I have sbs2k running just fine, I was using a linksys router BEFSR41
router...and life was good.

2 stable years into this solution, users started having internet connection
problems, intermediately Internet connection would drop, It seemed like
router was the device causing this, I replaced the unit with a newer version
of the same router (v3), every thing worked just fine with the exception of
the VPN in to the box, After calling Linksys support there seems to be an
issue with this newer version V3 unit...as not be "stable for VPN" go
figure newer version isn't as stable.

So in hopes of getting VPN back I am considering hooking the cable modem
directly to the external nic, I do not want to re-run ICW, and I am lost
after trying to hard code the IP address/ sub net, and gateway from the
router (dynamically received from the ISP to the router) on to the external
nic.

putting a public IP on anything but a router is BAD practice...dump Linksys
and go with another brand. Netopia will give you NO PROBLEMS! Then again,
it's not a $30 toy WalMart sells!
