Up till today this was working fine.

now the vpn clients can connect to the server, get email etc but cannot
connect to others on the network. They can ping the server ip but any other
internal ip is not found. This means they cannot connect to our application
server and run programs. Help!

I have the same problem, and my customer is getting pissed
off. What error do you get when trying to connect to a
share?

Hi Richard -

How are VPN clients getting IPs? Via DHCP or via a static pool? Have you
ran the registry edits in Q292822? Are VPN clients set to use default
gateway on remote network?

Anything in the events logs on the server or remote clients?

What OS is on the remote clients?

Any services not starting on the server?

Any patches applied recently to server?

Dear Merv

nothing in event logs that seems to relate

Remote clients W2000, Windows Me, Windows NT, windows XP are all affected in
the same way.

Services on server are all up and running - I rebooted when this first came
up to see if this fixed the problem

Last patch applied was on 14th November. As of end of last week no critical
patches were outstanding.

I can log on to the server and get full functionality - terminal services,
shares on the server, email etc but just cannot get beyond the server to the
rest of the network.

Any other lines of attack I can follow??

Richard

Hi Richard -

Are VPN Clients configured to use Default gateway on remote network? What
happens if you change RRAS to use DHCP to assign VPN clients IP addy's
instead of a static pool?

Re: remote vpn clients limited to server only by Richard

Chad

VPN clients are configured to use Default gateway on remote network.

I have changed RRAS to use DHCP instead of a static pool and everything now
works again :-)

While this is good news, this is not the route recommended on
smallbizserver.net or in KB320697 which both specify that you should use
static routes from the LAT (we were using 172.16.0.* quite happily).

1) should I be worried using addresses assigned by DHCP?
2) does the above solution help identify what has gone wrong or where I
should be looking and therefore get me back to the recommended set up?

Thanks in advance

Richard
