Hi everyone:

The location https:\\myserver\exchange\anyuser is meaningless outside the
office local network. Yes, I tested from home and it did not work. It
works if I get access via my office VPN connection from home. However, we
want it to work from any browser.

Also this has become important because I have discovered that Exchange
Server Web access is not working properly in the following way. If persons
in the office send email, it is immediately visible remotely using Exchange
Server Web access. However, if persons outside the office send me email, it
does not appear in the in-box through Exchange Server Web access at all,
until after I access my account using Outlook Express at home or Outlook at
the office. . How can I make exchange to see email sent from external
domains all together with people from our domain. We also use apollohosting
to host our email/website services. If I go to the web mail account in
apollohosting I only see the external emails, not the emails that are sent
withing our domain. How can I solve these 2 problems. Can someone help me
get to the bottom of these problem. Any help will be appreciated.

thanks to all in advance,

Denise

It would seem you may not have setup external access when you run the
Internet connection wizard. When you are asked to setup firewall rules
select enable firewall then select next which is where you can open ports
for FTP etc. then click next which brings up web services configuration. You
must ensure that outlook via Internet is selected before processing. I hope
this post is helpful.

Denise there are multiple issues going on here
I'm going to address the second part first

You indicate email is being handled by Apollohosting.
So you are using the Exchange POP3 Connector to collect email from =
Apollo and bring it down to your Exchange Server?
How are you connected to the Internet?? Do you have full time =
connection to the net, with a static IP??
This would solve much of the problem!

Since you have the ability to VPN in, it would appear that you have a =
static IP address for internet connectivity.
When you connect by VPN do you connect by name or by IP??

To connect by name you must have DNS records being published on =
authoritative DNS servers which allows users to type in a url and have =
it go to the ip assigned to your server.

so from the outside you want type in something like =
http://sbsserver.mydomain.com/exchange then type in your user name and =
password but if you don't have the right DNS records out there it =
doesn't know how to get to that address.

And if you have the static IP you can have all mail bound for =
mydomain.com go straight to the exchange server in real time instead of =
out to your webhost and then have to be collected every 15 minutes.

Does this help??? Ask more questions if you need to

Chris thanks for helping me out.

I am new to exchange and it's been 2 weeks since we have gone live with =

How can I check if my recodrs are being pulisehd on authoritative DNS =

Don't worry about being new, we all were at some point and you are =
welcome back here to ask or share anytime you want to or need to

Regarding backup of email. You can arrange with many different =
companies to provide email backup should your system become unavailable.
Who ever handles your dnsrecords for your domain name can set up what =
are called MX records which will point mail directly to your server as =
the primary and somewhere else as a secondary.

To check your domain records go to http://www.dnsstuff.com/

One of the records you need to have published is an A record which =
points people using a url to the IP address you have
Lets say you called your server when you installed it, server01 and your =
domain name is mycompany.com
Then to get to Exchange for OWA you would put in =
http://server01.mycompany.com/exchange

This should get you a bit farther down the road...if you need more help, =
we're here

You indicate email is being handled by Apollohosting.
So you are using the Exchange POP3 Connector to collect email from =
Apollo and bring it down to your Exchange Server?
How are you connected to the Internet?? Do you have full time =
connection to the net, with a static IP??
This would solve much of the problem!

Since you have the ability to VPN in, it would appear that you have =
a static IP address for internet connectivity.

Hi everyone:

The location https:\\myserver\exchange\anyuser is meaningless =
outside the
office local network. Yes, I tested from home and it did not =
work. It
works if I get access via my office VPN connection from home. =
However, we
want it to work from any browser.

Also this has become important because I have discovered that =
Exchange
Server Web access is not working properly in the following way. If =
persons
in the office send email, it is immediately visible remotely using =
Exchange
Server Web access. However, if persons outside the office send me =
email, it
does not appear in the in-box through Exchange Server Web access =
at all,
until after I access my account using Outlook Express at home or =
Outlook at
the office. . How can I make exchange to see email sent from =
external
domains all together with people from our domain. We also use =
apollohosting
to host our email/website services. If I go to the web mail =
account in
apollohosting I only see the external emails, not the emails that =
are sent
withing our domain. How can I solve these 2 problems. Can someone =
help me
get to the bottom of these problem. Any help will be appreciated.

thanks to all in advance,

Denise
