Hallo, NG,

I had to reinstall SBS completely. Now I want to restore the exchange data.
How do I do that? Thanks

Hi Susanne,

To restore your Exchange databases (if the server and domain names are the
same) you can:
1.Dismount the blank databases on the rebuilt system (assuming there is no
new mail in them)
2.Move everything in the MDBDATA folder to a backup folder
3.Move the old database files (priv1.edb priv1.stm pub1.edb and pub1.stm)
in to the empty MDBDATA folder
4.In Exchange System Manager - Right click on Mailbox Store and Public
folder store - Properties Database tab - and select 'This database can be
overwritten by a restore"
5.Attempt to mount the stores
6. If they mount then under Mailbox Store right click on Mailboxes and
select Run Clean Up Agent.
7. You should see all the users mailboxes with a red x on it
8. If you've recreated the User accounts in AD Users and Computers with out
a mailbox the right click on a red X'd mailbox and select 'Reconnect'
you'll see a list of accounts that do not have mailboxes
9.If the users do have mailboxes then you will need to go to AD Users and
Computers, right click on the users and select Exchange Tasks - go through
the wizard and select to Delete mailboxes. Once that is done you should be
able to do step 8.

Once everything is mounted and reconnected you should be able to access the
old email.

If the databases do not mount check the event logs - you may see that they
are inconsistent or are the wrong site and organization name... if they are
inconsistent try this article:
