Hello
I administer a care facility that is using NT server with 10 NT
workstations. Because of the different shiffs there are never more than 5
connections to the server. We just purchased SBS2003 premium, w/ 5 cals.
Just looking at the new installation of SBS2k3 I am guessing that the I need
to purchase more CALs, one for every workstation that I add to the domain.
Am I right?? Also is a CAL needed for remote access by our software vendor??
Unless I can configure access thru a workstation looks like I will have to
buy 5 CALs for the rest of the workstations and 5 CALs just for the remote
access. Because of the shiff work the it looks like the computer CAL will
work better than user, unless I can do both??

Looks like I need to catchup on new server products. Thanks for any help.
Mike

Yes device cals are the way to go
What is your software vendor going to do on your server?
You get two RDP sessions on your SBS server, so should not have need the
additional license for that

Also with SBS you can buy 1 cal at a time as you need it

You can use a combination of user and device CALs on SBS. MS recommends that
you don't mix them, but its not really an issue.

It looks like you have more users than devices.... if you have 10 PCs that
are going to be used by several users you need 10 device CALs. It doesn't
really matters that you only connect 5 at any given time... you still need
to permanetly assign a CAL to an user or a device.

About the software vendor... they would need an user cal. The only problem
is that you can only buy CALs on 5 packs. So, if you have 10 devices already
you would need to bump CALs to 15 (although, you could have 14 device CALs
and 1 user CAL).
