    - Unexpected Shutdown, Event ID 6008 We have a Dell Poweredge 2300 server, running SBS 2000. We are having a problem where the server randomly freezes. This is generally, but not limited to, when everyone has gone home - so late evening, early morning. There is no discernible pattern, for instance, there is no cleaner coming in at 10:00pm and switching something off. Nothing is being recorded in Event Viewer, all we have is the about event id when the server is rebooted. As the crashes happen out of hours, no blue screen is being seen - the monitor has gone to sleep and cannot be woken - I don't see this as being the problem, as I'm typing this I would put money on the monitor having switched off with no effect to the server. The last one was at 6:10am this morning, about 20 minutes before anyone arrived for work. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.     - Anybody Using GAIM? I want to use GAIM instant messenger client for both MSN and Yahoo IM, but I can't get it to work with (or through) ISA. I've tried a whole heap of different proxy settings in GAIM but none of them seems to work. Both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger work fine with my ISA setup. TIA, NeilH -- "...     - Login box appears when using IE for customer site Hi All We deal with a customer in the far east. Ever since my users complain they have been getting lots more spam. Now I notice that when they open IE they get a log in box. The usernam is blank, but if you scroll down it then lists this customers web site and appends our user name i.e. www.W1mboxHK.com\Tanyac. If they just cancel they can carry on browsing, but everytime they go to a new link they find the pesky box re-appearing. Is this spyware/malware or possibley something more serious? The user ed@mydomain.com sent an email to an external user alyne@outside.com and CC to himself.     - Exchange on SBS 2000 won't receive mail I exchange drive got full and shutdown exchange. I deleted the log files and still couldn't mount mailstore so I ran the eseutil -r and -p and was able to restore exhange mailstore. I ran icw and I was able to send e-mail but not receive any. when I perform and online test with "This test will connect to a mail server via SMTP, perform a simple Open Relay Test, verify the server has a reverse DNS (PTR) record. It will also measure the response times for the mail server. If you don't know your mail server's address, start with a MX Lookup." the results i get are: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Also I have notice in the administrator and other profiles there are e-mail I can't delete. I re-installed Exchange with the SBS2000 setup and then ran ICW again but still can't receive e-mails and can't delete e-mails from inbox. kind of desparate I would be greatfull for help.     - Delegation Hello, What's the best way to troubleshoot delegation on an OU. I recently gave a group in AD permission to add/remove copmuter accounts on an OU. However, when I removed a user from that group, others users in the group were not able to add/remove computer accounts on the OU. How should I troubleshoot this problem?     - VPN Access My question is in relation to VPN on SBS 2000. Users connect to the server via VPN and use RDP to connect to the desktop. We have a 1.5Mbs/256K broadband connection with about 15 internal users and few remote ones, when a remote user logs in it's ok for a while then it slow down and frequently disconnects. The remote user is located in another country and has superfast broadband. I suspect that when Internet traffic in the office is high this is when the connection slows and disconnects. Is there a way to ensure that the VPN connection receives appropriate bandwidth? Are there any other setting that I can tweak? What speed Internet connection is appropriate to have this user operating at a comfortable level. Can any-one suggest a better way? Also occasionally we get the VPN server is not available, failed authentication attempts due to bad username and password when its not and attaching to the RPD pc sometimes says there are no connections available?     - POP3 Receiving Message Size Hello, My previous hosting service restriced the size of incoming messages to 15MB. My current hosting service does not provide "any" restriction on message size (actually it is about 100MB). Bearing in mind we use the SBS POP3 Connector, is there any advantage to my configuring a maximum "receiving message size"? After all, the message will have to be downloaded to generate an NDR.     - Cannot install Shared Fax Client on SBS200 I have some problem installing Shared Fax Client on a new Win2000 Client Sp4. Here's what is required and issues we may have:- PHP4 running on IIS as an ISAPI module MySQL server running on the main box - it doesn't have a big performance / memory impact so other services, such as Exchange should be unaffected by it. external access required for me to develop and support the system: FTP / SFTP ports 21/22 to the intranet site (preferably SFTP if we can do it) MySQL port 3306 for the database Is there any "SBS Specific" reason why we cant set this up ?     - Quick Terminal Server Question I havent configured a terminal server to our sbs2000 server in a while and I have a quick ?. I have sbs2000 along with a server 2000 box in terminal mode. How is the licening server suppost to work. I installed the licensing on the sbs2000 box but how is the licensing acitvate handled? Do I actally have to contact microsoft inorder to do this or am I missing step since from what I understand I am allowed to use terminal server with the sbs2000 licenses correct?     - Folder redirection problem We use a Win2K SBS server with Win2K clients with most recent updates. On the server we have redirected the mydocuments folder in the policy. This works fine. However since a few days some clients all of a suden get the following message You are no longer connected to '%servername%' you may continue working offline. The connection is broken en comes only back when we choose to sync the offline maps. However this is strange because nothing changed. It seems to be a local problem with the client bacause when we log in with the same username on another computer it seems to work fine. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?     - Computer name question I am setting up a new server for a customer, and to minimise problems with SQL server (they have eight sites replicating in various configurations) I want to set the computer name and domain to be exactly the same. I can then remove the old machine, insert the new one with the old machines HDD inserted, and copy the SQL server data across. However, on building the new machine, I have entered the computer name all in uppercase (as it is on the current machine) but My Computer->Network shows the name in lower case. My two questions are: 1. Will that matter to SQL server? I know little about it myself but it was stressed that I should make the computer name and domain name *exactly* the same on the new box. 2. If it matters, can I change it to uppercase? If so, how? When I look in various Active Directory management screens it seems to show the machine name in caps, but not in My Computer \ Properties.     - Remote Access - Use Server or Router? Hello. I appreciate anyone's general guidance, even if it's "go hire someone". I want the ability to access our server remotely from any of our PC's. A tech guy I hired for other reasons said we will have to use the router as our VPN and not the server. My question is does this sound right? Should we be "logging in" to the router and not the server when trying to access the server remotely? Is this the best way to do it? Background info: I have a new server running Small Business Server 2003. The internet comes through a voice T1 into a router and all 11 PC's (running a combo of XP home and Pro), including the server, are plugged into the Netgear Router plus extra Netgear switch.     - AVG 7 and ISA server 2000 Using SBS 2000. I wondered if someone knows what I need to set in ISA server (firewall and proxy) to allow AVG 7 professional (not free version) automatic updates from client PCs (XP sp2). It seems to be a permissions related. The update mechanism seems to run as local system which can't get through ISA. If I change the automatic AV update to run as the user, the update downloads, but doesn't have the correct permissions to update all files and fails there (XP firewall is set correctly). Couldn't find anything useful on Grisoft's site. Tried telling it to use SBS as proxy with user's username and password according to Grisoft docs, but it still fails (with or without username and password). I had some instructions (which I now can't find - don't ask) that involved a destination set, the http redirector filter and using the firewall client.     - What is happening after the latest MS critical updates ??!!!!!!!!     - Upgrade SBS 2000 to Window 2003 domain question I am already running Exchange 2003 (with all mailboxes migrated and Exchange 2000 services turned off) and full/stand alone SQL 2000 in a SBS 2000 domain. I'll soon uninstall Exchange 2000 and move some file shares and apps on the SBS 2000 box. The next step is to then to move the FSMO roles to a second 2000 DC (already a GC and running DNS) and then demote the original SBS 2000 DC to a member server, then remove that member server from the domain.     - Backups? I was wondering how everyone handles archive type backups? I am trying to figure out the best way other than the normal daily, weekly and monthly backups to get and store the backups for years at a time. I am wondering if some sort of off-site storage other than say my house or the principals house to keep these at which is what we are doing at the current time.     - ISA Cache? Hi all, Scenario: If I have 3 machines (Windows XP Pro) and I need to run Windows Update on all 3, I run it on the first PC and let it complete. When I run it on the other two, it downloads the packages very quickly, I believe they are coming from the server and not the microsodft website. But...     - Is My SBS Open to Mail Relay? Greetings! SBS2K. Two NIC setup. Running ISA and Exchange 2000. I've run the tests for relay mentioned in KB304897 and I'm not getting the 550 error message from my Exchange server telling me that my server is closed to mail relay. On the "Access" tab of the SMTP Virtual Server, I have ALL options checked (Anonymous Acces, Basic auth, and Integrated Windows Auth). On the "Relay" tab, I have "Only the list below" selected and both the private (10.x.x.x) and public (192.x.x.x) IPs listed, and "Allow all computers..." checked. On the "Address Space" tab under SMTP Connector, Type is SMTP, Address is *, and Cost is 1. Also, "Allow messages to be relayed to these domains" is NOT checked.     - NTbackup restore must catalogue tape first - why? Specs: Using NTbackup on SBS2000 wtih all SPs. Compaq Proliant ML350 with Compaq 12/24 DAT. Performing a Full backup every weeknight. Full backup fits on one tape. Problem: I have done restores in the past and in order to select the file to restore, all I needed to wait on was loading the tape and then I could make my file selections and start the restore. In all, a restore of a few files might take 10-15 minuites start to finish. Lately, before I can even select the files I want to restore, I have to wait for the entire tape to catalogue which can take several hours.
