    - second domain I created a second domain (xyz2.co.za) under recipient policies of exchange for another company within the group. Internally we can send email to the users in this new domain, but external mail forwarded to them does not get to them. Further to this their reply address reflects them on the "main" domain (xyz.co.za) originally on the server. Any ideas why this is happening?     - Files copied to server won't allow access to ANY user... I recently had a user copy some business critical files to his folder on the server. He then had his system fail (Power supply hit mother board). Now he's trying to access those files we have on the server with his laptop but he cannot do it from any other PC in the building. I can see them from the server as admin and from my laptop logged in as him, but cannot access them either. Has there been a link to the old machine that is preventing us from getting these? If you have open port 443, then you need to patch NOW. ------------------ Hello all~ With Brett?s permission, I wanted to take a brief moment to reach as many IIS 5.0 administrators as possible to warn them against not having the MS04-011 fix. Microsoft is currently seeing an increase in customers who are being hit by the exploits released within the past two weeks which creates a Denial of Service (DoS) against servers who are using SSL. It is important to note that this exploit does not impact your servers which are ONLY using HTTP (non-secure). With that said, I would like to personally ask all IIS administrators to take the time to test and install MS04-011. The critical update is located here: MS04-011 Information: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx Critical Update: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=0692C27E-F63A-414C-B3EB-D2342FBB6C00&displaylang=en Considerations: If you are using SSL on your IIS 5.0 servers and have not patched your systems you will be vulnerable to the DoS against exploits. The symptoms are easily recognized by the following in your System event viewer: Source: LsaSrv Event ID: 5000 Description: The security package Microsoft Unified Security Protocol Package generated an exception. The package is now disabled. The exception information is the data. The method to correct this problem is the following: a). Rebooting the server will recycle the SSL components and allow your site to resume service (but unpatched) b). Install MS04-011 which mitigates the exploit Current Investigations: Microsoft is currently investigating problems related to installations of IIS 5.0 and SSL with Client Certificates. In short, IIS 5.0 installations which use large Certificate Revocation Lists (CRL) might lead to client certificates failing. However, it is still recommended that you install the hotfix if at all possible to avoid not having important fixes above and beyond the SSL fix. Situations where Microsoft has seen Client Certificates fail: a). Certificate Trust List?s failures ? Resolve this by disabling use of CTL?s (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;216485) b). CA?s are getting restricted to no longer accept Client Certs ? No Documentation, but using the Certificates Snap-In and editing the Usage can mitigate - contact me if you need more details. c). CRL lookup problems: Occurs with large CRL files. Disable CRL Checking on your IIS 5.0 Server ((http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;295070) At this time, we have not currently released a update that addresses all of the issues which are listed in this mail. There are also other random issues which we have not confirmed as being related to MS04-011 but lack confirmation. It is suggested that you monitor the Technet security center at www.microsoft.com/technet/security to watch for updates to resolve these problems. In conclusion, most IIS installations will not be effected by the few considerations listed in this email. This is the reason we are requesting that all customers test and install MS04-011 on their Windows 2000 SP 2, 3, or 4 machines.     - Trend Micro client/server/messaging suite Hi Guys Just had the pleasure of installing Trend Micros ScanMail for Exchange Server (for the first time), on a brand new SBS2003 box. After a lot of shagging round trying to get the web management console working through SSL, which incidentally we gave up with in the end - but if anyone has any guidelines how one is suppose to tweak ISA to allow SSL to work through port 4343, I'm all ears. Anyway - I digress, we got the web management server up without SSL and proceeded to install the ScanMail component. After tweaking the browser to bypass the local machine it eventually installed the two components and for all intensive purposes, appears to be working. But,. the weird thing was the install didn't appear to finish - gracefully (Don't yah just luv that word). The Trend web management install page was just left in a hung state? The ScanMail monitor was up and running and all the program groups relating to ScanMail appear to work. Had to kill web management through task manager. It stated it was waiting for a prompt from me - but there were no open windows anywhere to be seen - hidden or otherwise. Cranking up the Trend web Management server again, and selecting Scanmail for Exchange - It seems to think the product hadn't been installed.     - OWA Views (remove the preview pane globally????) I have several users that I want to have OWA on a SBS2003 machine. I set it up & it works fine. However, the default is to have the preview pane to the right for the highlighted message. I want this to go away for all users.     - C/S/M SMB and port allocations? Hello We have just installed C/S/M SMB but we got into a little muddle with the port allocations during the start of the installation so to try to avoid further problems we stuck with port 80 for the HTTP server port and 8080 for the proxy port, and the IIS default web site rather than the virtual one ... how bad is all that?? This is with SBS 2000. We have not seen any Internet connection problems so far... have seen postings saying that the use of the IIS default web server can cause Internet connectivity problems...is this only with Windows 2003? I was not clear how we would change the 80 and 8080? Both have to be changed before the C/S/M SMB installation? How? Are other activities affected by these changes?     - Security to my PC connecting through VPN to a customer network I'm about to create a VPN connection to a customer through the internet. We have are own domain and a firewall. When connecting through VPN I will be logging on to the customers domain and a had few questions about security on my PC and the Network Domain that I will be logging on from. When connected to the customer I will be getting an IP address from the customers DHCP server I will create the connection in Network connections --> connect to a network at my work place -- Virtual Private Network connection. After entering the ip address to the server. I will put a user name and password and check the box in properties include windows login domain. Finally enter the domain, user and password that the customer gave me. After all this I will hit the connect button 1. When I connect to that customer will they have access to my files on my hard drive 2. Will they have access to my SQL Server 3. Will they be able to have access to other computers on my network 4. Lets say in TCP/IP I unchecked use default gateway on remote network. Would the above answers be different. I know by doing this I still have access to printers and network shares on my own network!     - Fax tif problem Hi I have setup incoming faxes. These appear as tifs to the users. The problem is that most client pcs have more then one graphic app installed on them over time and many of these apps do no like this particular tif format.     - Upgrading Windows 2003 Std to SBS 2003 Hi I have been trying to upgrade a Windows 2003 Std DC (upgraded from Windows NT 4.0 DC) to SBS 2003 but whenever the application part starts, setup will just terminate. Retrying things dont seem to help at all as it will just terminate at the same point. It appears that it is terminating at the point when Exchange setup is just starting up.     - FTP post-install - any repercussions Hi Just went to Windows Components add/rmv and ticked FTP (IIS) and installed. When you do this, it asks about Terminal Services mode (left as Remote) and the words 'IIS installing' blah-blah flash across the screen. Any idea if this means I have to run the IIS Lockdown thing again? I'm not too sure how you tell if this is active or not.     - SBS Setup Fatal error installing POP3 Connectivity Hi, I have a bad head ache! I have spent weeks trying to re- install my SBS 2000. It's up and running now, with one thing left to do; Install the POP3 connectivity. After finding loads of documentation, and reading through each step I have located the problem.... POP3 Connector is not installed. Si I use the SBS Setup wizard and try installing just the POP3 connector, and I get a fatal error. I don't know if this is due to a faulty CD or a problem with the install. I dont get any interesting error messages or help from the SBS setup wizard other than a nasty cross to let me know it failed, and the message 'POP3 Install failed' Can anyone please help me!!! Hello I was in the middle of creating the Officescan exclusion list (C/S/M SMB - SBS 2000) when I find that it appears that someone moved part of Exchange to the D: drive - there is a folder called d:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mbddat NB NB the name is mbddata not mdbdata as it ought to be ... nothing is obviuosly wrong with the email but what does this mean?! In this folder there are following files several E000 etc.log type files priv1.edb priv1.stm pub1.edb pub1.stm res1.log res2.log There is a correctly named mdbdata folder on the c:\drive.     - C/S/M SMB email notification?? Hello We have just installed C/S/M SMB version. It seemed to go OK except that I cannot get email notification of virus scan for either Offiecscan or Scanmail ... With Scanmail - I have sent an email to an address held on the server with the eicar.com attachment but I do not get an email notification. The email should be sent to Scanmail Administrator. Presumably this is the same as the Window 2000nAdministrator? I have set up a contact so that Administrator email should be sent to my own email address. I see in the user guide "Administrator;Joe". Can Joe be an email address? Exactly what is Joe an example of? I seem to remember that under C/S/M Enterprise it was possible to "test" the notification? Is this possible under the SMB version? Under Officescan notification I have added my email address but no email comes when say I try to download eicar.com to the server...     - System DSN Odbc only works for admin accounts. Group policy? situation1, server 1 SBS2000,access data base. Server2 iis, running asp page that connects to access data using ODBC. I am using a system DSN odbc connection. The page works wonderfull as long as I am loged into server 2 as ADMIN. if I log off web site still runs but get a data error on asp page, cannot connect. Log on as standard user on Server2 and web page still does not work, Standard user can see the Dataconnection in SystemDSN, but when you goto configer and try to compact database it will tell you connection is not vaild. Situation 2, same machines as above. Server1 sbs2000, sql2000, running sql reporting services. Have built a dataconnection in report services using odbc to access data base that is also on server1, built report that pulls data over the odbc connection. This works well when signed on as administrator, I can be signed on as administrator on any machine in the network and goto http:/server1/reports and run the report. Problem is that none of my users can run this report, they can pull up the website, server1/reports and can see the report but when the report runs they get errors, data connection not found. I think the above problems are interelated, as standard users cant use the odbc connection. seams that Server2 cant use the odbc even as a system connection and needs the admin signed on.     - SMB Signing question, SBS2k Is the SMB signing issue with XP PRO sp1 and SBS2k still an issue? I thought I had the SMB issue fixed until this week. At a client's site, XP Pro PCs with SP1 were working great with SBS2k. Until yesterday, several users complained that copying file to the server was now extremely slow. I had an open issue with MS and had two patches they gave me, 825760, 826722, that resolved some of my Office 2000 issues with SBS2k/Win2k SP4. And copies were fast and Word was crashing less often. Now, the copying is slow again. I went searching, found KB 329170. But 825760 and 826722 have later file dates than 329170. Yesterday, It would take 20 seconds to copy 200k. Not even a megabyte. But only from XP Pro PCS. Win2k PCs were fine. I tried the usual things prior to making the SMB change: 1)checked for spyware, none. Used adaware, Spybot, and Spysweeper 2)checked for viruses - none found. Definitions are the latest. 3)checked for any odd startup files using msconfig 4 )sp1 installed 5)all critical patches installed 6)server is virus free 7)server event viewer is clear of errors 8)hard coded the speed of the NIC but this did not make a difference, Actually, when I hard coded the NICs at 100/full or 100/half, the copying was worse 9)Verified in the advanced settings of my network were ok 10)DNS settings were correct in ipconfig /all. I ended up doing the following. But why of all a sudden was this necessary? The following resolved the problem, solution from Microsoft. I did this first. WORKAROUND To work around this problem, use Group Policy settings to turn off SMB signing. To do so, set the Default Domain Controller policy settings to Disabled: Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Active Directory Users and Computers. Right-click the Domain Controllers organizational unit, and then click Properties. Click the Group Policies tab. Click Default Domain Controllers Policy, and then click Edit. Go to the following location: Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options If any of the following policy settings are set to Enabled, double click the setting, click to select the Define this policy setting check box, click Disabled, and then click OK. NOTE: By default, only one setting is set to Enabled. Digitally sign client communication (always) Digitally sign client communication (when possible) Digitally sign server communication (always) Digitally sign server communication (when possible) I looked at my LANMANSERVER and LANMANWORKSTATION registry settings and enablesecuritysignature and requiresecuritysignature are both 0 for all. Which they should be after making the SBS server change. I did this second. Also, in DNS, changed "allow secure updates only" to "allow dynamic updates." I restarted the server twice and all workstations once. What happened? The copies are now fast like they were before. I wonder if the last set of critical updates made things worse?     - Name Resolution and Win98 Clients What name resolution does SBS2K use? How should Win98 clients be configured for resolve names correctly? I have just experienced the following at a client with a mix of win98, 2K and XP clients on a sbs2k network: The Win98 clients have "suddenly" developed a name resolution issue. This is seen in Outlook prompting to be logged and Internet access failures. Not even internal names would resolve on any of the Win98 clients. Eventually I configured HOSTS and LMHOSTS files on the Win98 clients to get them to work correctly and resolve names. These clients were initially all manually configured and not done with client setup disks a long while back. Everything was set as dynamic. What I did was a work around but I do not believe it should be how things are done. About 6x pc's needed this method of configuring. In a larger network this could be very time consuming.     - Can't browse My Network Places from the server.... As far as I can remember, the only thing that's changed on this SBS 2000 network was the introduction of 2 new XP Pro clients. All the other clients are Win2K Pro. However, when I try to browse the network, I don't see anyone. Even when I try to go to Start, Run, then type the client's URL, I can't connect.     - WINDOWS 2003 backup I am having same issue I see others have with Windows 2003 backup. Neither the new shell in server management that sets up a daily backup nor setting up a daily backup as a job using the regular NT backup program work. Unless I put in a completely blank tape the backup will not run from the scheduler. Works perfectly when done manually. The server management backup doesn't seem to have any options to set overwrite an existing backup (or any other normal settings u may want to set like compression). I have setup the NT backup to overwrite existing backups but the tape will not mount. Have tried freeing the media (i.e. erasing the tape), but that moves the drive to "free media", and still will not do the tape unless done manually. I also notice that when doing tape manually, the software asks for confirmation that you want to replace existing backup even though you have checked off overwrite in the wizard. This does not seem to be a hardware issue. I've installed the patch for the Travan drive that came with the spanking new Dell Server preloaded with SBS 2003. The software still shows tape drives that are not on the system, e.g. miniQIC, EVIC, etc. It is amazing to me that not only did Dell not load the patch, they insisted I contact Microsoft myself to get it, on an OEM server preloaded with the OS. And they must have done extensive testing on the backup huh? Any help from anyone who has actually figured out the solution for this (other than buying better backup software than Microsoft seems to be able to manage to produce), would be deeply appreciated..     - VPN Access to SBS2000 from overseas Customer set up on SBS 2000, CEO travels a lot so set up VPN on his laptop to get into the server for mail, shared files, etc. All works as designed. He is now in Costa Rica, and has high speed internet access available at his condo but when firing the VPN (plain MS client) it hangs while verifying the userid/password, and says he gets no error message back. He also claims that he was in a remote section of the country a few days ago and was able to use dial-up (not sure to what number) and get access, albeit very slow of course. My questions: 1. Does SBS remote access need to be configured to allow a user in a foreign country access? 2. If so, was his dial-in experience most likely due to dialing up a US phone number (again, not sure what he did dial)? 3. If 1 and 2 are 'no', what should I try? 4.     - Changed password at ISP, now POP3 Connector Event ID 4017 and no mail I changed the password for our virtual catch-all mail box at our ISP. I changed nothing in SBS2000. Now I am getting POP3 Connector event ID error messages; 12050 & 12052, information event ID 4017 and no mail. I went back out to our ISP's website and changed the password back to the original and voila!, mail has arrived, no event ID messages!     - Server BSOD!!! Twice this week. Hi My W2KSBS server (all patched up)has crashed twice this week. BSOD stop error (0x0000001e, 0x804939cd, 0x00000001, 0x00000007) Address 804939CD at 80400000 The first time it fried the IS, the second time was OK, but it is very inconvenient and the users are getting really upset. I do not get any errors in any logs but a message saying the time the server shutdown unexpectedly, and that a dump ws not saved. I have run some initial H/W diags without result.     - Send As Hi I am trying to set-up a send as on SBS2003. I have a domain hosted by an ISP that i collect from using the POP connector and routing rules, that works OK. However i want certain users to be able to send out as other addresses. For example user1@mydomain.com wants permission to send as accounts@mydomain.com, no problem i thought a quick google and knowledge base 327000 later and it still doesn't work. As per the KB i have added the new account to AD and given exsisting accounts send as permissions, however i get a you do not have permision error. A couple of questions therfore I have added the new account to AD as per the KB article but it is not and accout in Exchange and the KB does not mention adding this, should i Also the exsisting users are set-up as users in server management but do not appear in AD, is this normal Assuming i get these send as accounts working i have to set-up a load of 'dummy' users, how do i avoid these being a security risk?
