstation runs McAfee Enterprise v8.0i patch 10 & we have tried disabling that. Also we have tried disabling The workstation ISA Firewall & also the IE proxy settings. We also tried running the app on an old XP Pro workstation without SP2. Wscript.exe has been run on the server.     - DNS question For windows 2003, the DNS of the workstation has to be set to the ipaddress of the 2003 server. My server address is 192.168.168.1 Now I have a firewall gateway device (which is my DHCP server) with the address 192.168.168.2 For static workstations there is no problem because i can set the DNS and gateway accordingly, but for notebooks, I am not sure how I can set this. My SNTP settings and sample event log entries are shown at the message end. I had to reset the NTP server list when a previous NTP server went off the air. I believe the problem started around then. I turne don the informational events after I started getting the warnings. 1) Why do I get a warning that the NTP server did not respond almost immediately followed by informational messages saying it did? 2) Is the high skew rate a sign that my hardware clock is getting off or does it mean something else? 3) I noticed that event ID 11 does not show a server name. There are two adjacent spaces. I believe the underlying windows return message has a server name. Could this be a sign that my server list is honked up? If so, how do I fix it?     - Removable Storage Manager Issue This is driving me nuts! Removable Storage Manager doesn't see my Quantum DLT4000 anymore; it has worked fine for years. Itâ??s listed under Device Manager (This device is working properly) with Microsoft drivers. I've also tried Quantum and Veritas drivers and it still doesn't appear in RSM. No errors in event view.     - Problem adding NT4 workstation to the domain Hello, I have a customer who administates his win2000 domain. This domain includes Win98, WinNT4 Win2000 and WinXp clients. Somewhere recently something has happened, which caused that the WinNt4 workstations could not logon to the domain anymore. The other type of workstations dont have problems, specific WinNt4. I already installed a fresh WinNt4 workstation, but still problems. - I can add the workstation to the domain. - system must reboot to activate, but when i try to logon to the domain is receive the following error: Computer account doesn't exist or the accounts passowrd is incorrect.     - POP3 Connector doesn't work for all mailboxes I am running SBS 2000. I have the POP3 connector retrieving mail from our ISP for 6 mailboxes. Only 4 of them work. The other 2 give 2 errors each in the event log. Event ID: 12050 Source: POP3 Connector Category: Download Description: Failed to check the POP3 account for Username at Hostname on port 110.     - XP Pro misaligned print outs. As we are rolling out XP Pro and replacing Windows 98, printing to labels and forms are getting out of alignment. Both networks are SBS 2000, but I doubt it is a network issue, probably something weird about XP Different apps and printers are doing the same thing, everything was fine in Windows 98, now with XP extra blank lines are inserted throwing off the alignment on labels and forms. Even printing to a file with the generic/text only printer gives misalligned results. The printers are both tractor fed dot matrix, one is a panasonic the other is an oki.     - Off Line File Folder Problem I have a SBS 2003 install, users with laptops running WinXP. The all have a folder on the server that is set up for Off Line file use. Most all files seem to work fine, they go away and make changes and the changes end up on the server. However, they produce Power Point Slide shows that have 50 Plus photos. If the photos are in the Offline Folder and they work disconnected from the network, the Power Point file never saves. The same file produced on the network will save. If we put the Photos on the local disk of the laptop, The same file will save when disconnected from the network. Also: If you make the powerpoint file from the local copy of the photos (while connected to the network and then disconnect), you can save the powerpoint file to the offline folder to the original name without a problem. But you cannot "Save as" this will hang up and never save. Any suggestions on correcting this behavior? I would like all of their files avaliabl in Off Line folders.     - webDAV in sbs 2003 Hello all, We have a fresh installation of SBS 2003 premium. A w2k3 member server runs our public web sites (this is not the http://companyweb on the SBS box). We use host headers to identify the sites. On one of the web sites, I am trying to set up webDAV. I have enabled the webDAV extensions in IIS. I can browse to the site and the virtual directory without a problem. It uses Windows integrated authentication and that seems to work. When I try to add this as a web folder in "my network places",from a client machine, it asks for my username and password endlessly without ever allowing me to connect to the site.     - Exchange 16Gig Limit soon approaching I have a SBS 2k environment. My questions are about the exchange application, I know that there is a limitation of 16 gig of information total and that the *.edb and the *.stm files are combine to equal this amount. So what I currently have it a *.edb of 5.8 gigs and a *.stm of 7.6 for a total of approx 14 gigs. So I am not in critical mode just yet but I do have questions about reducing the file size or maybe moving them. I run the eseutil /d on a monthly basis to recapture wasted space and run daily backups. But I have noticed that the total amount of mail in mb listed in the Exchange System Mangager, ( the sum of all mailboxes ) is 3.6 gigs of mail. t This is the confusing part, since the Exchange System manager shows a cumlative total of all mailboxes of 3.6 gig, and the priv1.edb shows a total of 5.8 and the *.stm is 7.6 how can that be explained? Is there something I am missing in recapturing my space or some utility that will more accurately report information on my databases? All experience, suggestion, inquiries and solutions welcomed.     - Can I create a symbolic link in SBS when I move a folder? I have a shared folder on a SBS 2000 server that everyone maps to. I want to move that folder to a 2003 server. Is there a way I can create a symbolic link so when people try to go to the old share path it is autmoaticcly redirected to the new path?     - Exchange Info Store Corruption (Update) Hello, SBS2K. On March 3rd, I submitted a post about possible corruption in my Exchange database. Basically, I moved the database to a new SCSI drive I purchased and install. The move went well and the users had no problems with their mailboxes, but when I checked the backup log after the first backup, I noticed the following error: WARNING: Portions of "\Mailbox Store (HI-SERVER)" cannot be read. The backed up data is corrupt or incomplete. This file will not restore correctly. After some research and some outside help (thanks Dave), I discovered 474 errors. Also, ntbackup will not allow me to restore the database from the backup. When you look on support for error 474, you come up with the following articles: XADM: Event ID 474 Error Indicates a Hardware Failure http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;327334 XADM: Extensible Storage Engine Event IDs 474 and 477 Are Logged When You Try to Back Up the Information Store Database http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810411 Both of these articles eluded to a hardware problem with the drive. I called tech support for Maxtor and was told that one possibility is that I needed a twisted (if that is the correct term) cable. That said, I am going to purchase the cable. Until I can get the cable in and installed, I have moved the Exchange back to the original drive it was on. It is still corrupted according to the backup log, and I continue to log 474 errors. When I was reading the article, I was looking for the "State" line to say something to the effect of 'consistent' because that's what the article refers to. When I received 'State: Clean Shutdown', I didn't know what that meant, but I know that it doesn't sound corrupt to me. That said, where do I go from here? Should I begin following the other steps in the article? I haven't because I am not sure if the results from the first command tell me to not run any of the recovery options. The users can still access their mailboxes and nothing appears to be wrong at their end, but I cannot back up the databases and that is not a good thing. Also to note, if I go to the folder that houses the priv1.ebd file, I see log files which, according to their modified date, go all the way back to the day I originally installed the new disk and moved the database starting all this mess. I am not sure if that is relevant, but I figured I would mention it. If nothing works, I may have to call PSS (another result of Dave's help) which is not a problem, but I figure there may be a way around this that someone would know if I provided the correct information and enough of it. Is there a way to remove or reset all printers for all users on a
Terminal Server without going into each user logon?

We have just moved offices and the printers have all been moved. I
would like to clear all existing printers out and reset all users with
3 options option one as default. Two of the printers are currently
shared on workstations
