There's a gentle man who has been around this newsgroup and guided me
for as long as I can remember. He's a guy to makes me calm down. Who
warmly invites everyone in and makes sure that this newsgroup treats all
who enter with respect.

Mr. Grey Lancaster may not be a SBS MVP in the eyes of the Microsoft MVP
program, but in my eyes, he will always be the guiding light to how we
treat people around here.

I thank you, from the bottom of my heart for helping me in the past,
guiding me in how in treat people around here.

This is SBSland where we give out advice with a hug because of Mr. Grey
Lancaster.

Grey started the SBS family with a listserve on his wife's school's
computer. That listserve now has over 1,700 subscribers. Each
newsgrouper out here gets his guidance through me. I know not to rant
too much, to apologize when I do because that's not how we treat SBSers.

Thank you for allowing me to post this... time for bed now...

Thank you Susan for beginning this thread.

Grey, you are an incredible person and I thank you for what you have done to
set the tone of the communities surrounding Small Business Server. Thank
you for your contribution in my life and business and the thousands others
you have touched through the years. You have paved the way for us and I am
grateful for the opportunity I have had to have met you.

You are "Still Grey" no matter what title is placed or taken away from your
name. :-)

Once again, thank you for all your work and effort through the years,
Steve

It was my very great privilege to have met Grey at the MVP summit, and I
shan't ever forget his kind words and welcome into the SBS MVP
Community.

Every family needs a Patriarch, and I feel the SBS Family has lost
something with the non awarding of an MVP status to Grey this year.
Curious decision on MS's part as they are particularly interested in
what dynamic makes the SBS MVP Community so productive, and looking to
extend that and to model other Product Group MVP participation on it.

Hopefully, he'll be back in the MVP ranks Next Year and till then we can
all remember him and try to model ourselves on his gentle Southern
Gentleman's nature and his large, warm, welcoming smile and hand to all.

Grey, thank you. Your generosity and patience helping SBS'ers back in the
4.0 days made a major contribution to my personal success and that of my
employer. Your wisdom and kindness have set a standard that the rest of us
can only try to live up to. You'll be missed.

The first technical thing I ever learned online about SBS, I learned from
Grey.

The only reason I ever wanted to be an MVP, was to be more like Grey.

The most important things I know about community, I learned from watching
Grey.

The last thing I want to hear when my day comes is that I left with the
respect of Grey.

I just can't believe that leadership in community expires...not if you have
been like Grey.

Since Grey is my friend, I still have Grey.

I just keep crying for the community that needs more Grey.

As the MVP program becomes more relevant to MS, it risks becoming more
irrelevant to the community that exists and is exposed in this newsgroup.
The proof is in the many, many people take the time to contribute here and
elsewhere, but yet do not seem to fit the MS definition of MVP.

This newsgroup is a perfect example of how the SBS community is greater than
the SBS MVP program. We are quite capable of deciding for ourselves who the
real MVPs are or are not, thanks anyway.

You guys (and gals, EVERYONE) just keep on doing what you do best, MS
appointed MVP or community recognized MVP.

Grey's not going away. The MS MVP program doesn't define his existence.
Rather, it's the other way around.

Surely someone at Microsoft is responsible for this decision and has a boss
who could perhaps see that the situtation is rectified.

Microsoft has shown an ability to correct at least some of their obvious
errors.

Grey's assistance in the past has been invaluable and meeting him at the
partner's summit this summer confirmed he is a nice guy.

So MVP's and others with direct connects to M$, do your thing and fix this.

I can certainly attest to the SBS Community being greater than the SBS MVP
Program. When I stopped being your MVP Lead, you all didn't suddenly kick me
out of your lives, email threads and dinner plans in Charlotte.

Grey was the first MVP and he always made my job a joy. Grey has always
epitomized graciousness.

We love you, Grey.
