too many open tcp ports

According to a certified partner vendor, I have an
unusally high number of open tcp ports. When running the
netstat -a command the list is quite long compared to my
other servers. We have had some virus and security issues
recently.

My vendor needs port number 1500 to listen in their
program, but can not get it to open. They believe the
large number of open ports is the cause.

What do I do to reduce the ports open to normal range?

which interface??? Internally, all ports are open...but on your external NIC
there should only be a few ports open. Go to grc.com Shields Up and see
what ports are open....or checkout your ISA config.

Jeff,

Also, verify that packet filtering within ISA is enabled. You need to
have the box "enable packet filtering" checked in order for the firewall
to block ports.

1. How many Nics do you have on the server?
2. Are you using an External Router on the network? Are the ports blocked
on it?
