On an SBS 2000 network, the users experience a delay of 65
secconds before the file they selected opens. After the
first file is opened, subsequent files open instantly. If
you do not access the network for about 30 mins, the delay
returns for the first file you open.

Put the nics of the XP's on anything but autosense.
Check the IPCONFIG /All on the clients.

Thanks Dana
It's a small network with SBS 2000 SP4, 16 clients ..8 xp
Pro SP1, 4 W2000 SP3 and 4 W98.I've asked the users for
more detailed info as the orriginal problem testing was
based on 1 XP pro PC (although all users were complaining)
The problems appear to be with opening office documents on
the server. word, excell and an access DB.
Also they are reporting that saving word documents causes
the Word window to loose a row of icons and take a very
long time until saving the changes.
I will set up the test of a 10mb file copy and let you
know tomorrow.

Thanks
Tim

Hello Tim,

My first inclination is to have you follow
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=814112, which might be our issue. However,
let's find out several things first.

1. Do Windows 98 experience this behavior as well, or only our XP and 2000
clients?
2. How does the file copy go from the server to the clients. (test both XP
and 98 if you can, and compare the results)

Keep us posted!

Thanks,

Dana Becker

Hi Dana
The file copy ( I used a 12mb file) worked perfectly but I
only got to test it on XP.I'll check on 98 and let you
know.
98 users do not have the same problem ..i.e. a 65 seccond
delay.

Cheers
Tim

Hi Dana
98 PC's don't experience the same delay
The data copy, a 12mb file, works fine on both XP and 98
PC's.

Cheers
Tim
