How do I remove a contact?
Hi all,
I created a contact on the server with an email address of
advice@domainname.com but now I need to give it to a user instead but I can't
as it already exists in the domain.
How do I delete it so I can reassign it to a user? I've tried looking but
can't find it anywhere.
Thanks in advance,
Andy. Tag: forex business Tag: 179510
DHCP
I am having problems with clients trying to join the domain. When they try to
join they are showing little or no connectivity on their network connections.
XP clients with sp 2. When I go to the server I show a blue exclamation mark
on the server in the DHCP scope. When I look at the address leases I only
show ten active leases however when I right click on the server and click on
the statistics it shows 202 of 202 leases taken and 100% taken. I am stumped.
Something is not releasing the leases. All VPN clients can connect to the
server no problem. Are the VPN connections not releasing?

Mailbox sharing / generic mailbox question
Hi there,
My client has a pop box called advice@domainname.com. This is pulled down
and routed to an individual users mailbox via the POP connector.
When this user is on holiday other users have to log on as this user to
check for any mail coming to the advice mailbox. How do I give other users
access to their mailbox? I have looked in the user account properties
Exchange tabs but can't find the same options as available in SBS 2003.
A better alternative long term would be to create a generic user called
advice, have the email routed there and then give the other users permission
to open that mailbox as well, but I need to know how to do the permission bit
first I guess.
Any help appreciated,
Thanks,
Andy. Tag: forex business Tag: 179505

New Orleans Conference a Huge Success
I've just arrived home from Jeff Middleton's IT Pro 2007 Conference in New
Orleans and I just wanted to let everyone know that it was a huge
success...from the key note...to the various panel discussions, the deep
dive sessions, Microsoft's presentation on Cougar, the vendors and of course
New Orleans, Bourbon St. and last nights cruise on the Mississippi. There
was overwhelming indications from those present that they would like to see
this happen again next year and Jeff seemed to indicate he'd put efforts in
that direction. And I know we all came home with lots to think about.
It was nice to put a face to some of you from the NG's here and unfortunate
that many more of you did not make it.
Remember that Wayne Small, SBS - MVP and founder of SBSFAQ.com is hosting a
seminar in Sydney Austrailia over Thanksgiving...he has a great line up and
activities planned...
And start planning now to join us for Jeff's IT PRO 2008 Conference (or
whatever it winds up being called). Meantime, Jeff and others are
continuing the conference aboard a cruise ship bound for Mexico. Bon
Voyage.
I'll be happy to answer any questions anyone might have about this
conference.

Old user, old computer, new combination yields no rights
I've got a small existing domain based on an SBS computer. There
are 2 client machines running Win XP that see most of the use on this
domain. (Well call them A and B.) One of my users has exclusively
used machine A for several years now. This week I had her log in on
machine B to get her set up, since A will soon be retired. Machine B
is newer than A, but still nearly a year old and has been on the
domain the entire time.
She has no problem logging in on B, but once there, she appears to
have no permissions, even to her own desktop and My Documents folder.
For example, if she right-clicks the desktop and selects "New > Text
Document" she gets an error dialog reading "Unable to create the file
New Text Document.txt. Access is denied."
She's set up with normal Domain User permissions (I generally don't
use local permissions) and has no problem on the old machine (A).
Other users on machine B aren't having problems. Am I missing
something obvious in getting her set up on this other machine?
Thanks,

PROCESSOR RUNNING AT 100%
Hi
The processor is running at 100% all the time - SBS2000
Tried booting the server in 'safe' mode and the problem dissapeared
I then re-booted in normal mode and went through all the services turning
off each and checking for the
processor to function normally - thought I'd found it when I turned off
terminal services as the processor apperaed to start running at normal
speed.
When I looked in the Admin Console - Server Status - Health Monitor Alerts:
I was seeing the following 2 messages still:-
Severity Data Collector Alert
Critical Network Interface WMI Status 2147749889
So I re-booted again but the problem with the processor running at 100%
returned!
Messages in Admin Console - Server Status - Health Monitor Alerts:
are now different and as follows:-
Severity Data Collector Threshold
Alert
Network Interface Bytes total/sec >500000
Network Interface Critical Condition WMI Status 2147749889
Network Interface Error code (from WMI)
Network Interface Critical Condition WMI Status 2147749889
What is this? Have I got a dodgy network card possibly - or is it something
else
that is causing this?
Any assistance would be greatly apprecieted.

