 - Pop Mail SBS2k Company has no web domain name as yet. Having trouble with our pop mail. Have installed Exchange 2000 but would like 5 users to use their own e-mail from their own ISP. Very new to SBS and know this is not the best way to do things but is only a temp solution until training on SBS has taken place in a few weeks time. Can someone please explain to me how i get mail into my exchange server from my ISP and out to a client who logs into a PC and then opens his outlook2k. A step by step guide would be fab..  - Firewall Sorry for such a stupid question but here goes anyway. I thought the point of having the firewall client installed on pc's connected to the SBS with ISA was as follows. 1 - So that any rules etc configured in ISA would be adhered to when a user accesed the outside world. 2 -I also thought that if they disabled the firewall client then their usage would not show in ISA logs (But now know this not to be the case, why is this can anyone explain for me).  - Remote Desktop Web Connection Is this by default using VPN? Working on a Windows 2003 Server and don't know what I am doing *yet*. Trying to figure out whether VPN is configured and being used. RAS is installed, but the IP is set to DHCP, and there is *not* a DHCP server on the network. I also used RDWC to access the server and did not see an active connection in the RAS settings.  - Helpful links give errors on SBS Console Hi, I have found a similar post to this from back in January but the outcome was not posted. I have an SBS 2000 Server (recently installed) and I'm having problems with the HMTL component of the SBS Console, specifically in the Backoffice Manager section where the Helpful Links are listed down the right hand side of the counter page. None of the links work (they give errors about files not being found) and the image at the bottom is missing. I've followed technet articles to reinstall the console and to manually replace the console but they have made no difference. I've tried the server with or without SP1a for SBS, still not luck.  - Client Setup Error This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------=_NextPart_000_000C_01C3EEFF.805C2720 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I'm getting an error when attempting to add a computer to the SBS = domain. The exact error is:=20 "Only part of a read process memory or write process memory request was = completed. It cannot launch IPD2000.exe /u username /p***." The computer is a brand new Emachines computer so it had to be upgraded = from XP Home to XP Pro. There were no problems during the upgrade. The = on site admin tried to add the machine to the domain prior to upgrading = from XP Home to Pro and that is where the error first appeared. = Unfortunately, the error still occurs after the upgrade. Just in case it's relevant, when I started there were 15 CALs and 15 = clients so I removed a client (from the SBS admin console) that was no = longer being used. The client computer that was removed is running = Windows 98 and I have done nothing to it yet (the network configuration = has NOT been modified). Unfortunately, I'm still receiving the error = above when running the Client Setup Disk. Question 1: What is causing this problem? Question 2: Can I add the computer to the domain manually? If so, is = there anything more that needs to be done other than just running the = Network Identification Wizard?  - Login Script hangs Have just installed SBS2000 and new clients running XP pro. All network connections and resources are fine, but each clients sbs_login_script.bat (which I have not edited at all) seems to hang and has to be closed manually. Why?? \\EASTERN-MAIL\Clients\Setup\SBSCLNT.exe /s EASTERN-MAI Is this something to do with remote installion services?? Note that netware services are also running on each client for simultaneous authentication on our Novell server - this script run without any problems - though only after the SBS login script has been manually closed.  - exchange password prompt and user share lockout after password change Hi Y'all, I have one user who is prompted for an exchange password and is locked out of his user share after a company wide password change.  - Access two separate and different domains/active directories with same work station Is there any way to connect work stations that are memebers on one domain/active directory to another domain, that has a different name and active directory? I have one server that is W2K SBS (allows only one domain) and the other server W2K Server (allows multiple domains - we have one!).  - Removing Router from Network? I'm writing about an SBS 2000 server which is having slow VPN connection speeds and am considering a hardware change. I have written about my problems earlier (VPN Sloooow). Although I received good feedback I haven't seen any improvement in speeds. I'd like any suggestions on whether the hardware change will improve the speed and how to implement the change. The current network is using a 192K SDSL connection. (When we originally set up the network we had ADSL on a Verizon line with no static IP. That's why we installed the router.) DSL WAN: 155.x.x.x DSL LAN: 216.x.x.111 Linksys WAN: 216.x.x.112 Linksys LAN: 192.168.16.99 SBS WAN: 192.168.16.1 SBS LAN: 192.168.1.2 I am considering removing the Linksys router, putting the SBS server on the 'net'. The Linksys is the BEFSX41. Given the slow speeds of the VPN we are currently having, I'm wondering if the router is causing the problems. The ISP tech said that this could be causing the problem. Questions: - Can anyone confirm or reject my suspicions about the router? Is it likely that removing it will speed up the VPN traffic? - Would the SBS server be safe with a public address? I'm feeling a bit cautious here. We have ISA.  - ISA removal from SBS2000 Hi there. Is it possible to later remove ISA server 2000 from a productive installation of SBS2000. The firewall should be swaped to a dedicated server for security reasons and i'd like to get rid of the ISA overhead on SBS. Also the "external" network card should be removed and the SBS2000 should furtheron act as a server in the internal network only. What is the best-practive and are there experiences?  - Backup Wizard SBS2003 my backups keep failing becuase the antivirus software does not allow access to certain folders within my program files. is there a way to manually exlcude these directories as the backup wizard wont allow me to as they are suposedly directories required to do a system restore (i assume because they are in the program files directory). possibly somewhere in the registry or something???  - Receiving mail Hi We have an SBS2000 connected by dial up to an ISP. All mail that is received is directed to my mail box. Until last week this was working fine. In preparation for getting a broadband connection I installed a second network card last week. Since then no mail has been coming through to my inbox. Exchange seems to be receiving it from the ISP and deleting the messages from the ISP server. There are no entries in the transaction message tracking centre. There are also no NDR's.  - SBS 2000 WAN and DNS Hi, I have the following SBS2000 setup; 2 sites connected by 2mb link, 15 hosts using 2k pro & XP Pro. site A has SBS server and DHCP superscope configured to serve site B clients and all works fine apart from site B hosts not dynamically registering with DNS. Site A no problem, i have imagined that if site A was updating DNS ok then site B should also. ROuters have DHCP forwading enabled (or DHCP) wouldnt work for site B, is there something i have missed? I now want to install SQL2k from CD2 but when i try to do so i am asked for a product key. Couple of quick questions if i may.  - SBS 2003 and POP3 Remote Access I have a couple of remote users that need to access their Exchange e-mail boxes stored on the SBS 2003 using their e-mail clients from outside the company They have Outlook 2003, which I have setup a POP3 e-mail account with the IP address of the SBS 2003 Serveras the POP3 & SMTP Server and checked the SPA and SSL boxes for Security communication, but I get an error message when sending a Test Message that "Server was not found" ..  - Mail question Our company has 5 pc's and two printers and a scanner. We use SBS2k and also exchange 2002. We are connected to the Interent via a BB modem which is connected to our second network card on the server. When users logon to the network and open their outlook they have to click send/receive in order to get their mail. There is also NO ''new mail has arrived'' notification when a user has his/her outlook opened and receives a new email message.  - Dial up Entry wont disconnect. I have the settings on my modem to disconnect after 1 min of inactivity. This however is never schived, as there always seems to be small packets of data that seem to be sent back and forth within 1 min. The traffic is very small and does not upset the network at all - the only problem being that a disconnect never occurs. This has been happeing since ugrading to SBS2K SP1a.  - Backup Exec error message related to disabling and then removing user Hi folks, I inherited an SBS a few days ago. I had to disable the previous tech's account, followed by an ex employee that had been lingering in the system. I'm accustomed to disabling accounts, but the following morning I recieved an error message in the backup log due to the mailboxes of the two people that I disabled. I Googled around and saw that a few people recommended deleting these accounts, which I did. The following morning I still had error messages relating to these two people. The message is in the exchange portion of the backup log and basically indicates that the mailboxes cannot be found. What is the correct way to go about this? Thanks!  - VPN works internaly but not external Just installed the linksys BEFSR41 router and upgraded firmware to newest version 1.04.17. It is being used to provide broadband service to one standalone PC on the 192.168.1.x LAN and a Microsoft SBS 2000 server which is serving as a vpn server (at 192.168.1.2). Both of these computers are plugged directly into the back of the router with no other pcs hooked up on that side of the network. I can establish a vpn connection from the standalone pc to the server so I know my message is getting passed through the router an into the server and that the server is configured correctly. However, when I attempt to use the internet side address of the router I can not establish a connection. I have tried enabling all three vpn protocols (IPSec Passthrough, PPPoE Passthrough & PPTP Passthrough), enabling the dmz with forwarding to my server (@ 192.168.1.2), port forwarding 1723 to 192.168.1.2 etc. I also tried from a dial up connection and another off site cable based pc just to make sure the problem was not due to being on the same portion of the network. Do you have any suggestions? I've read where protocol 47 needs to be opened up. Since I don't see anything that explicitly opens this up I'm assuming the vpn enable selections do that for me. Susan responded that sometimes it is just a choke (or something like that).  - Disabling Remote Desktop Connection on SBS ISA server Hi folks, I just inherited an SBS 2000 and it has been awhile since I supported ISA. I can access this server remotely using RDC from my home office to the public ip of the server. Also, I can VPN to the public ip of the server from my home office and then initialize RDC. My goal is to turn off the direct RDC (close 1389 port), and only have it available through a VPN. Can anyone tell me why there is a red x in the Backup Icon (Startup\Programs\Accessories\System Tools). It would seem to me that that should mean the Backup Program is not available, but it opens and seems to continue to make scheduled backups. I want to edit a backup job, but the "Load Selections" options on the toolbar is greyed out and I cannot see what jobs there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've never seen a red x on teh icon, just the red arrow. Depending on what
you want to edit you may have to create a new job. Does that help?
