DHCP is not handing out new ip's

Problem:

Workstation is denied access to the domain upon logon. If
the client is disconnected from the lan, the client logs
in, without being authenticated of course. When the
client is connected back to the lan, dhcp shows that an
existing ip that did not expire is being used. Thanks for
your help. Kurt

SBS 2000 -SP4

Hi Kurt,

It sounds like the client has a fixed ip? It should be a full dhcp client.

Check that, and if that doesn't do it then try the ipconfig commands from a
dos box to clear everything and renew.

Ok, (I should ask, these are xp pro boxes, right?)

See what Franz has there, and if you're not getting anywhere we can go over
the dhcp server configuration in some detail.

Ipconfig /all pulls up the proper info on the client

/release and /nenew work fine and will remove and acquire
the same ip - .38

On the server, I excluded .38, logged out of the
workstation and went back in and it stopped the user at
the login. I have him disconnect the patch cord, he
passed the login fine, reattached the cord and had him
disable and enable the lan connection and the workstation
works. DHCP does show a new .41 address.

Had him logout and in and it failed.

Hard-coded the DNS and WINS settings in TCP with no
change. Ping to the DC resolves fine.

I have an old ip address with a name that does not match
anything on the domain - 'npiee669' that expires 9/5a

I have 10 entries for the DC all expiring on 9/2

What else can I give you and thanks for everyone's help!

Kurt

Let me explain where I was after: if Outlook is not shut down and logged off
properly, you'll get about the same error. I must admit that I'm not sure if
it denies logging into the domain completely, but it will deny logging into
Exchange.
How many cal-licenses have you got?
