we have a major problem with the amount of space being
used by some files in the following location C:\Program
Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata
in this location there are hundreds of 5mb text documents,
there is also a file named priv1.edb which is a huge
1.25gb.
we need to free space urgently. I am told this has
previously been done by deleting the older 5mb text
documents from this location, apparently this has worked,
but i really dont see it as a good soloution.
can anyone advise me the best way to solve this problem
and manage it in future.
does anyone else have such huge files in this folder?
thanks
Anna

Hi Annabelle,

Seems to me you aren't doing Exchange aware Backups, as this would flush
those transactionlogs automagically. Check out www.smallbizserver.net, SBS
2000.

As Marina said, a full Exchange backup will clear out the log files. Even
NTBACKUP will do this (as long as it has the Exchange management tools
installed on the backup server). But you need to backup both the Mailbox
store and the Public Folder store, even if you aren't using it.

Hi Annabelle,

In NTBackup, drill down to Microsoft Exchange Server till you can check the
Microsoft Information Store. That should do it.

Hi Annabelle,

1,25 Gb for the Priv is not that bad. It contains all the mailboxes.
