I am considering upgrading to SBS and was wondering how
the desktop Fax module works. I can see how outgoing faxes
would be handled but what about incoming faxes, are they
displayed on screen and if so which application runs them?
Or is this just an outgoing service such that I would need
to retain my fax machine for incoming communication?

incoming faxes can be
stored in a folder as a tif file
emailed to a user as a tif file
printed
or any combination of above

You should retain your fax machine to send. Much simpler than scaning and
faxing those hand documents.
