I don't see any settings in Group Policy for securing Outlook.     - STORE.EXE constantly running Hello, STORE.EXE is constantly running on my server and sucking up all my HD space with something??? I don't see any email messages coming in or out. I did notice 2 days ago that I received about 4500+ NDR's from email trying to go out but I don't know where they came from. This raised a flag as to the possibility of my server being used as a spam relay but that has not panned out, at least not that I can see. I have run 2 different virus scans with 2 different scanners and come up empty. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be causing this and what I can do about it.     - Connecting outlook to exchange Hi I am having great problems creating an account for connecting to a mailbox on our Exchange Server with in Outlook 2002. There is currently a POP3 account set up as the default Profile. I have tried to set up a new Profile under "email Account" in outlook and when i select "Exchange Server" And enter the Exchange server name and the users username and click next the following error message: "Outlook could not log on. Check to make sure you are connected to the network and are using the proper server and mailbox name. The microsoft Exchange Address Book was unable to log onto the Microsoft Exchange Server computer. Contact your system administrator if the problem persists." After this i tried to delete all of the profiles on the clients outlook by going to "Mail" in the Control Panel". The network connection between the client and server are fine.     - VPN SBS2K to SBS2K3 We have a LAN in Denver with SBS2K, and a LAN in Phoenix with SBS2K3. Both have DSL with Static IP. Phoenix is setup totally stock, and Denver is behind a Cisco Pix501 firewall. We can VPN for Phx to Den easily, but are unable to VPN from Den to Phx. I've been able to VPN to Phx from every machine I've tried that isn't on the Denver LAN, so I suspect is has something to do with the the Cisco Firewall. Unfortunately I don't have much confidence in the company that set up our firewall. The guy who did the work is gone and the new guy seems lost. He suggested a tunnel which would require purchasing another Cisco 501 for Phx. Is a tunnel possible without the new piece of equipment? Is it possible to VPN from our Den LAN to our Phx LAN without a tunnel? I'll paste the log file to the end of the message.     - help - corrupt DHCP? I am getting dhcpserver event id's 1010, 1014 and 1016. From reading various posts, while my system is working, this indicates I may have a corrupt dhcp/wins I could do with some help in how to correct this. My current range is 192.0.0.1 to 192.0.0.254 and is set up as follows: a) I have exclusions set up for: 192.0.0.1 to 192.0.0.10 for various servers and switches 192.0.0.245 to 192.0.0.254 for some barcoding equipment a number of relatively random numbers assigned to printers b) I have reservations on 3 ip addresses for printers c) Finally 1 server which was previously assigned an address by dhcp has had its address fixed in its set up but this address is not yet added to the excluded or reserved lists. My current proposed course of action is to stop dhcp and then delete %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\dhcp.mdb and then restart dhcp. Can anyone advise if this is ok?     - SBS2K Backup/Reconfigure Drives/Restor We have an SBS2K installation where the C: drive is only 4gb and we are running out of space frequently. The system has 3 18gb SCSI drives configured as follows using Disk Manager. C: is 4gb mirrored on Disk0 & Disk1. D: is 14gb Raid-5 on Disk0, Disk1, and Disk2. Our original thought was that this would be a safe and well performing configuration. Eventually our Data storage requirement outgrew the 14gb D drive, so I installed 3 large IDE drives arranged in a Raid-5 where all the user and company files now reside. My hope is to complete a full backup of C: and D:, then reconfigure the drives using Recover Disks, and restore. Everything backedup on C: will resore to C: and the same on D:, Its just that they will different sizes and probably different raid configurations. My questions are: Will the restored windows system recognize the change and load properly? Will the shares be OK? Will SQL and Exchange server be OK? Do you have any suggestions for configuration?     - Creating share on new volume Hi all, I would like to make our Access XP database available on a seperate volume from the C Drive. I've created a new volume (Drive E) which is a Default share. I would like to put the database alone in this partition but can't locate it from the client computers. I can locate it if I put it in the company share on the C: Drive - \\ServerName\CompanySharedFolder\Database but how can I access \\ServerName\DriveE\Database ? I tried creating a new share on Drive E with max share permissions & full control for all users but I can't locate a shortcut to it from the client desktops. Any help appreciated.     - ISA restrict Web Sites??? Hi, I have a SBS2K server with 35 windows 2K client machines . I have a slight problem with specific web pages in the company. Some of the days work at our company is reducing due to users playing on games at http://www.miniclip.com to which is reducing the amount of work being produced in the day. I am having trouble finding out if ISA server can restrict access to these sites, I have looked on the web searching through google and all I am getting is to purchase software for the job. Does anyone know of anyway I can do this as this is becoming a potential danger to the amount of work done throughout the day.     - Event Viewer disappearing act We recently migrated from our old SBS2000 box to a new one. We had to re-join all the Windows 2000 Pro client to the new SBS (DC) due to the SSID issue. A client is running Windows 2000 Server (non-DC) and we have noticed that his Event Viewer contents are dissappearing. When he click on the Application Log, for instance, the header says 1,279 item(s), but nothing is displayed. This is intermittent, as when he click away from it and then back onto it, then it comes back again. Surely something very weird but very hard to pinpoint!     - Not able to browse the Internet overseas? I have a customer that is having a problem with a Notebook that they travel with. The Notebook is setup to connect to a SBS 2000 server but occasionally it is brought overseas to connect to the Internet. I checked and they are receiving a valid IP address, Default Gateway and DNS server(s). In order to enable browsing I had then uncheck the Proxy Server in the Lan Settings of IE. The bypass Proxy Server for Local Address was checked as I thought this would allow for Browsing if there wasn't a Proxy. Any idea why we needed to make this change and is this standard operating?     - exchange queues and bad mail Because I keep getting these so called microsoft security updates I end up with loads of mail in the SMTP queue, sometimes it prevents mail from going out. If i delete them they seem to still take ages to clear? Is it safe to go into the actual directory and delete then out of there or does it have to be done via the program? can i do the same witht he bad mail section?     - Group Policy I am applying a GP (not touching the Default Policy) on our SBS, and adding members to it so that they can be applied with the GP. What I noticed, is that users have shortcut icons on their taskbar (near the Start button) in Windows 2000, and when i apply a GP to that user, he cannot see any shortcut icons on his taskbar. Also, the user has Local Admin rights, but I have disabled Control Panel and Active Desktop so that he cannot play with the machine - add/remove any programs or add a wallpaper. How do I enable the taskbar icons - can this be done? I then want to set up folder redirections for the desktop and My Documents as I want to setup Roaming Profiles for each user.     - Users cannot FTP from workstations Hi Have an SBS server. With two ethernet connections one to the internet and one to the lan. Server is setup as standard as it can be. It is utilising the ISA firewall. The workstations are Windows XP profesional workstations. Problem is that users cannot FTP to internet sites from thier workstations as either themselves or administrator. But you can FTP to the sites directly from the server. I will openly admit my knowledge is very limited. I have checked on the ISA server and the ports 20 and 21 in and out custom filters are there and are allow mode. Does anyone have any ideas.     - FTP connections Hi, This is going to be a long one :) I am running Win2k Server + SBS2k on quite fast machine. It has 2 NIC's instaled - Intel's server version, I don't think model number would change anything. This machine is a domain controller + all the stuff given, except IIS. Let's call this one SBS. The other machine is running Linux on PentiumPro 166 (or 200MHz - nevermind) and it is configured to work only as router for our company - which is I think good idea after all. It has much older NIC's - 3COM 10Mbps for LAN and CNet 10/100Mbps for WAN. I know that this NIC config does not make sense, but it works great. I will call this machine Lin. Workstatnions are all Pentium4 3.06GHz & so on. THE PROBLEM While connecting to Lin via SBS using any ftp client, you get the download "speed" 28kB/sec or 45.7kB/sec. This depends on firewall config on SBS - I get faster transfers while the firewall is working, and slow down when it's down. Weird, huh? Nevermind that. Those speed values have just nothing to do with what the transfer should be - at least 20 times more! It was like that on the beginning of the server's life - about 9 months ago. The ftp transfers from Lin to my workstation were >800kB/sec. I could blame firewall/proxy/anything for lowering transfer, but not that much. The other interesting thing is that when I connect to SBS using Terminal Client (I don't know the exact english name, but I hope you know what I mean), and FTP to Lin i get sometimes the highest transfer - as it should be - but mostly just as I wrote above - 45.7kb/sec. Looks like SBS is blocking the traffic. Has anyone of you got simillar situation? Any ideas of solving the problem? Or at least a good diagnosis?     - Getting TSWEb to work. Need help badly. I need to get Terminal services over the Web to work. Initially I installed Terminal services (configured for Remote Admin) on a server. Then installed the TSWeb files to the server thus creating the TsWeb virtual directory. Do I need to enable any specific security that is not configured by the TsWeb exe? I was able to get to a machine on the LAN from a sep machine on the LAN via web browser by entering the serverName/Tsweb into the Ie web address. When asked for the server name (within the TSWeb logon box) I entered the name of the system I want to control. This proved that it could work. I then opened ports 3389 and 80 and routed them to the server. Tried to connect ti my client's workstation via the internet and the WAN ip address followed by a "/tsweb." This retunred an error message of "The specified remote computer could not be found. Verify that you have typed the correct computer name or IP address, and then try connecting again." I figured maybe it was due to the fact I had TSWeb running on the same machine as SBS 2k. Split it onto a new system and lo and behold same issue. I tried to open ports 1234 (had IIS listen on the port) and 3389 and routed them to the new server, same result. I tried the user internal ip, the users full name Machine.domain.com. No good.     - VPN setup to other VPN host. I currently have some scheduled tasks which run in the middle of the night to exchange information using FTP, SMTP, POP3 and HTTP with various sites. I update retrieved information into my SQL database and then pass this information on to a hospital using an ODBC connection into their SQL server database. I also have the need to access their SQL server via SQL enterprise manager. The current setup allowed port 1433 access into their network and only from my fixed IP address range. As of 01/01/2004 they require me to do this via a secure VPN. As a newbie to VPN, the more I read in this newsgroup about problems others are having the more I am confused about the best approach. The server I have has two NIC cards, one for the internal address and the other for the WAN side. How is the best way to setup this VPN tunnel without affecting my normal FTP/HTTP internet access? Is it best to use the built in VPN software solution or should I get a cheap LinkSys type router with VPN built in? Is performance an issue, meaning is it a load on the server to do the encryption and VPN security, enough to warrant a hardware solution?     - VPN set up problem We have benn trying to set up a VPN connection. We can VPN from a client PC within the domain and it connects OK. We can VPN out to a remote site and it also works. Remote VPN into the SBS 2003 machine never gets past the "Verifying username and password" dialog box. We have stepped through KB 320 697 and 308 208 without any luck. When we first try to install it, it says that RRAS can't find the default remote access policy. This error is followed by one saying that 80020007 can't find the specified file.     - How does one retrive WAN IP address for remote access I have a Netopia router that apparently has some fairly advanced settings to allow me access into my office to use services such as XP Pro remote desktop I see where to configure the port forwarding in the router (TCP/UDP 3389) and I have the desktop access turned on at the client. But when I query the router info for the WAN side IP it shows me a private 10.0.0.x address. LAN side is in the 192.x.x.x range which I expected. How can i connect to this router (and thus the workstations) ? How can I find out the public address to this router? Contact the ISP (which could be a long wait) Or is ther another way? Ipconfig /all is no help either only reporting the LAN side IP. Also, once this is figured out,assuming their are 10 workstations all using XP Pro and configured for remote desktop, how does a remote user select *their* desktop machine?     - DNS Hosting a website on SBS2000. I'm also running DNS server. However, external clients can't resolve address. I can nslookup www.mydomain.com dns.mydomain.com and get the address. Users internal to the next work can resolve addresses in the DNS, such as dns, mail, www. I have server publishing rules for DNS Query and DNS Zone Transfer Server in ISA as well as packet filters as well as the DNS Filter. There is a router in front of the server, however the ISA server logs reveal that packets are getting through. I'm at a complete loss now. I've tried a variety of configurations and followed instructions at http://www.microsoft.com/serviceproviders/whitepapers/isp_dns_config.asp. Where am I going wrong?     - outbound fax problems I have a problem with my outgoing faxes through SBS2000. I have tried to send a fax with an attachment to an outside agent through Outlook XP.     - exchange I have a user who is getting copies of everyones sent and recieved e-mails in the domain. We download POP3 mail from individual accounts from our hosted mail into exchange. I am getting undeliverable messages for his account from anything we try to send him from the outside world. One read " A configuration error in the e-mail system caused the message to bounce between two servers or to be forwarded between two recipients." I have since killed his account on the POP3 connector and he is recieving mail at the ISP now. We have done no config changes on exchange. I am at a loss. Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Create Folder for a Group Forgive me to ask this very basic question: How do I create a folder in SBS2K in order to give access only to a group of user? I do not want anyone except this group to see the contents of the folder. I created a group (eg. MyGroup) from AD and added few users including myself to this group. I can see this group name under ..\Mybusiness\Group folder. I then created a folder (eg. GroupFolder) in the Server and select properties. I choose "Do not share this folder" in the Sharing tab. I added the MyGroup in the Security tab with Full access. I remove Everyone from the Security tab. When I try access to the file folder, I got the error "Access is denied". What did I do wrong?     - Shared Fax / Dialing rules / Outlook XP - need help with 100+ faxing per day ! I need to get Shared Fax working for a customer has Win2000 SBS (W2K sp3) and Outlook XP clients. I have done the Contacts import/export conversion so that ALL contacts have the canonical form dialing showing up. (i.e. +1-555-222-3333). The local phone company requires area-code inclusion for LOCAL calls. Long distance calls require +1 on the number. There are 2 USR 56k PCI modems installed on the server. they were on the Server 2000 HCL list. I have added to the Shared Fax - Outgoing Routing - Rules to use "1" as the country code for "all areas", "all devices". The default rule is still in place. So...the user STILL does not get a successful fax connection to a 1+###-###-#### attempt but you can pick up the same line with a handset and dial directly with a good result. Mostly, I'd love to hear from anyone who does a high volume of faxing 100+ per day, successfully. Also, which computer really controls the dialing...the client or the Win2K server? please, any help would be appreciated. I do have a MS support incident i can use but i want to get real world advice as to whether this thing will ever really work ...even with MS Support.     - Security on Company Sub Folders All, I posted a question a while ago about sub folders not inheriting the permissions set from higher folders. I have been looking at this again as it has come up after a few weeks. Below is the permissions for the company drive and a new sub folder created on a Win XP Pro machine. The Test document is not available to any other clients. D:\Company Shared - Domain Users, Domain Admins - FC not ticked to inherit from Parent. D:\Company shared\Advisory - Domain Users, Domain Admins - FC inherited from D:\Company Shared - Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object is ticked D:\company shared\advisory\test - FC Everyone D:\Company Shared\Advisory\Test\test document.doc - FC Administrators, System - ONLY Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object is ticked. When the Win XP Pro client created the about Sub folder Test and then the Test Document.doc the security is all wrong. Anyone any ideas why this is happening?     - Exchange log files Let me start by admitting that I don't take good enough care of my SBS 2000 box - that should avoid the 'serves you right' replies :-) I have SBS 2000 serving approx 35 employees, and I back the server up using Backup Exec 9.0. I run a FULL backup each weekday night. I have 2 large Exchange files... priv1.edb 2.8Gb priv1.stm 8.3Gb However, I have noticed today that I also have approx 12Gb of log files on another drive (e.g. E0008EDA.log), and the vast majority of these are from Sunday 7th December. Can somebody explain what is going on ? I thought the log files were deleted once they were backed up ? How can I have 12Gb of log files from a day when the server was barely used ? Ian.     - blicking unwanted virus spam In exchange is it possible to block these virus things claiming to be from microsoft? Our antivirus picks up around 10 per day and they jsut sit in the SMTP queue as the antivirus cant delete it. We use Mcafee. Is there any other way other than putting the adresses into the filter list, of blocking these annoying emails? If not, in the filter list can you block say a whole domain as in anything from.adviser.net as an example? Other people must have this very frustrating issue!! I have OWA installed and the article 327349 says to
unclear the check box for Ask Unauthentuicated users for
identification to fix this problem of prompting for
password. Will this open up the access to anyone?
