Hi! I have a client who needs to take a laptop to a remote location and
connect to query databases 3x/week. I can connect remotely as
administrator--I do all the time.

I need the employee to connect into their own pc and run it as if they were
sitting there. Is that possible?

I have vpn open, I can connect but it doesn't do anything other than show
that I'm connnected. I can't view the network, etc.

Do I need a script? How do I do this?

Details:

SBS2k as pdc. Win2k server as member server (file and print serving). The
data is on the member server. The pdc merely handles AD and connections.

All ip's are manually assigned--10.0.0.#. The external nic is of the
192.168.#.# (can't remember). They have a router. ADSL connection. All
workstations running Win XP SP1 with u2date patches. Servers were patched
up to date as of Monday.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have the applications (MS
Office) loaded on either server.

I have been testing GoToMyPC to solve some similar user issues - when
creating a VPN connection is not feasible - like they are behind a firewall
at another company which blocks or does not allow VPN connections to be
established.

The boss at one site got stuck in Omaha Nebraska for an additional 3 days,
and did not have his laptop with him, and desparately wanted to get to his
email. I said wait 30 minutes. I downloaded and installed GoToMyPC on his
computer at the office and created a userid/password for it. I called him
back, told him to find a PC, open up his browser to the GotoMyPC werb site,
log in, and next thing he knew - he was viewing his computer screen thru the
web browser!

I have been very impressed with GoToMyPC. Best of all, it can be done from
virtually any PC that has an Internet connection (except for WebTV). I have
also been trial testing their corporate Desktop streaming solution for
technical support.

Check it out at ExpertCity.com

Just one more reason to upgrade to SBS2k3 - Remote Web Workplace combined
with XP clients is impressive - I couldn't imagine living without it :^)
. . . Oh, and if you ever have anyone "stuck" in Omaha who needs anything -
don't be afraid to ask :^)

Hi! OK.. I'm sure the company won't want another annual bill--as small as
it seems. What other choices do I have?

Their data is stored in a Access back_end file on the member server. They
run the apps from their workstation. Why, when the vpn connection is
established, do I not see the network?

Hi Marcia -

First - can you ping the server by name? by IP? Have you applied the reg
edits from 292822?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;292822

Second - what OS is the VPN client running? Is the remote client joined to
the domain? If Win9x and not joined to the domain, have you tried changing
the workgroup to match the AD domain name?
