As the subject says, firt I wanna to send greeting to all of the
participiants of this group.

We are the firm situated in Dubrovnik, Croatia which has recently purchased
a Windows 2003
SMB Server Premium edition (Academic Release).
We moved from our email pop account to excange and establish local domain.
Could you people help me with this stuffs:

1) How can I register a SMB with MS to get a tech support.?
2) How can I install ISA firewall clients on the machines?
3) How can I encrease manage security log setting for each workstation in
domain?
4) How can I manage synchronization setting (eg. some of our laptop
workstations are for some
reason going in offline mode?)

MS software are well documented, and there are lot of stuff on groups, net
but I want to
hear what are the best practice to manage first two or three basics steps to
configure SMB to work
correctly (e.g. http://companyweb are not working-> says bad request)

Also I must point that I (as possible administrator of SMB 2003) did not
installed it, it has be done
by the company who sold us a Fujitsu-Siemens server, and they have not
finished all the work.

Thanky you in advance..

SBS 2003 you mean?

First off register using passport though this site and join that community
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/sbs/community/newsgroup.mspx

ISA Server/firewall clients
http://msmvps.com/kwsupport/archive/2004/06/06/7670.aspx

Edit the group policy setting to adjust the security logs

Offline for Outlook? This is normally either a profile issue ..or..
adjust the power settings so that NIC doesn't go into sleep mode.

Well, someone has to say it, so it may as well be me.

If the business is running on the Academic Release of SBS as you
indicate, and unless you are a school, you are in violation of the End
User License Agreement and the business is in jeopardy of prosecution
and fines. The liability to the company far exceeding the saving in
using the cheaper but inappropriate version of the software. I'd suggest
you get and install a non-academic copy of SBS.

If you're in violation of EULA you'll find it difficult, if not
impossible to get help from Microsoft should you ever need it, and I'm
sure no-one on these newsgroups would condone or support your continuing
violation.

Yes, that's why I posted.

As I understand it Firm/Firma means Company or Business,
so unless they are a Teaching Academy....

Frano,
Sorry if it seems we are being hard on you/your organization but in order
for you to get the kind of support you need, its important to have the right
software

The academic release is pretty inexpensive and so I can understand why a
group like yours would be looking to go that way, but actually Microsoft has
what they call not for profit or Charity pricing and is some cases will even
give the software away. Your software distributor may not be aware.

As for installing the ISA client, you should find a folder called mspclnt on
the server ( I apologize I'm not at a server to give you the exact location)
and just double click setup

What are you wanting to log with regard to the workstations?? What folders
they access, when they logon and logoff. If you can be more specific about
what you want to do, we can be more specific in our help

What are you trying to synch on the laptops...again lots of details will be
helpful.

Thank you for your responds first.
Regarding licences I have checked it and everything is OK.

I figoured out what happens. Strange thing. The group policy for logs is
that when the logs are full a items older
than seven days might be deleted. But somehow some wrkstations exceeded a
512 Kb for a log file and the system
was old a 5 days and server could not wipe old events becouse there was no
events older than 7 days.

Tip for all -> Before installing and implementing new solution be aware of
this feature which might be issued.

Only My Documents. Now it is OK, it was some user issuse again...

Also one question why is not working http://companyweb. I get a error -> Bad
Request..
I will ask once again as I have i my first post..
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
MS software are well documented, and there are lot of stuff on groups, net
but I want to
hear what are the best practice to manage first two or three basics steps to

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

In other words how can you check if SBS 2003 is well (proven) configured.
Throw away a documentation's
I wanna hear a real life xperience...

Regards...

There are two websites you should become very familiar with!
www.smallbizserver.net
www.sbslinks.com
http://www.sbs-rocks.com/articles.htm

You must get the company to finish the install
Then see if you still get the message with bad request with the company web
