 - Viewing shared faxes on XP Pro I have previously posted several requests for help on viewing shared faxes on XP Pro. I have been advised to see article 316418 on every occasion I have done all that is listed in 316418. I am able to pull up the fax console; but I am unable to view(open to view) the faxes that are listed. I can print them but I cannot view them. I get an hourglass for several seconds; but the viewer does not open. The program works properly except for the fact that I cannot view it. I can go to my server(SBS 2000) or any win98 2nd edition machine and view without any problem. Those machines use the Imaging for WIndows Preview program.  - Can send but not receive I had another posting over the weekend "Oh No..." this is an extension of those issues. Background: Machine had been hacked in a remote office - one user password stolen. Using that on Port25 to send thru the SBS server. Disabled user account and began cleaning machine. Following Susan and Jim's advice and the MS article they pointed to me - I was able to successfully clean the vs1 bad mail folder. it only had 7GB of messages (over 400,000 total in the last 30 days). After doing that I attempted to secure the machine by removing the check box "allow any computer to relay that authenticates...". per Jim's suggestion I also removed the IP's listed above. I noticed no mail was flowing in-bound. Reran the ICW - it replaced the Ip's that I removed other settings were left alone. But again - no inbound email was received. So now I go to my full-time job and attempt to send an email to the other domain. Does not bounce. Log in via VPN - it is not in my in-box. Nothing inbound shows up. Can send outbound just fine.  - Multiple 2003 SBS Hi, Is anybody running multiple small business server. My issue is that we need to run MS Exchange and MS SQL on 2 separate servers. The most cost effective way to purchase this is by buying 2 SBS packages. I know that this is not possible with SBS 4.5.  - Printing problem in TS on Win2k Server Hi there, I have a win2k box running as a terminal server, the problem is that when a user prints a document the document prints fine, however the document stays in the printer cue showing up as printed, and then it randomly prints again later in the day. does anyone have any ideas? other useful info is as follows: Server is win2k (standard configuration, adsl through a cisco router) Printer are HP 1200 (using M$ fix for printing through USB-Dot4) clients are a mix of Windows ME & XP Server is running SP4 with all latest patches. I have tried resetting the permissions on the spooler directory in in system32 etc, but this hasn't made any difference. I have turned of Bi-Directional support for the printer and am waiting to see if this has made a difference. I have checked all permissions (at all levels - user, group, accounts etc), all seem to be okay. I have searched extensivelly through both Google & Microsoft but not found anything yet.  - NTback up and tape drive mystery Hi All I am doing something seriously wrong but dont seem to be able to find help on any web site, so I have come to the experts. I have a SBS2000 server(test one) a P3 1.2Ghz 1GB of Ram, SP1a I have set up a test back up schedule using a sony 420 cdx ide tape drive. now the back ups run perfectly as scheduled the problem I have is when I reboot the server or go to restore the back up on another SBS2000 box the tapes always appear as unrecognised.  - IP config with DMZ Hi, I'm wondering whether I have NAT setup correctly as I just read an article that says I should point router NAT translation to the INTERNAL NIC of SBS2000. I also want to include a new server in the DMZ to handle mail using SpamLion, before mail is allowed to go to exchange. I have setup our network layout like this: internet <-> Cisco ADSL Router <-> SBSserver ext. NIC <-> SBS server int. NIC <-> Workstations. on the ADSL router I have an external IP in the 80.xxx.xxx.xxx range On the internal NIC of the ADSL router I configured 172.26.0.100 The external NIC of the SBS server has 172.26.0.99 The internal NIC of the SBS server has 192.168.16.2 All the workstations are in 192.168.16.xxx We run intrusion detection and firewall on the Cisco ADSL router as well. The first question is: - Should I NAT to the internal NIC of the SBS server, on the ADSL router? I have strange behaviour of the ISA server, that suspects rules being not applied.  - NEWBIE:- non-NAT and smtp query? Hi everyone, Following continuous problems with the SBS POP3 connector I am upgrading my ADSL connection to allow incoming SMTP mail and have my own mail server. Trouble is the smtp option is non-NAT and I am unsure about how to set it up. I just need email and Internet access for all clients. Previously I just had one IP address as the POP3 mail connection was NAT based. I have now been issued with four IP addresses by my ISP. I understand I need one for the SMTP mail server, but what do I do with the other three? Obviously without the protection of NAT I will need to use the ISA firewall which I do anyway. My router book and ISP helpfiles are all geared towards issuing each client with its own IP address in a standard non-sbs type network. All my 17 clients are issued addresses by the DHCP server in the range 10.0.0.1- upwards presumably this is unchanged. Is there a good step by step guide to setting it up?  - Urgent need more C: drive space I have Small Business Server 2000 and i have two partitions on the server not including M: drive(C: and E:). I have a 12GB c: partition and E: is the extended partition which is 56GB. The server has RAID 5 configuration. The problem is that i am desperatly running out of space on the C: drive. I have all of the programs printers and utilities installed on the C: drive. This is including Exchange 2000 and this is taking up a lot of space and it is forever increasing.  - EMail usage I need to give a client stats on his internet usage (very high ISDN phone bill is the reason). It must be divided into normal browsing and email traffic. The email traffic must pinpoint the users traffic as well. The report needs to give daily usage, which will then be totalled. Does SBS2K have such reporting built into it? I know years back i used Crystal reports 7 built in Exchange reports to do this. Alas i do not have it installed anymore and cannot find such reports in the latest CR.  - problems with groups and certain emails I have a serious problem on our SBS2000 system. When I send a normal email via a POP3account, with outlook 2002 everything works fine. But when I want to send a Task(mail) over the internet - even to the same person - this (task)mail is getting queued by the Exchange server. I have the same problem when I send mail to a group of internetmailadresses. When I look in the queuelist, I see on the propertiestab that there has been a problem with the DNS server. Looking if the DNS server is installed correctly, I get a positive result. When I invite a person (send a appointmentmail) over the internet, things work fine.  - OWA Login Problems I have a slight problem with Outlook Web Access that I have not come across before. I have a external member of staff who is trying to access his mail on our server. The problem is that when he enters the address to the site he is instantly confronted with "Error Access Denied", before he can even enter his user credentials. All the other employees who connect remotely are able to connect with no hassle. I have racked my brains on this one trying to see what it could be on his machine but all settings like disable pop-ups etc are set correctly. If anyone is able to help it would be much appreciated.  - Mail not fully shown in current view Hi (Sorry if this is to the wrong group) One of my users reported that her emails are not 'showing up'. If I look in her inbox then I can see the mail icon on the right hand side and nothing else!! Emails can be opened and read. If I change the view to say unread messages then it shows correctly. Some of her folders display OK, while others only show the mail icon. We are all patched up OK, and have a good AV; I am at a loss as I have never seen this before. Any ideas please?  - Way OT Anyone know of a way to recover a sheet within an excel spreadsheet??? There is no backup of the actual file, it has been resaved to its original file name, and I think I am out of luck. Client accidentally deleted a very important sheet from within their xls file, saved it, and now needs it back.  - log off, save files Has anyone implemented the winexit.scr from the 2k resource cd? I have a 40 or so XP client network of SBS2K and would like to use this to automatically logoff a user after 60min. Anything I need to look out for? The only catch I see at the moment is implementing keystokes (to emulate) closing/saving files before forcing the logoff for each user. This is where I need help...MS doesnt have much, (kb 31499) from my quick KB search, about registry entries to do this. Will autosave save the document if it hasnt been already saved once??? If so, ill keep quiet and just use that, if not, its lame and wont do what I really need it to do, which is save the document before forcing a logoff no matter what. I have looked into the third party products that do it, (sdpluspro, winoff) and they work awesome. I really dont want to worry about customized installs (or the fact that its a third party product) when I know its a simple registry entry on the client machine that I can push out through policies.  - Windows 98 Roaming Profile Problem Hi All, I am having a problem using windows 98 roaming profiles. Every so often when logging in the user is presented with the desktop of the default user, with the shortcuts to the home folders of the users who have logged in displayed on the desktop along with the company folder. Some of these shortcut are not able to be to removed and are shown as invalid in the properties. Click on the folder for the logged will restore the desktop. Any ideas?  - RRAS service fails to start /Event 20103 After reading and following the suggestions in Q299013 to get RRAS started on my SBS2000 server, I've started pulling out my (too sparse) hair. It is apparently unable to load iprtrmgr.dll, though the dll is in the right path, and all registry keys are per specs. The final recommendation in that article is to remove and reinstall TCP/IP. I'd just as soon pull out the rest of my hair! Have any of you out there come across and resolved this problem in a less-catastrophic way? I'm trying to set it up for VPN access. I'm running the server as a DC with Exchange 2000 Server, separate external and internal NIC's, an IDSL router from our ISP, and 9 workstations. What gets me is that I was running it successfully till a few months ago, and I'm not aware of anything happening at the server end (my client PC at home, at about that time, suffered a fried I/O dept resulting from a power spike).  - NTBackup stopped before completing I was using NTBackup (via the wizard) to back up the server to a hard drive (drives/files, exchange store, and Systat state). About half way through it stopped the backup, reporting no more space available, eventhough there was still 27GB free (and it had only use about 4GB out of an estimated 10GB of needed storage).  - Cumulative Patch for October 2003 froze SBS Hey everyone, I installed the Cumulative Patch for October 2003 on one of my servers, an SBS2000, SP1 (still have SP3 on Win2k.) Well, the server froze right after it was installed (via Windows Update.) I have not had a server freeze like this in a long time. Has anyone experienced the problem. First freeze in six months.  - 2 NIC Setup for SBS - Customer Reasons Why? I have quite a number of installations with SBS2000 now and after a disasterous first try in 2001, all since have been with the "recommended" two NIC solution (I also use a hardware firewall as well, ususally just a basic router with some port forwarding). Anyway, I recently encoutered a customer situation where I needed to "justify" why setup the SBS box as the "gateway" to the world, while I already had a "firewall"/router. "Why pass all that traffic through the server?" was the question I got from this person over and over. I did the security aspect, with NAT within a NAT. I did the proxy cache for speed aspect. I did the ISA Server allowing packet filtering and reporting. "What if people still needed to use the internet if the server goes down was another" - Now on that one I tried to keep a straight face and told him that I don't think that will be a problem, and if it is, keeping your people on the web is the least of your problems.... What I am asking from all of you "experts"...Is what would have been your top reasons (Customer reasons - not too technical now people...they have to understand it remember....)  - License Manager Hi! Another event log error. LicenseService Event ID" 202 I believe all my licenses are correct. The error window informs to search in the License Manager from Administrator Tools. When I try to do this, it says it's not available for SBS. I can go to the server on the Administrators Console and hit help (I think it was help), anyway it said we have 35 licenses which is correct. What license could it be referring to?  - Client ODBC and Enterprise Manager fail to connect. I am setting up a migration upgrade from SBS 4.5 to 2000. On our current server, I am running Win NT 4.0 and SQL Server 2000 without problems. On a seperate switch, I have set up a new server with SBS 2000 running SQL Server 2000 and cannot get a client computer to connect to the the SQL server database using Enterprise Manager. Enterprise Manager works fine on the server console. ODBC connections fail in the same manner giving an ODBC Timeout error. Server Connection is set to use TCP/IP on port 1433, clients are set to use TCP/IP and dynamic port acquisition. Client logs in to server without problems, and exchange works fine too.  - How to add a Domain management to a bunch of LAN-connected PCs ? It's been NT3.51-days since I was asked to bring a Domain server into an existing PC LAN, from scratch. My user has a couple dozen users and a LAN with a small-business sdsl internet connection. The company has just bought a SBS server and has asked me to do the setup. It's up as a generic SBS server right now. In my first test I was reminded that when a PC joins the domain and the user gets a domain login he gets an entire new generic desktop and credentials. All his investment in application setup and customization is gone. Is there some trick to import or retain the current setup for each user as I go around ? The users do use what ever version fo Office and Outlook that came with the PC when purchased. They do intend to move onto the exchange server shortly. I've een asked to make this a user PC lockdown site. How practical is this today ? Until now I've always worked in an engineering environemnt where the usered needed local control so I never tried it. The user machines have lots of obscure industry-specific applications installed on them, by hand.  - Why does Mapping ask for a password? Hi, one of my applications refers to F: in many places. I need to map F: to \\server\D$ which is where the application data now resides. I assume D$ is the root of D: on the server. When I attempt the map from Windows Explorer on my Win98 machines it asks for a password before allowing the map. I tried leaving it blank or putting in the one for the administrator. Neither works. Do I have to do something to each user to allow them to map to D$.  - Name resolution S.L.O.W. on TS pinging SBS2K Good afternoon NG, We have a Windows 2000 terminal server that works in conjunction with our SBS2K server as per best practice that this NG recommends. Has been working beautifully for ages then suddenly last week the users reported slowness getting into Exchange from Outlook and other such occurrences. Then an SQL application we have refused to connect. A bit of experimenting with the DSN setup for the SQL application showed that hardcoding the IP address of the SBS2K server fixed it. I thought "a-ha!" a name resolution problem. Sure enough a ping on the TS would take about 20 seconds but only if the user were logged in via remote desktop. On the console no prolem. Here is gets trickier. If the Administrator or anyone with membership of the Domain Admins group tries to resolve a name, also no problem regardless of whether they are on the console or on the remote desktop. All other workstations on the network are experiencing no problems with resolving a name This means it is all looking like a permissions problem on the TS. But I have no idea of where to look. Is it policies from the SBS2K box? File permissions on the TS? Permissions in DNS, WINS on the SBS2K box? Anybody got any clues? HELP! Karl in Melbourne, Australia Tag: service packs Tag: 134237

