    - remove and convert DC to SBS 2000 I am looking to consolidate 2 company, one has beefy SBS 2000 and other has not so beefy standard Windows 2003 server. I am looking to create all new user profile on SBS 2000 with WIN2003 users, host email for that domain also. I will demote WIndows 2003 DC to Member Server of SBS2000. I think I got all my bases cover on the server, except hosting 2 domain mail for 2 company. Any info would be appreciated. ALso what is the best way to preserve all local user setting when poiting to new Domain (SBS 2000). In the past I have used File and Setting Tranfer Wizard but I hate it.     - Laptop User Account Offline Domain Expires A user cannot login to his laptop, using his standard domain based network user account when he is disconnected from our SBS2k network. He can login if he has only been disconnected for a few minutes, but if he tries to login say 2 hours after pulling the plug, it won't work with a message "The domain is unavailable". Looking in the Control Panel's User accounts, when the laptop has been offline, none of the network based accounts are listed, but when the lapptop is connected, the user accounts, domain based, that have been specificaly assigned to the laptop (including this users) are shown. The user is aPower User in the SBS2k Network. Users always used to be able to log in when offline. Has upgrading the laptop Win XP Pro from SP1 to SP2 changed something?     - email spoof Is there a way to prevent email spoofing. My user complaint about people are calling them and asking why she send certain message. She confirmed with me that she never sent those message. I think this is a case of email spoofing right? I confirmed that her machine does not have virus. Also, i am trying to look for real facts on upgrading to W2003 servers and IIS6.0 rather than using W2K and IIS5. Are there any white papers or other documentation that can help me make this case?     - Exchange Cleanup We run SBS 2K w/ Exchange server, we host our own mail. We initially installed on drive C: and it is filling up quiclky. We only have the server and five client emails. How can we reduce the size of the Exchange data base? I have set up the accounts to archive all emails over two months. My bad email folder is rather large too?     - Migrating SBS 2000 to 2003 Server w/ Exchange 2003 Hello all, I will be migrating a SBS 2000 site to a new Windows 2003 server running Exchange 2003. I haven't really used SBS server before and would just like any warnings/ideas/suggestions that will help the migration process go smooth. I have setup the new 2003 Server w/ Exchange 2003 in a new domain and will need to migrate user data from the SBS to the new server. I have (1) WAP on the local network.     - SBS 2003 licensing Hello I administer a care facility that is using NT server with 10 NT workstations. Because of the different shiffs there are never more than 5 connections to the server. We just purchased SBS2003 premium, w/ 5 cals. Just looking at the new installation of SBS2k3 I am guessing that the I need to purchase more CALs, one for every workstation that I add to the domain. Am I right?? Also is a CAL needed for remote access by our software vendor?? Unless I can configure access thru a workstation looks like I will have to buy 5 CALs for the rest of the workstations and 5 CALs just for the remote access. Because of the shiff work the it looks like the computer CAL will work better than user, unless I can do both?? Looks like I need to catchup on new server products. Thanks for any help.     - OWA woes I am running win2k sbs with exchange 2k. I am trying to allow my users access to OWA over the internet. I have made it work on the intranet, but have been unable so far to get access from outside. We don't host our website, and so have no webserver. Our internet access is set up so that all clients access the sbs server, which then sends the requests to our gateway router/firewall (NAT) that is connected to a local cable company.     - SBS 2000 and Trend Hi Everyone: Believe it or not, a client has finally agreed to replace their SBS 4.5 with SBS 2000. Why SBS 2000 you ask? Because this is the free one that they got after purchasing SBS 4.5 near the end of its marketing cycle. And why now? Because they have finally been overwhelmed with SPAM. The owner and his grown son seem to enjoy attracting the stuff, mainly by visiting web sites that we all agree are not the kind Mom would like. My question is whether to use Trend CMS or Trend Neat Suite.on this server? Want to block spam, and am willing to add a third party anti spam program, but if one of the Trend products will do it all that would be fewer complications.     - Application server shuts down I am trying to figure out who might be doing this. I do not see any worker bees in the administrator group. The worker bees do not see the actual shutdown option according to one of the staff. Event log has an entry for event logging shutting down so it looks to be a contolled shutdown. I see that I can turn on logging for successful login but I do not see any logoff tracking. Am I missing something? Jim B.     - Can't join domain through VPN I'm trying to setup a vpn between a main office and a branch office. Both locations each have a LinkSys BEFVP41v2 and I've successfully established a tunnel between them. The server has two nics and ISA. I can ping the server's wan nic ip from the remote location and I can ping the router's LAN ip and the LAN ip of the workstation at the branch office. But I cannot join the domain at the main office. In the router at the main office, I've forwarded port 1723 to the wan nic/ip of the Server (192.168.1.2), but I didn't know where to enable protocol 47. I've run the wizard on the server to enable vpn so I think I have that right. The subnet at the branch office is 192.168.2.x I cannot ping the server's internal nic ip from the workstation (am I suppose to be able to)? Thanks for your ideas.     - Not Receiving internet e-mail on our new SBS2003 I have followed the advice of a few online articles and allowed all the wizards to configured this system. My first problem was that they did not configure my plug and play router. I re-configured it with two network cards. Now everything works but I can not receive email. Yes, I have confirmed that our MX record is correct. I don't have POP3, so I am not using that connector. The internet e-mail connector is using the Default SMTP Virtual Server - which I assume opens port 25 - I can not seem to find were to adjust those settings.     - ISA Logs and Space Problem The SBS2000 server is slowly running out of free space on the C: drive with more space disappearing each night. Investigation has shown the space is being consumed by log files being created in the directory "C:\Program Files\Microsoft ISA Server\ISASummaries" presumably for use is ISA reporting which is not used. Internet activity is never likely to be scrutinised. Can someone please give me instructions on how to: 1. Safely delete these log files 2.     - ISA log question Hi, all, Our company is using sbs2000 and ISA is installed. Internal IP 192.168.16.2 and external IP 70.68.x.x. Yesterday I checked the ISA log files. Most of the IP I saw are 192.168.16.X and 127.0.0.1 which are normal. But I saw two ip are 70.68.34.x and 70.68.240.x. I don't know they are normal or not becuase I think I should see all internl IP addresses. The actual message I see in the log file is (I use x to replace the last 3 digits): 70.68.34.x anonymous - 2004-11-08 00:15:08 w3proxy SERVER - - - Does this mean our LAN is intruded by a Hecker?     - Receive Outlook Mail Hi there, I have a client with SBS2K and Exchange 2K setup and the Outlook Client seems to check itself on opening but then after that it doesn't appear to check the server itself for new mail rather you have to click send and recieve. The desktop pc's use Outlook 2000. Is there a way to change this to auto check (yes Outlook is left open all day). Also when an email is prepared and an email address is inserted that system automatically changes it to a blue colour and changes the font size of the whole email address. How can I stop it from automatically changing things? Also I want to control the APC Smart UPS 1000 from Windows so that it will shutdown safely. The bundled software doesn't seem to do it very well.     - Group Policy Questions I am trying to setup Group Policy on our SBS 2000 machine. The main reason why we are doing this is to roll out a DSN registry key for an ODBC System DSN. I have opened up AD, right-clicked>Properties and I can see in there a Group Policy tab and in there listed Default Domain Policy. I have added a new GP called "company policy" with no overide ticked. Questions... 1. Now, how do I apply this policy to a user or machine? 2.     - NDR is not working! Hi, We are running SBS2000 with Exch2kSP3. We have around 40 mailboxes setup to be <firstname>@domain.com, where we pick up POP3 from our ISP and download mail into our SBS box via GFI MEss. If I send an email to our domain that is not configured as an SMTP in the mailboxes, e.g. elephant@domain.com, then GFI Mess picks it up as processed OK, but where does it go? There is not a mailbox existant for this person called elephant - so where does it go? I was looking at newsgroups and added in the Default SMTP Virtual Server>Properties, Messages tab, Send copy of non-del reports to and put my email address in there (administrator) as my name@domain.local. Is this correct? I need help!!!     - Routing and remote access Hi, I have an SBS 2000 server which for some reason stops talking to the internet as soon as I try to configure routing and remote access to allow remote users to connect via VPN. I have re-run the CEICW and checked the bindings in the advanced option for the network settings. I have two NICS and ISA installed and then also a firewall/router running on the WAN connection. I have run through Microsofts articles on making sure that SBS is configured correctly for 2 NIC's. For some reason the clients are also having some trouble (with or without the Routing and Remote access configured) with data speed accross the network being very slow. (if I copy the data locally and try to open it is very quick, from the server, veerrryyy sllloowww.??!!?? Sounded like Bindings problem and or DNS/WINS problem to me but cant find any faults there. No errors in event logs...................... Client PC's are Windows XP Pro running SP2 with all the latest updates on server and clients.     - TS access only 2 users? Hi One of my customer is using VPN remote access, it works pretty well. An additional remote user needs to access the server & use TS to run an application. The application software writer has set up a new remote user, but by using active directoty, not the SBS user wizard. (Despite my instructions to always use the wizards). It seems that after about a week, this user is losing their TS desktop settings & it has to be set up again. Is this normal? Also it appears that TS will only handle 2 users at once. Is this correct? The current config is: Dell Poweredge 2500 P3 800 x 1 1024Mb Ram (4x256) 3 x 32 Gb SCSI Raid 5 My question is to find out what the most effective solution may be from the following: 1. Somehow limit the memory allocation of the SQL database. 2. Throw another 1024 (2 x 512) Memory into the box 3.     - VPN setup on SBS2003 Can some one advise on how to setup VPN on our SBS2003. Objective: Home users should be able to access the folders on the SBS2003 located in the office. The home users are equipped with XP Laptops and an ISP connection via Cable or DSL services providers. SBS2003: This server's NIC is assigned 192.168.x.y and this server is also connected to DSL router provided by "Speakeasy". They have given us a static IP 68.236.c.d The question is what are the steps I should take to acheive the above objective. I have gone through www.smallbizserver.net but not much of help.     - SBS machine slowing down.... I have noticed our Windows 2000 Small Business Server slowing down over time. Today I took a look at the task manager and noticed that out of 1GB RAM, it was running with only 28mb RAM remaining.... When I dug into the issue a bit more I noticed a process called STORE.EXE sitting at 734mb RAM. Why is this process taking up so much RAM? I have been planning on adding RAM to this machine and I guess I need to do it soon. I will also reboot to see if some can be reclaimed.     - can not locate domain I have a customer trying to connect some workstations in a sbs2k environment. We receive a cannot find domain error. domain name is correctly typed. domain admin account used to try to create an account. IP protocol seems to be working fine. Can ping, server and other computers. What to try next? What protocol, etc is used to establish this connection? Can it be corrupted kinda like winsock does so often on xp? It's part of the .Net Framework, when used with IIS. You should run a
maintenance repair of the Framework on that machine, which ought to fix
it. If it doesn't, you would probably have to uninstall and reinstall
the Framework.