Installing 2nd processor in SBS 2000 machine...
We currently have a Dell SBS 2000 server running Exchange and SQL Server. We
have purchased and are installing a 2nd processor into this machine.
My question is this... Some PC Utilities and even SQL server already show
the server as having two processors (right-click and select properties on
the appropriate server group in SQL server enterprise manager and it shows
number of processors = 2) when it does indeed only have ONE processor
installed. I know for SQL server that this is definately by design.
However, what will happen when it actually does have two processors??? Am I
going to have to make some configuration changes to SQL server configuration
etc.. (and whatever else) so that it will properly use two physical
processors??
Help!

Configuring performance counters for Exchange...
I want to monitor some Exchange counters on my Windows 2000 Small Business
Server. The Microsoft Exchange IS service does not currerntly have
performance counters enabled. So, I ran the WIndows 2000 resource kit tool
called "EXCTRLST.exe" which allows you to "enable" performance monitoring on
various objects simply by clicking the box there... SO I found the
"MSExchangeIS" service in the list and clicked the "Performance Counters
Enabled" box. If I go into the Performance monitor, I can select the
associated performance counters right there to monitor.
However, if I use the "Health" application to create a new performance
counter under a "Data Group" I created, and select the "MSExchangeIS
(MsExchangeIS)" object , there is no instances that show up at all, when I
click on the 'Browse" button for instances.
If I just click OK, it adds the performance monitpor but errors out with an
"Enumeration Failed - object not found. Data Collector is misconfigured"
error.
Do I need to renoot my server after enabling performance counters using the
EXCTRLST utility for this to work?? (even though it has enabled them in the
registry)

Accept mail relay from IP
I need to know how to accept mail relay from an ip address on a server
that is within the domain, but now within the local server. The web
hosting server periodically sends mail to our customers, but, right
now, the mail is not going out. It was suggested to me that the web
hosting server's ip address is somehow blocked by smallbiz2000, so the
mail isn't going out.
If someone could point me in the right direction I would be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

100% CPU time (dredger.exe & Health Monitor)...
OK, I've done a quite a few SBS 2000 installs over the years.
Last week a server blew up (pretty much literally). The PSU exploded -
the mobo was taken out, and all hard disks trashed. The only salvaged
hardware was the DVD writer (even the floppy disk drive was destroyed).
So I've rebuilt a temp server. And can I get a clean SBS install
working? Not really.
I downloaded the trial version of Acronis True Image (didn't work on
this machine), and then a trial version of Paragon Drive Backup - which
works brilliantly.
During my installs I made a number of images. Some of the scenarios I
tried:
* installing SBS ontop of the W2KS install, as is
* installing SBS ontop of a fully updated W2KS install (SP4 + all
updates
* and most things in between.
Every single SBS install ended up with dredger.exe hammering away at
100% (yes, I left things overnight even to see if it would settle).
The SBS install goes like this after it does its final reboot - putting
updates (Exchange, SQL Server, ISA, ISA FP1 etc etc, other updates),
incrementally on, does not rectify anything. (No connection to the
internet was made to do any updates, nor during the install).
I checked the NICS, and swapped slots, and swapped the NIC's re internal
and external to SBS.
I configured the NICS so that they were not in the 169... range
(default) when the SBS install proceeded (per the readme).
I just don't know what's causing it. I've read the Googled info - none
of it helped.
Removing Health Monitor has *sorta* helped. Dredger.exe still ran at
100%, so I renamed it so it couldn't fire up at all. Then svchost runs
at 100% instead. I used Sysinternals pskill.exe to take the processes
out - and this has temporarily sorted the problem.
So at present, I have a temp server that is working, but on every reboot
I have to take out the offending svchost running at 100%. And I have no
nice management interface (which I can do without, as the new server
will be sorted in the next week or two anyway).
So while a resolution to this install problem is not a great issue, I'm
wondering what the hells going on (anyway). Any ideas anyone?

Limit concurrent logins & access server console for basic user adm
I want to limit some users (students in a small private college) to one login
at a time.
1. Limit some users logon to one only at a time. I downloaded llogin.exe
(had to download Netframework 1.1 maybe I should download NF 2??) went to
install & was asking for Server 2003! This just seems a lot of work just to
limit user logons.
2nd thing I want to do is to give two managers (using their login on their
desktop) remote desktop access to the server console within the LAN
environment (not dial-up or Internet access) to do basic USER administration
tasks ie add users/change passwords/limit userspermissions etc.
I managed to add the 2 managers to Server Operator's group but don't know
how to access the server console from the client computers (managers' PC's)
assuming this is the right thing to do.

