I have noticed our Windows 2000 Small Business Server slowing down over
time. Today I took a look at the task manager and noticed that out of 1GB
RAM, it was running with only 28mb RAM remaining....

When I dug into the issue a bit more I noticed a process called STORE.EXE
sitting at 734mb RAM.

Why is this process taking up so much RAM? I have been planning on adding
RAM to this machine and I guess I need to do it soon. I will also reboot to
see if some can be reclaimed.

I just want to know why this gets so large, and what I can do to minimize
it?

Thanks,

Brad

Hi Brad,

Exchange will take as much RAM as it can get, but also release it if needed
by other programs.
Make sure you are not av scanning the Exchange folders. Do not backup or av
scan the M drive.

After rebooting my mahcine, the STORE.EXE process is only utilizing 62mb RAM
from 734MB!!! Wow!!!

And the machine has been back up for 5 hours almost now... Still makes me
wonder how well it actually releases memory!!!

I am not scanning or backing up the M drive.

Hi Brad,

It will take a few days for Exchange to settle down. Is the SBS fully
patched? There has recently been an update for Exchange SP3: 870540.

Marina -- this is SBS2000, not SBS2003.

Brad, this issue with Store.Exe has been hit or miss with SBS2000. Some
people don't have it at all, some do encounter it. Yes, when you reboot it,
it will go back down. Someone previously posted how you can easily test and
see if Store.Exe is releasing memory by sending a whole bunch of emails.

My bad - I thought you were referening Exchange 2003! (And I even looked at

Hi Brad,

Go to www.shavlik.com and get HfNetchkPro. This will scan for everything on
your server: Exchange, SQL, IIS, ISA, Office.
