If you buy the full version of SBS 2000 does Windows 2000 Server come in the
package? Do you have to purchase the OS separately? If so, do you need to
purchase CALs for it in addition to the CALs you purchase for SBS?

Thanks!!

Hi You - ;^)

SBS2000 includes Windows 2000 Standard, Exchange 2000 Standard, SQL 2000
Standard & ISA 2000, and includes 5 CALs. The only add-ons you'll need to
purchase are additional SBS CALs if you have more than 5 devices accessing
your LAN.

So yes, SBS2k includes Win2k and no, you do not have to purchase the OS
separately.

Just to add onto Chads...The CALS are supplied on floppy disks, so if you do
order additional CALS from a reseller make sure they supply the ' media '.
Licensing does NOT work the same way as plain 2K.

And do use something like disk image to make backups of your CAL floppies.
As once used they are marked as used and can make a full restore
problematic.
With a backup copy of the floppy you can produce a new one if required.
Not sure if this will be in breach of the licence (almost certainly is) but
as long as you have paid for as many CALs as you are using I would imagine
you are ok.

The CAL disks can be re-applied to the same server without any problem
(assuming no nic changes). If the nic is different, the CAL disk will
ask for an unlock code based on a key it will generate. You call MS at
the time for the unlock code (with the CAL disk in the machine).

Yes correct. But not something you really want to be doing at 3am in the
morning if you've had to re-build your server, possibly with new hardware.
As a lot of new MBs have the Nic on board it's not unrealistic to image
having to change a duff MB.
You takes your choice.
