I upgraded a clients SBS2000 server over the weekend to SP4. Now there is a

User that is trying to send these faxes is on an XP Pro computer. He is the
only one that regularly uses the fax server. One of his faxes finally went
through after 2 days of trying. The fax numbers are correct. The updates to
the server over the weekend are the only changes made. Any help is
appreciated. The user is one of the few V.Ps in the company. Thanks in
advance.

This has nothing to do with SP4 but a lot more with the fact that this modem
is a soft PCI modem, the worst choice for server. Get a hardware external
modem that is on Microsoft's HCL.

Thank you for the reply. I will let them know that they need to purchase a
better one. Any idea why it worked well until now? He had been sending
multiple faxes a day since the shared faxe server was set up approx. 5
months ago. Thanks again.

Receiving and sending faxes is an extremely time sensitive process. It could
be that the CPU (because you use a soft modem) is too busy doing other
things. Fax traffic does not have any buffer function, only a fall back in
speed when things go wrong. Therefor it is very important to use a high
quality harware based external modem that can take some of the processing
away from the CPU. Even better is to use a dedicated fax board like the
Trufax from Brooktrout.

Why fax modems go wrong is sometimes a real mistery....

Are there limitations on the number of ports supported=20
when using a dedicated fax board? Can I use a 8 port=20
Brooktrout card or multiple cards even?

Thanks,
