Brian,
This is not a DNS problem, it is a NetBIOS problem, i.e.,
WINS. The browse list is generated using NetBIOS names
(WINS) not Host names (DNS). When you are pingning the
names the server/workstations are using DNS to resolve
the name to the IP address.
Looking at the diagram, it looks like the workstations
are on a seperate subnet to the server. Have you recently
changed from having them all on the same subnet. The
router is probably blocking NetBIOS packets reaching the
server and so the workstations will not ba able to
contact the WINS service on the server. Get the
workstations onto the same subnet as the server - i.e.,
on the same switch, and it should be OK.
If that is not the case, then you need to chack that WINS
is running properly.