 - Windows 2000 SBS to Windows 2003 Server Migration - Success! Hi all, after many days of research, which all turned out to be worthwhile as we encountered each and every issue, we managed to do the migration from Windows 2000 SBS to Windows 2003 Server. Here is the plan we used, and all seemed to work perfectly: Step1. Prepare AD for migration 1. Run adprep on the Small Business Server 2000 dc to prep forest and domain for Windows Server 2003 http://support.microsoft.com/?id=278875 2. Change Security Policy to Enable Computer and User Accounts to be trusted for Delegation http://support.microsoft.com/?id=232070 Step2. Clean install Windows 2003 and promote Windows 2003 server to DC: 1. Install Windows 2003 server on the new server. 2. Run dcpromo. 3. Choose "Additional domain controller for an existing domain" option. 4. Enter network credentials to log on to SBS 2K server (typically administrator) 5. Domain name should match current domain name and shouldn't need to be changed 6. Directory services restore mode password is unique to each computer - you may enter any password you want here. 7. Once AD is complete, reboot new DC Step3. Make the new DC a global catalog server 1. Open AD Sites and Services 2. Expand Sites/Default First Site/Servers. 3. Select the new DC server and right click NTDS settings and select properties. 4. On the General tab put a check mark in the Global Catalog check box and then click OK. Step4. Transfer FSMO roles: 255504 Using Ntdsutil.exe to Seize or Transfer FSMO Roles to a the controller using the below procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=255504 Step5. Move DNS 1. Install DNS on new dc 2. Move DNS to new server using the below procedure: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;323383&Product=winsv r2003 Step6. Shut down old SBS server and remove from AD. 1. Open AD Users and Computers 2 .Expand your domain 3. Select Domain Controllers container 4. Select the old SBS 2K server object and delete it. I also noticed that at this point it will also listed in AD Sites and Services, you might need to remove it from there too. Step7. Change IP on new DC to match old server 1.  - Isa and Cisco Hi, I have recently built an sbs2000 box and have a new cisco 837 firewall/router/adsl modem. I had a Cisco cna configure the firewall/router and install cisco client vpn s/w on a client pc. When I try to connect to the server it would appear that ISA is NATing the connection and so the ip address expected by Cisco is not correct. Is there a way to stop Isa NAT'ing the connection. 2. Does anyone know what the sure fire disaster recovery software will work with SBS 2000 that uses hardware raid 5. I have heard Veritas works sometimes or Acronis , but not sure what to buy.  - Admin login Active directory for some reason i have rebooted my server and now it will not accept my admin password for the domain. it tells me i cant use any of the other passes or user names for the domain either. did not make any changes just rebooting it. tried safe mode and recovery but will not take any pas or username, could some one help me with a way to find out the pass or a way to change it. it will not let me just log into the computer i have to log into the domain, any help is greatly apriciated Jon Tag: service packs Tag: 134230

I have SBS 2000 install on Windows 2000 server, I have
installed the service pack for SBS 2000 but when ever
check window update page it always tells me I need to
install w2k service pack 4, which I cannot install. Is
there something in this set up which will prevent me from
updating w2k or do I actually need to install a W2K
service pack if I have the latest version of the SBS
service pack.

Which SBS sp version did you install?

sp1 or sp1a

You can also install windows 2000 service pack 4 directly onto sbs as well.

Does sp4 show as installed on the general tab of the properties of my
computer?

Does it list Service Pack 4 in the properties of My Computer?

There is now a batch file located at:

%systemroot%\$ntservicepackuninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.bat

You can run the batch file to uninstall the service pack if it exists.
