    - SBS 2003 and Mac OS9.2 We have been asked to set up a new network using SBS2003 with 9 PC's and 1 Apple Mac running OS9.2. We know absolutely sod all about Macs! Can anyone give us some detailed info on how to connect and configure the Mac or point us somewhere where we can get that kind of information.     - Outbound Mail Hi everyone, I just installed a 2003 small business server - including running the internet & email wizard - but I cannot send mail for some reason. I've tried using both DNS and a smarthost to route mail. I've tried my comcast email server (my ISP) and the mail server where I have email accounts because they host a website for me. Nothing seems to get mail out. Initially, I found files in the BadMail folder. I deleted those and tinkered with the SMTP connector some more. I'm not getting anything in the BadMail folder, but mail apparently is going nowhere. I see the message quickly leave the Outbox and I don't get any undeliverable messages. Where is the mail going?     - Default Group Memberships A new staff member at one of our sites has just rang me to enquire whether she really should be able to open anyone's mailbox! Apparently all she has to do in Outlook (2002) is go to Open/Other users folder, put in the name, and voila! she can see their mailbox! Now why should this be? No-one has given permission to anyone else, so I'm assuming wrong/modified Group relationships. So just what are the default group memberships for ordinary and power users?     - SBS 2000 Exchange upgradable to exchange 2003 ? Is it possible to upgrade the exchange component of SBS 2000 to Exchange 2003 ? I do not want to upgrade to SBS 03 due to user limits,has anyone tried this and/or know if it is even possible. Eventually All of the components (ISA, SQL, Exchange) will be upgraded. Kevin D.     - New SBS2003 premium install problem First of all, I realise this isn't the correct group for 2003 queries. So far, my ISP hasn't added the new one to the list. I am setting up a new IBM Dual CPU server. It's running on a RAID5 configuration with 2.5GB RAM. I have got past the windows setup bit, and it's allowed me to log on to windows and started the next phase of the install.     - Security question on DNS zone transfers In DNS settings for Forwarders, should zone transfers be allowed "to any server" or be limted to named servers only? If the latter, which other servers should be listed? Situation: SBS2000, two NICs, and using a dynamic DNS service (DNS2GO) to host Exchange e-mail and (gulp) web site.     - Replacing an old employees rights with a new employee username... We have a situation where our executive secretary has left the company and is being replaced by a new person within a week. Sse has access to many folders within the domain etc.. and some are pretty specific (as opposed to simply group access rights). We have a win2000 SBS server where her profile exists in our domain. We also have an NT 4.0 server (not in the domain). She has a profile on this machine as well with a lot of "file specific" rights to stuff on that particular server. Is there any easy way to convert all of her security rights over to the new user or do you basically have to go through everything and try to find all the instances where she is on the security list and replace herusername with the new username?     - Exchange back up ? Hi We are running sbs2003 - we are backing up with the software 'Tapeware'. We do a full backup ! Somebody mentioned that you may want to stop exchange to do a full backup? Does Exchange back up OK with out stopping it ? Has anybody had to do an Exchange restore, full or partial from a back up tape? Would be interested in procedure which has been tried and tested.     - VPN help HI, We are a small company and use a dial in to collect email - however we would like to use VPN through our broadband router ! Question: How do we get to our SBS through our Router using VPN ie. if the router IP is X.X.X.X and the SBS is Y.Y.Y.Y What address would you use in IE ? http:// ...??? to gain access to SBS.     - OWA Settings Is it possible to change the timeout for OWA on a SBS2003 server, it's just after 15 minutes approximatly it disconnects the user if they have not touched it.     - Emails bouncing for some clients Setup: SBS2000 using Exchange2000 and Outlook 2000. Service Pk1 installed, Exchange service Pk3 installed. Standard out of the box setup. Email uses SMTP to go and POP3 to come. 6 users on the system. Using Smarthost. Problem: Two users cannot receive emails from certain outside people....one happens to be the wife of one guy. I can send them all emails from my site which is a totally different domain. My emails to them arrive where they should in their Outlook Inboxes. However two cannot receive emails from two(that I know of) specific places. These emails are being bounced with the message to the postmaster saying "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, because the message was forwarded more than the maximum allowed times. This could indicate a mail loop."     - W2KSBS - Exchange Server Can anyone tell me if there is a way for administrator to view a clients inbox for instance from the server? One of our clients exchange server went down hard and Inow have back up but there are a couple of the users not receiving internal or external email now while the rest of the staff +20 are sending and receiving. According to the report I got the users affected by not receiving email can in fact send email. Any help or thoughts would greatly be appreciated.     - Application problem Hello guys, i installed office 2003 on my server then i uninstalled it and installed access 97. When i try to open up access 97 it gives me the follwoing msg Microsoft Access cant start because there is no license for it on this machine. Then i installed office 2003 leaving the access 97 installation but it still gives me the same msg when i trys to open up access 97. Any one knows whats going on ???     - Re-Post - Thoughts, Anyone??????? All, About year and half back, I brought a "white box" server from TigerDirect.com - Visioneer. A day passed the hardware warranty, one of the cpu's died. After some arguing with the saleperson and vision's tech support, they sent me a new cpu, and heatsink. During the install, the motherboard died. After I changed out all that, I had the server back up but then one of the stick of RAM wouldn't work with the new motherboard. Needless to say, I am buying a new server for my office. For my client's, I have only using DELL. PowerEdge 700's to be exact (had no problems and Dell's server support been great so far). What I would like to know from you all, is what approach would you take to replace one server with a completely new one. My thought is that I would rebuilt it with the same name, setup as the old server, shutdown the old server, replace with new server and do a restore of the new server from backup (I back up to an external usb pot harddrive). Old server config: Dual P3 1Ghz processors, two 80 gb hdd's in a software raid 1 mirror (Fastrack promise controller embedded), 1ghz RAM PC-133. New Server: Dell PowerEdge 700, P4 2.8 - 3.2 Processor, two scsi 73.4 HDD's, Raid 1 mirror - Hardware controller - PERC ???, 1 ghz RAM DDR400 Since the two server's hardware congfiguration is so different, I am not comfortable with the restore from backup. But If I did a restore, would I most like just have to install disk one do a repair of the install to add scsi driver, etc..... How would you guys go about this?     - User Login / Out Monitoring Hi Does anyone know if it is possible to do the following. I run a training centre with a SBS2000 server & 12 workstations all running win 2000. I have around 150 different students per week using the system all with thier own usernames etc. I would like to be able to create a list each week of username, date and time logged on.     - many e-mails in SMTP queue I have an SBS 2003 server which has been running fine. Today a large number of e-mails, thousands in fact, started appearing in the SMTP queue. They where all for postmaster@domainname.com and all from the same person, a samantha markey at orange. Virus scans are clear, there is no signs of the server being used as an open relay by spammers.     - Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0 on SBS 2000 Box Has anyone ever tried to install Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0 on a SBS 2000 box? Symantec does not recommend this installation type for the mere fact that the SBS 2000 box has so many different services running simultaneously. I would install the software on another machine, but I don't have any other dedicated workstations that could handle this type of service. Any suggestions or recommendations or if anyone has ever installed this software on a SBS 2000 box, what were the results? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.     - OTT. NDR shows server IP Hi People who send us emails form Yahoo are getting a NDR -=20 even though the email IS getting through. I am disturbed=20 to see the NDR actually shows our Exchange server IP=20 address - even though we use POP=A3 mailboxes. Is this=20 normal? Does not feel very secure to me.     - In-place upgrade from 4.5 - 2003, possible?? Hi, We are currently running SBS4.5 and want to upgrade to 2003 BUT without buying a new server(the current one is not old and with recent upgrades is powerful enough). Is it possible to do an in-place upgrade to SBS2003?? Or would we have to start from scratch (creating user ids computer accounts,etc, etc). I had an idea of temporarily installing sbs2000 on a PC, migrating all settings to there from the 4.5 server, then installing 2003 on the server and migrating the settings to it from the 2000 pc. Would that be possible? Can the Active Directory Migration Tool migrate from a 2000 to a 2003 setup?? It that too crazy an idea??     - Security Tab Missing Unusual problem - on our Windows 2000 SBS, the Security tab has disappeared (when we right-click the folder and select Properties) on every folder on the server. I'm guessing a Registry entry must have gone missing or been corrupted. Anyone any idea what entry controls this and how we put it back? Hope you can help.     - VPN SBS2003 We have recently installed SBS2003 standard edition on a new server. My problem is with VPN connections - ran the remote connection wizard, opened port 1723 on the router and set up the remote computer using disk created in SBS. When I attempt to connect I get a secure connection then it says checking password, after about 30 seconds I get error 721 saying remote computer is not responding.     - Exchange 2000 indexing - Wildcards ?? Just turned on indexing for our public folders under Exchange 2000 in our SBS2000 server. It has speeded up our in house data a great deal. From time to time we need to search for data with an unknown end string - thus we need the support of wildcard use.     - WAN connection Running SBS 2000 on a dell 600SC 192.168.16.1 255.255.255.0 Trying to hook up a remote office across a field to our main office server running sbs2000. Using a "virtual cable" wireless thing that someone else installed. The "Virtual Cable" requires only seeing one MAC address on the remote side. It works great when one computer is hooked up...and bogs WAY down when two or more are hooked up. (it seems to alternate "seeing" one computer at a time) Could I get some advise on how to set up a Router (or some other idea?) to connect the 5 computers and one networked printer in the remote office to the server?     - Creating a Mirror Hi All My current setup is a dell server with 3 36gb hard disks, single xeon processor and 1.5gb memory. I have purchased another 36gb HD and would like to mirror the first drive for fault tolerance. The first HD is set up as follows 8mb FAT partition called Utility(god knows where that came from!!) 8gb C drive where the OS is installed and the rest is the D drive which holds program files Whcih bits do I have to mirror? Just the C or do I create 2 mirrors of the C and D? Is there anything else I have to beware of when creating a mirror? Will I encounter any problems?     - VPN/Terminal Services I have the following environment: sbs 2000 with 2 extra w2k servers that are in TS Application mode. 6-7 remote sites currently VPN/TS into the two w2k servers. This setup has been in place for 2+ years and working fine. Last week, one of the remote sites called saying they could not connect to the Terminal Server. They said that they were receiving a "time-out" error message. The problem site uses Comcast cable for Internet access. There are 3 computers that simultaneously connect via vpn/ts to access their applications. Again, this has been up and running fine for 6 months at this particular site using a Comcast cable modem connected to a D-Link wirelessrouter.) I did the following trouble shooting: 1) I can connect one of the computers (all three pc's run XP professional) directly to the comcast cable modem and all works well. But as soon as I put the router back into the mix, the problem occurs. 2) I went out and purchased a new router (one that could handle multiple VPN connections) but again, this would not work. 3) I tested the original router at my home with multiple computer connections and the router worked fine. (I have a DSL conection). The next day, I brought the router back to the problem site thinking that maybe I missed something when I tested it the other day, but again, the router would not work. (I even set the router back to factor settting thinking that would resolve the problem...nope) Not sure why: a) the site was working fine for 6 months and then all of a sudden the users began having problems connecting using vpn/ts b) more importantly, why would the so called problem router work at my house but not at the problem site I've contacted Comcast, but they will not help out with VPN/TS problems. As long as I can connect to the Internet and one PC can connect via VPN/TS, then everything is working properly in Comcast's mind. I've also asked them if they changed any parameters with the service being provided to the remote location. They said no. I've contacted the folks from D-Link and they weren't much help. Does anyone have any suggestions or thoughts on what this problem might be? Also, should I post this on another newsgroup instead of the SBS newsgroup? Thank you, Thomas J.     - sbs fax question Hi all, From what I know sbs2k comes with the ms shared fax component. I believe there are four ways to send faxes with this service: 1. print driver 2. "send to" from the file menu 3. fax console 4. outlook I have not used this service before and I am curious if all 4 methods actually go through a printer driver or not? We have document tracking software (called equitrac) that gives us accounting information for all prints / faxes but it only is capable of tracking when something is printed (I believe).     - W2KSBS Exchange We had out exchange server go down. Now have back up thru using eseutil /p and last night ran eseutil /d on both priv1 and pub1. The problem I am having is two fold some users have emails showing in their inbox that when I goto delete get and error that says cannot delete..., this only applies to some emails as it allows the deletion of other emails. The second issue is that now some of the users are not receiving internal or external mail to their inbox. On the server there is an M: drive mapped with users within this. When I try to access individual users within this even logged on as administrator I can't access. Is there a way that as administrator I can access the individual users mail boxes and try to delete these messages? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.     - Draytek Router Howdi All, Hope this is an appropriate post. I have a router Draytek 2600. It has the ability to be remote logged. I enter the ip of the remote system to chat to the router and the udp port 514 and vola nothing.     - Firewall service Hi all, Lately I had to make some changes in TCP/IP configuration, actually only changing the DNS servers address for connections on my SBS (2000) server. After each change (there had to be 4 or 5, as far as I remember) the firewall service has been turned off. There was no question, not even information that this was going to happen. As a result, for the first time I made changes all my subnet was not able to send/receive email, as well as ssh connections to other (Linux driven) machines, no other ports (than www via proxy) available, so pretty few applications had a chance to run properly - for about 6 hours, so that's quite long. Now that I know about the issue I realize that each change in server's connection configuration needs firewall startting. The most confusing is the fact, that there's no information from the system itself about the action it takes. I had to find out and solve the problem myself. The question is: is that behaviour normal? Does the Firewall service really have to STOP? It could at least give me some info about it, not to mention about RESTARTING not STOPPING the service?     - New Server to replace old server - same name, etc All, About year and half back, I brought a "white box" server from TigerDirect.com - Visioneer. A day passed the hardware warranty, one of the cpu's died. After some arguing with the saleperson and vision's tech support, they sent me a new cpu, and heatsink. During the install, the motherboard died. After I changed out all that, I had the server back up but then one of the stick of RAM wouldn't work with the new motherboard. Needless to say, I am buying a new server for my office. For my client's, I have only using DELL. PowerEdge 700's to be exact (had no problems and Dell's server support been great so far). What I would like to know from you all, is what approach would you take to replace one server with a completely new one. My thought is that I would rebuilt it with the same name, setup as the old server, shutdown the old server, replace with new server and do a restore of the new server from backup (I back up to an external usb pot harddrive). Old server config: Dual P3 1Ghz processors, two 80 gb hdd's in a software raid 1 mirror (Fastrack promise controller embedded), 1ghz RAM PC-133. New Server: Dell PowerEdge 700, P4 2.8 - 3.2 Processor, two scsi 73.4 HDD's, Raid 1 mirror - Hardware controller - PERC ???, 1 ghz RAM DDR400 Since the two server's hardware congfiguration is so different, I am not comfortable with the restore from backup. But If I did a restore, would I most like just have to install disk one do a repair of the install to add scsi driver, etc..... How would you guys go about this?     - Group Policies - not working? Hi there, I am just starting to experiment with Group Policies for our small office. At the moment, we've got a totally open network, but this means that people abuse it a lot. To start testing, I have been advised to create a test user account to add to any policies I create, just so that I don't mess up anything. I created a few policies today, for the desktop (hide all icons, etc), and for Internet Explorer (to hide the tab menus, set the home page and search page). All looked well, and I added my testuser as a member of this groups. However, when I log into a spare PC, none of these policies have any affect at all! I have logged onto the PC as a local administrator and deleted all the user profiles, then logged back on as testuser, but still it doesn't do anything.
