    - wrong amount of licenses in about All, Thanks in advance for any help. Installed SBS 2000 with 5 cal pack. Everything worked fine. However no one can log in. Looked in about to see how many license are in there it said -5 So got out a extra license disk, Comes up saying 15 licenses have been added. Check in about and it now says 10.     - SMTP Queue Keeps filling up Hi, Ive got a SBS2k Server with all the service packs on it, I have a problem with our SMTP server. We use SMTP to send via DNS instead of a smart host, but when I check the queue it is filled with thousands of messages from Mailer-Daemon@Zish.Kharkov.ua to which the subject is Virus intercepted. I'm constantly having to clean this queue throughout the day. Does anyone know of this as none of these e-mail are being sent out from the company.     - SMTPVS queue wont delete mail I have spent all day working on this and have so far got nowhere! The problem is that a user sent a 2.6MB file to over 260 recipients. The Exchange server seems to have freaked out because I dont believe a single one has been delivered and the failed emails are sending NDR's to the sender over and over again. The expiration timeout period of the Default SMTP Virtual Server is set to 4 hours. This email was sent about 30 hours ago and is still sending NDR's. I have attempted to delete the mail from the queue. If a queue lists 1 or more mail items for that domain, selecting freeze or delete turns it to 0. Most queued items are already set at 0. I have deleted the items in the \VS 1\queue folder but the items regenerate again! I have set all timeout periods to 1 minute and after 1 minute the items in the VS 1\Queue folder are removed but are still listed in the SMTPVS and still runs the Internet connection flat out and sends NDR's. A reboot will regenerate the VS 1\Queue folder just as it had originally, and again will slowly delete all items again. This has got me stumped. It seems nothing will remove the items from the queue, and the server is still tryint to send tomething even though it has expired and is not listed in the VS 1\Queue folder.     - Imminent upgrade to SBS2003 & new hardware Hello people, We are moving to a new building, and I thought I would take the opportunity to upgrade from SBS2000 to 2003. The boss has also volunteered to buy us a new machine for the server. I think it is going to be a similar spec, but with IDE instead of SCSI drives (more space, possibly not as fast). I am looking for some advice about how best to set-up and configure the new network, and how best to make use of the old server. I already have a copy of SBS 2003 which came with this year's Action Pack subscription (I have two copies of SBS 2000, one which we bought with the original server, and one from last year's Action Pack). However, I believe it is not possible to have two SBS machines connected on the same network. Is this correct? Obviously it would be useful to have both machines connected together to transfer data across (although I do have a couple of removable USB drives that I could use for this if necessary). Currently I have an old 486 machine that I am using as a web server (running Apache on Win98 with Web Forwarding from the SBS machine). This is very slow, but does the job (our main website is hosted externally at the ISP). My thought is to throw this away and perhaps use the old server for this instead. When I originallay set this up I was advised by people in this group that having a web server sitting in the SBS network was not a good idea from a security point of view, and instead I should have set it up in it's own 'DMZ'. I decided to take the risk and don't seem to have had any problems. Would the same considerations apply with SBS 2003? If I decide to use the old SBS box for the web server, it would seem a bit of a waste to have it sitting there just doing this one job. I would prefer to have it on the network and available for other things, possibly hosting a database. Might it be a good idea to have exchange running on this machine instead of the new server? Anyway, this will hopefully all be happening in a couple of weeks time (as soon as the boss signs the lease on the new building). This will only be my second SBS installation, and my first attempt at copying stuff across from one to another so any advance warning of any likely problems would be greatly appreciated.     - Win 98 and Internet connectivity issue I have a Windows 98 workstation that cannot get internet access unless the SBS2K server is already dialled up (ISDN). If the dial up connection is disconnected then the browser reports server cannot be found. As soon as the dial up is activated then the PC connects to the internet. Other PC's work fine. Any ideas?     - POP3 not working Hi All: we are running premium edition of SBS 2003. I cannot recive email from remote location. However I can ping the fqdn server name and I can ping ip address. When I click "Test Account Setting" in Out look 2003 I receive message under error tab "The specified server was found but there was not response from the server. Please verify the port and SSl information is correct. We do have ISA Server 2000 running. Is it possible that port 110 is closed by default and if so how do I open it. Please guide.     - Veritas Backup Exec. 99% complete. Failed A quick question, A user today shut the server down during a power outage. She forgot to acknowledge "please eject media" message in Backup Exec. The job was at 99% complete. The amount of data looks correct, though. Is the data ok on the tape? I can try a restore and have not done yet on this tape. The ominous "failed" message is troublesome.     - SBS2000 - Pop3 connector installation issue HI All, I have recently added exchange to my SBS2000 installation using the "typical" installation. Did the forest prep and then domain prep for the AD. I can't seem to find teh POP3 connector. I thought POP3 connector installed by default in SBS? Where have I gone wrong??     - Exchange 2000 Transport Event Sinks I have been trying to install a transport event sink in Exchange 2000 that will allow me to strip off attachements before they are processed through my office. I have followed the directions in the knowledge article and it doesnt work, even though the event sinks registers properly and I restart my Virtual SMTP server. Is this possible for SBS2000?     - User account Hope someone can help me. I found an article on how to go into a user's properties and under permissions deny the user permission to get to their mailbox. I did not want to disable to account. However, when I went in and disabled full control for the "self" the user's account is inaccessible within AD users and computers. It has a windows icon next to it and If I go to the properties it tells me that the information cannot be displayed. This Domain admin had permission on this account and I did not change any permission there, just the Self.     - Moving SBS 2000 to a different machine. I have a SBS 2000 (with 15 CALs) running on a machine that is runnning out of HD space. We plan to move it a different machine with bigger HD. Is this possible? Are there any gotchas that I should be aware of? I heard that CALs would look for the old NICs (from the original machine).     - Exchange licenses exceeding users I noticed a disturbing thing yesterday, When looking at my exchange 2003 server I noticed it was throwing up warnings about license usage exceeding license limits. I am using per server licenses and when I go into licensing uder admin tools I actually have 12 more CALS being used than I have users. And my current users are randomly being kicked off of the server. I then looked uder the exchange system manager and I have the correct number of mailboxes for the users, though I have 3 NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM mailboxes (SMTP, System Attendant and SystemMailbox) that I assume are some default creations. But taking these into account I still have more CALS out than mailboxes. Can anyone give me some idea as to what may or may not be going on?     - reaching the 50 user barrier on SBS 2000 We currently are running SBS 2000. Ourt business has grown substantially over the past year and we are approaching the 50 user limit on SBS. Because of this, we are looking at upgrading to SBS 2003 (75 users) OR full blown win 2003 server with Exchagne SQL server ISA etc... (very very pricy!!!) This morning as a test, I added 10 more 'test' users - which would put us beyond the 50 user limit just to see what would happen. I created Exchange mailboxes for each. I expected SBS to prevent me from adding the 51st user, but was pleasantly surprised when this was not the case. Where is the limit? Does it prevent 51 concurrent users only - meaning I could have 100 users in the AD but as long as only 50 are logged on at once I'm ok? If this is the case, then we are ok because we will not have all 50 users on at once. Please let me know where the SBS limitations are. Maybe we do not have to upgrade to 2003 SBS just yet...     - ISA stops requests to Extrnal Company Website (i think) We have SBS2000 with ISA in inegrated mode, since enabling two nic setup we are unable to Access our externally hosted website from the private/internal network [it has the same domain name!] The internal domain 'company.net' is the same as the web site 'www.company.net' The forward lookup A' record is there with the external IP addres but we get a User log on screen when attempting to acccess the external network.     - Changing DNS name of SERVER Our ISP has changed some settings at their end meaning that the name of our server is no longer treated as 'secure'. Unfortunately they forgot to tell their customers this! We need to therefore change the name. Under system properties, network indentification tab, it says that the ID of our computer cannot be changed because it is a domain controller. Also under Active Directory Users and Computers, Domain Controllers snap-in (help)it says that only a member of Domains Admin Group is allowed to make this change. I thought I had set one user up as such.. but then again! Please can somone explain (a) how to set one user up as a member of domain admins groups and (b) thereafter how to change the name of the server?     - Obscure license issue question I have a question that I hope someone might be able to help me with. A customer of mine has an SBS machine in his head office. This machine connects to the internet via a broadband router, and participates in SQL server replication from other machines that are installed in the customers other offices around the country. In a downstairs office of the same building, the customer runs another business. He wants to install another SBS machine, which will then replicate SQL server data out to another location, again via the Internet. My question is: can we do this using the same broadband router that the 'upstairs' machine uses? This would require that the two SBS machines are on the same IP network, but they would be configured to have different domains. In actual fact, once the data has been replicated out to another system via the internet, that system in turn will replicate back into the upstairs system. This is because data is collated in groups of offices, and each group is then passed back to the head office system, 'upstairs' in this scenario. My headache is whether I would be breaking the SBS licensing rules by having these machines physically connected. It appears that I can assign two different addresses to the LAN side of the broadband router, so I could have the two on separate IP networks (as long as we can figure out SQL replication using non-standard port numbers) but would this be enough to satisfy licensing? The last option is a second broadband connection and another router, but the customer is keen to avoid the running cost of another line. Your thoughts would be most appreciated. Mike. SafeWord make nifty two factor authentication that ties in with Windows 2003 Server. I have set it up on a test network but am having problems with ISA publishing the two factor authentication pages correctly. The user authenticates with their domain username, password and token but ISA displays: 403 Forbidden - The server denies the specified Uniform Resource Locator (URL).     - Why is my ISA SMTP filter not working? Hi , I am running SBS 2000 for my business. I have 10 users and use all the SBS2000 components except SQL (not installed). We use Exchange as SMTP e-mail server (no POP connector). I set up a number of SMTP filters to delete messages that contain the typical executables, exe, com, pif, scr etc. I was uncomfortable with the number of worms that were getting through as far as my anti-virus software (Trend). However, in spite of the filter I am still getting notification from Trend of e-mails that contain message.scr and message.pif with a virus (Netsky). I thought that the filter would be deleting these messages before they got to the anti-virus. I tried adding message.scr to the filters in addition to *.scr but these are still getting through.     - SBS 2000 Shared Fax and XP Hi all, I have a client running a SBS2000 network. All the clients are W2K Pro except for one which is WXP Pro. The XP Pro machine does not display all the Inbox faxes and the Sent Item faxes for the user. All other users on the W2K Pro PC's can see all the faxes that have been received and sent. The user on the XP Pro machine only sees the faxes she has sent and nothing else. Am I missing something in the configuration of the shared fax of the XP machine?     - Fax problem Hi One of the win xp pro clients has this problem that when fax is sent using shared fax then sometimes the address book does not appear.     - Duplicate computer name On a client's network I get a "duplicate computer name" error in system event log when running windows update on an XP workstation. The update wont run but just hangs the PC. Eventually the logon prompt comes up and the pc must be logged in again. I cannot see any duplicate names and cannot work out from the error data what the offending IP address is. Has anyone any ideas how to diagnose this prob?     - Dead mouse and keyboard Recently, for no reason my mouse on my server stopped working. It's PS/2 mouse. No amount of swapping mice, etc. worked. I plugged in a USB mouse rather than mess around. After a crash (lightning spike which the USB didn't stop), the keyboard is also not working. Same trials as mouse but no avail.     - Moving system to new hardware Hi Everyone, i was wondering if anyone had any experiences migrating to new hardware? My client was supplied with a very low spec machine which is struggling to keep pace with his requirements and wants to upgrade the box entirely. Am I right to think I won't have to rebuild the domain on the new server and re-create all the accounts and shares etc.? Since SBS won't allow a second DC I was wondering if there's an quick way of transferring the whole system across? I was thinking of using a disk clone/ghost tool but was afraid that it might not work due to GUID's and other such items that lurk in the background!     - 2nd dns zone www A record I have an SBS server with it's primary domain incorrect (company.com) with an A record for the external www server. That works fine. I have a second domain only for email which works fine. I need to add a 3rd domain that will recieve email but also have an external www server. I added a second DNS zone with the www A record, but there must be something I'm missing. I made the zone active directory aware as that seemed the best choice in the wizard. I can hit the external webpage from the SBS but not from external locations. Hopefully there's something simple I've missed Any help would be appreciated.     - Disabling access to a user's mailbox SBS 2000 - I'm trying to disable a user from getting to their mailbox and cannot find how to do this. MS knowledge base article #262399 I see where you can go into the Exchange general tab on the user's properties in active users and computers, click the permissions and remove the "Self" from the permissions, but I'm not sure if this is what I do and if it will effect access to the other things within active directory for this user.     - Add a new pop3 delivery Hi 1. I have a SBS 2000 server and is set up for one of my two domain names. Both domain names are pop3 enabled for delivery. I have the first one MAIN DOMAIN which is set up fine with only the email addresses I've speciifed being delivered eg public one called info@maindomain and the specified users, but unspecified -where do they go 2. The 2nd domain I've put in the 'user mailboxes' as a separte pop3 account. Does this the download all emails from that 2nd domain to the user you specify? Can emails be separated out? I think I've downloaded wrongly as a global and they 100 emails have all ended up in the system mailbox - oops are they lost 3. Can Exchange on SBS2000 only sent out emails as if from either domain or only from the @maindomai 4. Is there some good articles on how this stuff?     - Potential problems migrating from 4.5 to 2000 using different domain name I am currently running a small SBS 4.5 installation (about a dozen users) and am in the process of migrating to SBS 2000. My SBS 4.5 machine was called 'ntserver' and so I am taking the opportunity to call my new SBS machine something more appropriate (I'm also giving my domain a more appropriate name). I want to keep my 4.5 system running as long as possible during the migration and so was planning to migrate users in small batches. I've read in the Microsoft SBS 2000 Migration Upgrade White Paper that "...These steps assume you have the same domain name and IP address for the Small Business Server 2000 computer as for the Small Business Server 4.x computer. Domain name or IP address changes may cause additional configuration issues such as the inability to migrate mail from the Small Business Server 4.x computer."     - TS CAL Question Hi Who knows the exact difference between User TS CAL's and Device TS CAL's When i install 10 User TS CAL's, it think its clear that 10 different users can login at the same time. Another Szenario: I install only 1 Device TS Cal. I think one user can login from one machine.     - Group policy woe :( Dear all, I'm very new to the concept of group policy and I'm having a problem setting up a group policy for our users. The aim of the policy is to restrict the list of executable files to a prespecified list. Hopefully if this works out okay.. then we can expand the role of group policy within our company :) The problem is that the clients don't seem able to get hold of the policy. I know the group policy is correct because I created a test terminal server user and sure enough when you log on with that user the policy is applied.. It's the remote computers that are giving me a headache. I have a Test computer who is typical of the errors I get across the network. When I run "secedit /refreshpolicy user_policy /enforce" on that machine I obtain the following error in the Application Log: "Windows cannot access the registry information at \\EwcLtd.Local\sysvol\...." I tried "Start | Run" \\EwcLtd.Local\ [Return] and I got an Error message saying "The Network Path Not Found". Our XP machines, however, are able to access this resource.. but access to the subfolder sysvol still isn't available to XP. Indeed, the group policy doesn't work on the XP machine either. It's Interesting that if I take the raw IP address of the server and try and navigate to the inaccessible path stated in the event log I can get there fine. This would seem to point to a DNS problem.. However, manually inserting an entry for EWCLtd.Local in the hosts file of the machine doesn't have any effect. What would you guys suggest I try next?     - Server crashed. Have IDR from Veritas 9.1. Never used. Tips? One of those Saturday afternoons. On a client's server, lost the boot drive, 1 of 4 drives gone bad. SCSI drive gone bad, there is power to the drive but it does not spin. The other three drives are fine. I had SBS2k installed on this drive, fortunately, most of the data resides on the other drives. Exchange was on this drive, as well as ISA. Tried the same drive in another PC, and the same thing happens. Definitely a bad SCSI drive. The drive is two years old. My client's employees are out of the office for two days in a conference. I have time to bring this server up. This is a good thing. The backup ran fine Friday night. I updated Veritas' IDR, Intelligent Disaster Recovery bootable CD a week ago and am ready to use it. Already have a replacement scsi drive installed. Running Veritas Backup Exec 9.1, SBS 2000, SP4 on the Windows 2000 side, SP4 on the exchange side, Sp1 on the ISA side. I have about two days to bring this server up want to proceed in the most efficient way. And am curious if this IDR works or if you have experience with it. I was going to install Symantec's Enterprise Edition Ghost product this week, bad timing. What tips do you have on bringing this server up and running as fast as possible? I have some breathing room. The server has 2 Nics 1 for internal the other for the
ADSL router.

probably the binding order of the NICs.

in network properties, advanced, advanced settings, internal should top the
list.