Vanished Mail
Messages to a handful of domains fail to be delivered. The logging was

netgear vpn - can't see shares
I have a sbs 2000 server with windows 2k sp 4 on a small office lan with a
netgear prosafe vpn firewall router that provides access to the Internet.
This SBS machine used to be setup as a gateway/firewall running ISA server
and using VPN. VPN worked that way but was extremely slow and the required ms
firewall client & IE proxy settings were a nuisance to laptop users with home
networks.
So I introduced this netgear hardware firewall to improve the situation. ISA
server has been removed via add/remove programs from the SBS server. The
second NIC and RRAS has been disabled. The internal NIC of the SBS server is
setup like this:
ip: 10.0.0.2
mask: 255.255.0.0
gateway: 10.0.0.1
dns: 10.0.0.2
DNS is setup as a forwarder on the SBS server with the ISP's name servers
listed.
DHCP and WINS is running on the SBS server. DHCP is disabled on the Netgear
router. The Netgear router's internal ip address is 10.0.0.1
Problem is, I can connect to the lan from a remote client using Netgear's
client software fine. I can map drives to two other servers on the office lan
but not the SBS 2000 machine. I am using local lmhosts and hosts files on the
remote client to resolve names. I can ping the SBS server but that's all. I
get error 53 if I try to use 'net use' or 'net view' at the command prompt. I
get "network path can not be found" if I try to map the drive through windows
explorer. I have tried specifiying a valid domain account including the
administrator account. In windows explorer, it will return and ask for a
valid domain account if I give it an invalid one, but it will still throw up
the error "network path can not be found."
I am testing with two remote clients: one is a windows xp pro workstation,
the other is a windows 2000 sp4 laptop. The laptop has been joined to the
domain while connected to the internal lan and I am attempting to connect via
vpn with a cached domain user account. I get the same results with both
clients. The local network I am using uses a 192.168.1.x address scheme. I
have also tried connecting via dial-up with the laptop.
I am two months and three long weekends into this problem and have exhausted
the troubleshooting steps to find the issue. There are no software firewalls
involved. I have tried disabling virusscanners and the remote hardware
firewall which is a linksys router. Any ideas as to what to check would be
greatly appreciated. Tag: forex business Tag: 179408

Critical security hotfix causes event log warnings
I started getting Application warnings shortly after I installed the
critical hotfix KB 925902 on my SBS 2000 server and restarted. They
continued every 5 minutes apart until I uninstalled the hotfix a week later.
Troubleshooting articles I found all suggested that the cause was some form
of corruption in the security database. As directed, I ran "esentutl.exe /q
C:\WINNT\security\database\secedit.sdb". I got no errors. I have had no
problems looking at and changing security policies.
What's the underlying cause of the problem? How do I fix this so that I can
keep the hotfix installed?
Is there a better newsgroup for this question?
The SBS 2000 Server is running Exchange and SQL. All are on current service
packs.
Thanks,
Joe M

Constantly Running Low on Disk Space
Up till recently we have been keeping a constant 40% ish free disk space on
the C drive. Now the server over a couple of days runs down to 0%. Exchange
DB's\logs, user folders etc are all on a seperate partition. If we reboot the
server we regain the disk space back again. If I look at any of the folders
there does not seem to be any dramatic increase in sizes to explain the loss
of free space.

Is there any other way to do a swing migration other than purchasing a

Also, can I manually do some backup of this onto a tape somehow and restore

Adding SBS2000 CALS without Floppy Controller on server board
We have a number of SBS2000 servers to be replaced that must remain SBS2000
at tis point. New Intel server boards (eg. S5000PSL) do not have FDD
controllers - we use a USB FDD for installation requirements. It appears you
cannot install an SBS2000 CAL on anything but a true hardware FDD - I believe
the installation has to be able to address the FDD port in hardware. Using a
USB FDD, and a few other attempts, results in a message that the floppy may
be corrupt (not the case).
It appears this is a known problem amongst the news groups - but no real
solutions.
Would be appreciative of any suggestions from someone that may have resolved
this problem.

