    - Moving SBS2000 to another machine I will be installing my SBS2000 again on a newer, faster machine, and would appreciate some advice on the specifics below or in general. 1. My original domain was set up as domain.co.uk for both internal and external use (e-mail etc). If I set up the new server with domain.local, would there be any issues regarding the existing e-mails (which I intend to EXMERGE export/import)? I will keep my Internet address as domain.co.uk. 2.     - Web Server Publishing Rule and IP Address Logging Dear All, We have a member server published to the internet via ISA with a webserver publishing rule. The problem or really an annoyance is that in the member servers logs all incomming IPs are those of the main SBS server and not the actual external IP accessing the site. We'd like to be able to see who is looking / using the site without having to cross reference the webserver log files with the proxy log file (I assume thats what I would have to do) and / or use a log anayliser. Is this an inevitability, or can I reconfigure ISA to acheive what I want? I run SBS here with a non-nat router config with mail services on one external IP and and the web listeners on another IP.     - For Jeff - SBS2K to new hardware Jeff, or anyone else for that matter - I have scoured this n'group and google, as suggested, for ideas/experience in how to move an existing SBS2K install to a new hardware platform. A number of articles I found cover bits of the whole process, and refer to other threads I cannot find, etc, etc. I would be extremely grateful if you could give me any "alternatives overview" on this process. It is purely a hardware upgrade requirement. I don't, however, want to have to re-create all the user accounts nor re-build exchange mailboxes etc, etc. I would love to just "ghost" the entire build from one platform to another but cannot obviously. If you have the time or can point me to an article elsewhere that gives this info, I would be most grateful. The aim, ultimately, is to have the new box ( 2 x Xeon processors etc, etc) being the SBS2K install with just Exchange running on it, and all file serving run from the old box re-installed fresh back on the domain as a new vanilla Win2K DC.     - Users cannot log into Outlook This problem keeps growing. I have now about 6 users (Win2K) that cannot log into Exchange. They can log into the Domain, but when they open Outlook they are asked to log in again. Their passwords don't work, not even the Domain administrator password will work. This started on Tuesday when I had a disk drive full problem on the SBS2K server, that caused Exchange to shut down. After I had recovered the disk space, I could never complete shutting down and restarting it thru services window it would hang every time, so I had to shut down and restart the server, on the 4th attempt it started.     - Exchange?? I will be setting up Exchange this weekend and I have a question on user names. The company already uses and outside ISP to host thier website and thier email. I will be using the POP3 Connector to grab that mail and bring it down to the Exchange. My question is: I will be setting up the usernames on the network with the First Initial, Last Name. The users current email address' are set up as firstname@domain.com. Do I have to change thier email address' to match what their login names will be? Or is their something in Exchange that "maps" that email to that username? Also, this company has a domain name with thier ISP. When i set up this domain controller this weekend, do i name the domain the same as thier outside domain name, or do i name it something different?     - removing exchange2k We have a windows 2k small biz network running exchange 2k with one member server (win2k). We recently implemented another exchange 2k onto our member server but unfortuntley it wasn't working that great so we have decided to remove it. What we had done was as follows. Installled exchange2k on the new win 2k member server moved the mailboxes from the original server onto the new server and created an ISA rule to have the mail routed onto the new server. (We had planned to stop the exchange services on the winSBS Server). We have since moeved mailboxes back but when the new win2k server isn't running we don't receive anymail.     - Windows update In our SBS2000 system there are about 8 workstations. I discovered recently that over 95% of an internet trafic is from Windows update related pages. There are over 3Gb of data transferred during period of 1 month (!!!!). All our workstations are set to automatic windows update. I cannot find any way of stopping the automatic update or reducing the amount of data which is transferred. II-nd problem When there is a new update availabe then some of the workstations (Win98) show the message suggesting to load the update. If we use the button 'POSTPONE" then the message should come again after one day. Unfortunately this does not work and the message is coming every few minutes Does any body knows how to solve such problems with windows update?     - Memory and Process Question. Sql Server is a process but I did not install. Hello all, A memory quandry I am in. Not sure if quandry is the right word. SBS2000, SP1. I received some errors in my health monitor, memory errors to be precise. I looked at my processes and noticed sqlservr.exe in my list of processes. I found this odd since I did not load SQL Server on this Server. Do other programs that I am using use sqlservr.exe? Using Symantec Corp Edition 8.1 and BackupExec 9.0. Have lots of RAM in this server, 1.5 gig to be precise. Errors include: Pages input/sec >5, Pages Reads/sec >5, Page Input/sec >5, Pages/sec >80, and they started when I ran last night's backup. Mem Usage on sqlservr.exe is about 50,000K. Is there a list somehwere of what services should not be running or are running and taking memory. Is there a way to simplify? (hopefully someone out there doesn't know this tip already) If you need to remember those darn screens, error messages, file lists, etc. as they flash buy - consider using that great product Snagit (no, I don't have shares in the company). You can - take a screenshot of a region or the entire screen/window. - automatically print it or send it to a file -or better still, to a catalog folder which is then fully browsable within the app (great for looking through your last 20 moves e.g. when setting up a biggie program such as BackupExec and - if you set it to 'Text Capture' mode, you can 'capture' a horribly long text string on screen and immediately convert it to editable text and store it in the Clipboard, so you can just paste it into e.g. your computer history databse. www.snagit.com (no, I REALLY don't have shares in this company, but I really love their very reasoanably priced product).     - Enterprise and SBS I have read that to migrate from Exchange 200 standard to Enterprise, you simply need to install Enterprise over the top of the standard edition, and then re-install service packs to the same level. I need to know if it's fine to do that on an SBS server. I'm sure you need to purchase CAL's because of the different licensing method on SBS, but is that the only other concern? (ie. Other than installing some Exchange CAL's, is the process exactly the same for SBS as say for a Windows 2000 server running Exchange 2000 standard?)     - File server & CAL's Ok, The following mistake was made due to partially poor planning and necessity. We required a replacement file server for our existing SBServer. What we originally planned was to install SBS on the new system and then migrate everything to it and then use it as our primary (retiring the old SBS). Well as you can imagine there were problems. I had not realized was that two SBServers could not exist on the same network, this has caused us considerable pain. The server will allow itself to exist but it can not be promoted to a secondary it can also not apparently allow more than 10 users to connect to it, this presents a major issue as we do have more than 10 people at any one time will need to connected to it. We have the correct number of CAL's for the existing SBS, but the new fileserver will not allow more than 10 to connect to it (It will also not allow us to add licenses as it is not a full-fledged SBS yet). I did find this article (305138) on the knowledge base but it applies to SP2, and not SP4 so I am unable to apply the hot fix. (Which I assume has been built into SP3/4 anyway) Suggestions?     - Finding Domain Controller I have a freshly set up sbs that I am still working the kinks out of. I keep having DC problems. In the event viewer of my xp clients its saying Could Not Find Domain Controller or Domain Controller Doesn't Exist. I have enabled netbios over tcp/ip and that didn't help. The strange thing is I am able to get to mapped drives, email, printers, etc but sometimes it prompts me for a username and password after I have logged in.     - Using SBS2K as an Email Host OK. I know how good all of you are on here, so here is the scenario. The agency I have just started with use to run a P2P networked which I have upgraded to SBS2K. Their email provider is based in CA (we are in FL) and continually go down. As of now, we use them as the POP3 and the local ISP as the SMTP. I would like to bring everything in-house and use the SBS as the email host for POP and SMTP and get rid of the internet mail side. Not being a "classically trainined" computer person (my masters is in Public Admin) I have an idea of how to do this but nothing clear in my head, and I don't want to lose it.     - Computer lockups Sorry for repost but still dont know what the deal is Still having problems , help. The past couple of days I am having a couple of xp and 2000 computers are experencing pauses during working. All these computers are CAD machies and during the course of the day while working in acad(as this is the most used program on the computer) they will be working and the cursor will lock up for 5-20 sec and then unfreeze, doing this at random throughtout the day.     - ISA server I have a client running SBS2k and ISA with two NICs in the server. The ISA work fine for everyone except for 1 or two sites. I have one user that must access a site and it fails throught the proxy server. What do I need to do to let this user have direct Internet access? Currently, if I turn off proxy and just point him to the internal address of the SBS system as default gateway, it doesn't work. I just want this one user to be able to bypass the ISA server.     - NNTP Newsfeed I have set up a peer newsfeed via Exchange system manager on SBS, and I actually tested it with this newsgroup. I input all details and in my public folder structure, Internet Newsgroups appears once the feed has been activated. It drills down the tree to the correct newsgroup but there is nothing in there and I get an ndr report in my inbox if I try and post anything to it. The only advice I've received so far was to throttle back the NIC in the PC to 100Mbs Half Duplex rather than auto detect, but this made no difference.     - Imaging SBS onto removable storage I was thinking about imaging an sbs server C: drive onto a DVD disk using ghost of something similar. I thought it would have be good to use something like an external DVD writer as I could use the same device on a number of sites and the only cost per site would be one DVD disk. The device I originally had in mind was an HP external DVD writer that connects via USB 2 or IEEE1394 - but then it occurred to me that to take the image I must be in DOS and USB, etc would not be available.     - Exchange Drive Size Problems Currently we have a partition on the server that houses out exchange server. This drive is 15gig in size. However I am now finding that after a weeks worth of logs the drive is filled up and exhange shuts down. I m wondering what is the easiest way to decrease the size of the exchange server folder? The backup is exhange aware so the logs are getting flushed. But there are only about 500 meg so it realy does not provide that much space to provide any sort of cushion. How can I solve this.     - Cal license floppy does not work with LS-120 drive When I try and add a 5 clent license pack for SBS 2000 I run it from the floppy as required but after the I agree screen I get a message stating that the driver is either write protected or damaged (of which it is neither) and that this disk cannot be used on a ls-120 drive.     - Restricting software client workstations can run? Hi, I've been asked an interesting question by one of my customers. How can I prevent client workstations connecting to SBS from running certain programs on them, the workstations are XP professional. Or to put it another way can I specify a list of programs that users CAN run and restrict all others. I would have thought I could do this through a global policy but I'm not sure how?     - Backup solutions, why not...? I gather that you guys recommend DLT tape solutions for=20 backup. Well, we need a new tape backup solution due to=20 the demise of Onstream. The problem is that I know what=20 my boss's reaction will be when I tell him the cost of a=20 DLT drive (=A3900 or more), it'll be short, rude, and=20 hazardous to my health. Why therefore do you guys not=20 recommend more amicably priced solutions such as: DAT, AIT, Travan, DDS. If someone could give me a reason for each why it is not=20 desirable, I would be really grateful. If one of them is=20 desirable, even better. Thanks in advance, Colin.     - SBS2000 CALs setup failed When I try to add licenses disk on my new SBS2000 server, after 1 minute I get the following message : setup.exe - Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000006). Click on OK to terminate the application. I have try with 3 different Client Access Disk, same problem. I have replace the floppy reader, same ploblem. Server is a Proliant ml350 and Floppy reader is NOT a LS- 120. Could you help me to registering and use this wonderfull product ? Tag: smtp not sending mail Tag: 120140

SBS 2000 SP1a, using dns not smart host.
The problem began with AOL and CS email not getting
through. Now no mail is getting through, external mail
remains in queue.
Installed SP1a this morning - no change. I tried
smtpreinstall.exe but the ehlo does not change.
