I have an SBS2000 setup with 10 clients (XP and W98) conected via a single
netgear 16 port switch. I have just added two new W98 clients. Users can log
on fine, access server files and Internet. Email comes in to outlook as
normal but When they select 'new' in Outlook and 'to' for access to the
global address list the the following error comes up 'network problems are
preventing connection to the microsoft exchange server'

I have changed network cables, network cards and tried different ports on
the switch and the server has ben shut down and restarted but this hasn't
helped. Users can reply to emails that come in normally but they cant send
any new post via the GAL.

The SBS2000 has 25 licenses in total. None of the other clients have this
problem only the new ones and they were added using the client set up disk.

Any ideas folks,
Cheers, David

Hi David,

Got WINS installed on the server? W98 still needs that. Also options 044 and
046 (0x8) should be set in DHCP-server, Scope options.
Do you possibly have the restrictanonymous setting in the serverregistry set
to 2? Put it back to 0 or 1.
