Hi, all,

I did noticed some Tech. persons say somthings like forward the port (eg.
25) to the external NIC of the sbs server several times, but I still don't
know how to actually do this. Can anybody show me how to do this? Thanks very
much. Although I have been in this NB for a while (10 months), i still think
I am a newbie to SBS. Please forgive me that I asked a basic question like
this.

Hi John,

Forwarding a port is an operation done in the router configuration.
Generally, there is a web interface where you can specify a port and the IP
address where you want traffic forwarded. With a 2 NIC and router
configuration, you would specify that traffic coming in on a certain port be
forwarded to the IP address of the external NIC on your SBS server. With
this done, the router does not stop or "interrogate" the traffic on that
port, but simply "forwards" it to the IP address of the external NIC for
processing.

For a better explanation, go to this web site and select a router (hopefully
your router is listed). After clicking on your router, click on the "port
forwarding" link(s) for a graphical walkthrough of how to set up forwarding
on your router:

Thanks Merv. I took a look at the control web interface of my linksys cable
router. I now know how to do this and I noticed that the previous IT guy of
our company already forwarded 2 TCP ports and 1 udp ports to the server.