Configuring a new server.
My customer has some problems with his server, and we have determine to fix
it, but installation of is SBS 2000 comes up as a question for me... he is
using internet and has 7 physical PC's attached to the server. He can not
afford to be down at all... so, my question is... does SBS 2000 wizard works
the same as configuring NAT for internet and Active Directory as well like
for SBS 2003?
In other words, if I install SBS 2000 back unto the server will a wizard
allow me to tell it to set it up for NAT (to access internet) like it does
for SBS 2003?
I appreciate a prompt response. Thanks! Tag: forex business Tag: 179363
Login profile changed
A user has been logging into the server via Terminal Services as user MyUser
and her profile has been MyUser within Documents and Settings. Now all of a
sudden whenever she logs in, the server creates MyUser.Domain. She loses her
desktop and everything else. If I delete MyUser.Domain, W2000 just creates it
again. I can't fool it into using MyUser by renaming MyUser.Domain. Other
users are not affected and continue to use their own folders without the
dot-domain. Can anyone tell me what happened? Thanks... Tag: forex business Tag: 179361
SBS 2000 CAL install
i am trying to install SBS 2000 Cals on a new intel server, specifically with
an intel S5000psl Motherboard. This board does not have an on board floppy
controller. I have used a usb floppy to do the initial SAS drivers in the
beginning of the SBS 2000 install. I am now tring to install the SBS CALs,
but when i do, i get the following error:
>This disk may be damaged, write protected, or an illegal copy. The write
> protect tab must be in the writeable position. This error message will
> occur if this is a copy and not the original disk. This disk cannot be
> used on a LS-120 drive.
Can any one help please, and no i will not go to 2003, because of the
applications needing to run on this server. (they dont runn on 2003 yet).

PCSWA. Tag: forex business Tag: 179357
changing admin password
I have SBS 2000 and want to change the SBS password but have been told that
if you do it in the normal way it does not filter through properly and has to
be changed in a number of places in order to work.
can you advise of the sequence?

closing or stealthing ping port in sbs 2000
Can you point me in the right direction to close or stealth the port
responsible for ping utility as the symantec site indicates this is open.
would it need to be open if I was using a non NAT ADSL configuration? Tag: forex business Tag: 179349
need to install fax service on SBS 2000 in 2007
So two years ago we installed the windows installer 3.0 and can't remove it
now to install the fax service. See kb 899748
So how do I do it NOW....
We are going to be moving to SBS 2003/2007 in approx 7 months but in the
mean time I need this working NOW. The knowladge base artical 899748 which
was written in July of 05 says to un-install the installer. Well back then
that would have been easy. But with the 70+ patches and updates that have
since been rolled out since that time it no longer valid information. I do
NOT want to even attempt to uninstall them all and get screwed, hacked or
have it just suddenly have the server NOT work anymore because one or more of
the roll backs causes problems with something else that has also been
installed in the last two years.
There has to be a way currently to install this service ASAP.
Thanks

remote start print spoller on server
All,
Is there a nice simple way to give a User on a W2k prof. machine a way
to restart the print spooler on a SBS 2k box?
I don't know why, but the spooler seems to be suffering from 'creeping
death' at this site..
One by one the printers stop printing. - Can be over a period of an hour
of two.
Restarting spooler service on the Server restores things.

Domain Controller Down
This, to me, is pretty odd and I have no clue what is going on..
I am working with a client who has SBS 2000, today, a user attempted to log
on and got an error that the domain controller was down. Other users could
connect fine. The network connection appeared to be OK. After several hours
of poking around, I came up empty. I rebooted the server, and now a second
user is having a similar problem. Can't logon, locally, or on the network.
Then, by chance, I unglugged the network cable from the PC, and was able to
logon, then plugged the network cable back in and all was good with the
world. After seeing this work, I tried the same thing on the second PC, but
this one would still not logon. When I rebooted the first one, same issue.
If I unplug the network cable, then logon, then plug it back in, it seems to
work, but not every time.
I am sure this is indicative of something and hope that someone can
enlighten me.

Best way for 2 SBS networks to talk to each other
Hello all,
I know that 2 SBS servers cannot reside on the same network. I have 2 SBS
servers one SBS2k the other SBS2k3 on different networks sharing a single
router to the internet. The SBS2k3 network has a web presences with a static
IP address the SBS2k does not. I would like the 2 network to talk to each
other in order to transfer data between them and possibly allow outside field
people for company SBS2k to communicate with their network. How is the best
way to do this? Company SBS2k doesnot want a static IP address. If you need
further info let me know. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

KB 925902 causes SceCli 1202 warning events every 5 minutes
I started getting Application warnings shortly after I installed the
critical hotfix KB 925902 on 4/9 at 12:27AM and restarted. They stopped
after I uninstalled the hotfix. The SBS 2000 Server is running Exchange and
SQL. Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Any ideas?
Thanks,
