    - Global address list Hi, SBS2003, when I add a new contact, with an external SMTP address, this does not show uo in the global adress list, as it used to with SBS2000.     - OT: backup options Hi, We currently have a Dell PowerVault DDS 4 Tape backup drive. We are using 20GB naitive capacity tapes but are on the threshold of running out of space. I have looked on-line and haven't found any larger tapes. Are there any? If not, any suggestions on what to do? (we are currently doing a full backup, which works well. I am hesitant to do incremental backups). I'd prefer to keep the tape drive but if there are much better solutions out there, I am open to suggestions.     - Paging File Error I have recently taken over the administration of a SBS 2000 server and the administrator console is telling me the server has the following critical error. Critical - 6/12/2005 3:48:14 PM - Paging File Error Code (from WMI) != 0 Paging File : Critical condition. (WMI Status: 8 ) Has anybody else experianced this and how is it rectified, i have tried searching the MS Knowledge Base but to no avail?     - There are currently no logon servers available to service the logo Hi, I have just re-installed SBS2000 on a new box. I have just been testing it. Initially everything was fine, workstation could logon etc, except now while workstation still logs in, whenever I try to access Mapped Server Drive I get "There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request" I am also having trouble with Exchange, it tells me that there is no Exchange server available?     - Strange IP Address in ISA Server Summary Greetings! Running SBS 2000. There are IP addresses that appear under "Traffic by users" in ISA daily summary reports that don't belong to any client in the domain. My clients are all assigned 10.x.x.x ip addresses; the foreign ip addresses vary from 68.x.x.x to 70.x.x.x. Logs and performance counters don't show unusual activity such as spikes in processor usage or long qeues of odd emails in Exchange. When I ping these addresses, I get replies back. What are some things I can do to find out what's going on? How can I find whose ip addresses these belong to using command line? Have I been hacked? Spam? Thanks.     - CC Duplicates If any of my users receive a mail with CC addresses specified, the server instantly forwards/relays the message to the CC Recipient. Consequently the CC recipient receives two copies of the mail. Both appear to have come from the original sender however examination of the headers reveal that one came from the originator whilst the other was despatched by our server.     - Sbs2003 users outlook permissions question Hello, I have a client who is running sbs2003 and one of the users wants to enable some of the other users to see her inbox but not the subfolders within this. I have tried several things and everytime I get the same result which is people being able to see her inbox as well as the sunbfolders so do I need to make a change on the server or via the outlook client.     - Problem Sending Email to AOL Recipients Hello, SBS2K. I am having problems sending mail to AOL recipients. When I try to send a message to any address on the aol.com domain, shortly after I send the message, I receive the following: This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification. THIS IS A WARNING MESSAGE ONLY. YOU DO NOT NEED TO RESEND YOUR MESSAGE. Delivery to the following recipients has been delayed. user@aol.com Now, let me provide a little background on my setup. I have a T-1 from my telephone company (Sprint) with a dedicated public IP address. I also have a web hosting company which provides us email services which I do not use. I have set up my DNS entries to have the MX records forward all mail to my domain to my server here in house. After reading a few threads, namely http://groups-beta.google.com/group/microsoft.public.backoffice.smallbiz2000/browse_thread/thread/a89dc87419bf0231/9818b36d9893deb4?q=aol&rnum=6#9818b36d9893deb4, I have looked at a few things and figured out what my problem is. I ran a DNS report and it told me I have no reverse DNS entries for my MX records. I am trying to contact Sprint to request they add PTR records for me, but who knows how long that will take. Also, I am going to move my T-1 to a new provider in a few months so I will need to do this again. That said, is there anything I can do with my web hosts email servers to help get this mail through. After reading that thread, I see the idea to create a new SMTP connector to handle this. How do you go about doing this? Also, do I have to use Sprint for this or can I use my web hosts email servers. Finally, though unrelated, someone may know. Is there any way that I could configure my Exchange server and/or my DNS records so that my mail comes to my server, but when the server is down, the mail goes to my web hosts' servers and when the server comes back up, they flow down to it. Although the server is never down for more than a few minutes, it would give me some piece of mind knowing that my mail is never going to bounce. Any ideas? There you can choose "Remote workplace" (or similar - I´m from germany) (It´s the same like http://intername.de/remote) When i try to connect, there appears a list, where I can choose the servername (or in another menue the workstations), but then after a short time, I´ll get an "VB Script Error". What can I do now.     - sbs2000 needs to be replaced with fresh install with sbs2003 Hello All I have a SBS2000 install which has been virused and tweaked back and forth , and now it seems to have some strange behaviours. Therefor I would like to delete the install and do a fresh install of SBS 2003. This is a 25 user site and I would like to avoid losing all the domain information ,so that once installed the users PCs will not need to be readded to the server. I have got currently a 2nd server running win2003 acting as a Domain controller and I was hoping that I could use this to maintain domain information ,while I reinstall the sbs2000 and then the sbs2003 could suck this information to reinstate at least the computer accounts . I realise it is probably best to recreate the user accounts on the SBS , unless you guys suggest otherwise.     - Trend too expensive - what is a good replacement? I am curious if anyone else has run into the new Trend Micro CSM for SMB. We previously renews around $600 for 50 workstations and now they want about $2300. This prompted me to start checking out other solutions. I did look in old posts but they seem to all be from before Trend raised their prices - back when it was a good deal. I am not considering Norton because of previous experience - granted it was with older products but everytime I see a Norton app it seems they want to be everything to everyone and the client is loaded down with too many apps and caused problems with other apps. We had previously used McAfee ASAP but that caused printing problems and each client updated from the internet on it's own rather then from a server on the LAN. Also didn't like that there was no way to install it except from the internet. So I am hesitant on McAfee but open if it seems to offer what I need at a reasonable cost and reasonable administration. I am experimenting with GFI MailEssentials and MailSecurity for antivirus and spam blocking at the server but I am having a hard time finding desktop protection I like. I would love to find antivirus and anti-spyware in one app but that doesn't seem to exist. Even if they are from the same vendor they still are separate apps. I am a minimalist when it comes to installing stuff on desktops and I like things to be as efficient as possible. So I would love some recomendations if you have them. I am not set on GFI for the above but I do like them so far - especially the Beyesian scanning on the MailEssentials. My requirments are as follows: > Compatible withe SBS 2000 and SBS 2003 (will be upgrading in Oct this > year) > All together must provide anti-virus, anti-spam and anti-spyware. > All mail protection (virus and spam) must be at the server and integrate > with Exchange > Optional Mail protection at the client for POP3 clients is preferred > Desktop protection (virus and spyware) must be installed and managed from > the LAN with a single server that updates itself and then updates the > clients > Must be able to install desktop protection even if the client doesn't > authenticate to the SBS server (other clients in the same subnet but > logging into a different server) > Desktop software must be as small and efficient as possible - must not > significantly increase startup time or slow down the machine during normal > usage. > Must be able to manage client's permissions - i.e. prevent > unloading/disabling/configuring of client software.     - Shared Fax not showing fax header information I have Shared Fax installed on my SBS 2000 machine and it has been functioning perfectly for 2 years except for the fact that when the fax is received, the fax header information is being cut off making it impossible to read.     - email missing, POP Connector hi, I wonder if anyone has come across this problem before. Some users had reported over time that they did not receive email that outside people (their customers) had sent to them. The users had no idea of such email until they had to countercheck some matters. Obviously not a good thing. Going thru Admin mailbox, I found that among all the spoofs and spam, were many NDRs to external email addrs. Checking some of these (open the NDR, click Resend), I find that these appear to be NDRs being sent from the SBS to the external users but had failed, i.e. the NDRs themselves became NDRs. The Admin mailbox doesn't have the 'original' NDR (Exchange is set to send a copy of NDR to Admin) but the NDRs of NDRs. These NDRs have 2 text attachments. One is the transaction with Exchange (SMTP 550 etc), the other appears to be the email header of the NDR that failed to make it out of SBS. Many of these header texts appear to contain legit emails, by looking at the sender (external) addr, recepient (valid internal addr), subject (appears to be genuine business topic in a common format/structure for subject). Some other NDRs I'm not so sure about, but could also be genuine mail that failed to get thru and also failed to bounce out, these include from mailing lists, PocketPC.com etc. This header text shows email being d/l from POP, there's some trace of where it was before POP. It doesn't show email failing to get to the internal email acct, that's the unusual thing - it looks exactly like an email that successfully made it through (the header that is). However, not all emails are being affected, eg. many emails appear to be affected during the first POP download on Monday morn as the SBS is off over weekend, yet some email make it thru later and then some other email failed the same way in the afternoon. How do I diagnose, log and fix this? I would be grateful for any ideas or clues. This is a SBS2000, 2 Nics, ISA, 1GB ram, 2xOpteron, using POP Connector to download and SMTP out to ISP's SMTP configured in SBS SMTP connector. The only change made recently was to install Symantec AVEE ver10 which includes File system scanner and the mailscanner (SAVCE and SMSMSE). I don't think SAVEE is the cause though.     - Unable to open default email folder I just set up a new user on SBS2000. When opening outlook, I get a message that says: "Unable to open default email folder. You do not have permission to log on. Would you like to open your default file system folder instead?" This user does have a valid password and can access the server.     - Upgrade SBS2000 -> SBS2003 hangs after 1st reboot Hello, I tried to upgrade from SBS2000 to 2003, but after the first reboot during the installation, the process hangs. No hard disk and no cdrom activity. I waited for 30 minutes, then I gave up. The green dots in the lower righthand corner are moving but the status bar in the lower lefthand corner isn't. In the upper lefthand corner is a green dot at "Collecting Information" and another green one at "Dynamic Updates". At "Preparing Installation" is a red circle. I have the german version, so I am not sure about the translation but I am sure, you know what I mean. ;-) I need the server on Monday and have no idea what the problem could be. I hve no idea where to look. You can't do much. Are there any logfiles? Can I do anything while the process hangs? Any hints?     - Exchange e-mail size settings are not taking affect I am unsuccessfully trying to set up e-mail size limits in Exchange. My current settings are: Global Settings>Message Delivery: Sending Message size: 7000KB Receiving Message size: 7000KB Defualt virtual SMTP server Limit message size to: 40000KB User Exchange settings>Delivery Restrictions Sending Message size: 15000KB Receiving Message size: 15000KB Yet I am unable to send or receive any messages over 7MB. There is one thing which is a bit odd about my configuration which that I have 2 SMTP virtual servers. One which is active and the other which is called old and is not started. I have been told it is not "nice" to Exchange to delete from the "M" drive.     - Unexpected Shutdown, Event ID 6008 We have a Dell Poweredge 2300 server, running SBS 2000. We are having a problem where the server randomly freezes. This is generally, but not limited to, when everyone has gone home - so late evening, early morning. There is no discernible pattern, for instance, there is no cleaner coming in at 10:00pm and switching something off. Nothing is being recorded in Event Viewer, all we have is the about event id when the server is rebooted. As the crashes happen out of hours, no blue screen is being seen - the monitor has gone to sleep and cannot be woken - I don't see this as being the problem, as I'm typing this I would put money on the monitor having switched off with no effect to the server. The last one was at 6:10am this morning, about 20 minutes before anyone arrived for work. Any help or advice would be most appreciated.     - Anybody Using GAIM? I want to use GAIM instant messenger client for both MSN and Yahoo IM, but I can't get it to work with (or through) ISA. I've tried a whole heap of different proxy settings in GAIM but none of them seems to work. Both Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger work fine with my ISA setup. TIA, NeilH -- "...     - Login box appears when using IE for customer site Hi All We deal with a customer in the far east. Ever since my users complain they have been getting lots more spam. Now I notice that when they open IE they get a log in box. The usernam is blank, but if you scroll down it then lists this customers web site and appends our user name i.e. www.W1mboxHK.com\Tanyac. If they just cancel they can carry on browsing, but everytime they go to a new link they find the pesky box re-appearing. Is this spyware/malware or possibley something more serious? The user ed@mydomain.com sent an email to an external user alyne@outside.com and CC to himself.     - Exchange on SBS 2000 won't receive mail I exchange drive got full and shutdown exchange. I deleted the log files and still couldn't mount mailstore so I ran the eseutil -r and -p and was able to restore exhange mailstore. I ran icw and I was able to send e-mail but not receive any. when I perform and online test with "This test will connect to a mail server via SMTP, perform a simple Open Relay Test, verify the server has a reverse DNS (PTR) record. It will also measure the response times for the mail server. If you don't know your mail server's address, start with a MX Lookup." the results i get are: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Also I have notice in the administrator and other profiles there are e-mail I can't delete. I re-installed Exchange with the SBS2000 setup and then ran ICW again but still can't receive e-mails and can't delete e-mails from inbox. kind of desparate I would be greatfull for help.     - VPN Access My question is in relation to VPN on SBS 2000. Users connect to the server via VPN and use RDP to connect to the desktop. We have a 1.5Mbs/256K broadband connection with about 15 internal users and few remote ones, when a remote user logs in it's ok for a while then it slow down and frequently disconnects. The remote user is located in another country and has superfast broadband. I suspect that when Internet traffic in the office is high this is when the connection slows and disconnects. Is there a way to ensure that the VPN connection receives appropriate bandwidth? Are there any other setting that I can tweak? What speed Internet connection is appropriate to have this user operating at a comfortable level. Can any-one suggest a better way? Also occasionally we get the VPN server is not available, failed authentication attempts due to bad username and password when its not and attaching to the RPD pc sometimes says there are no connections available?     - POP3 Receiving Message Size Hello, My previous hosting service restriced the size of incoming messages to 15MB. My current hosting service does not provide "any" restriction on message size (actually it is about 100MB). Bearing in mind we use the SBS POP3 Connector, is there any advantage to my configuring a maximum "receiving message size"? After all, the message will have to be downloaded to generate an NDR. The only advantage i can see would be to prevent the someone's inbox from being filled as a result of receiving an abnormally large message.     - Quick Terminal Server Question I havent configured a terminal server to our sbs2000 server in a while and I have a quick ?. I have sbs2000 along with a server 2000 box in terminal mode. How is the licening server suppost to work. I installed the licensing on the sbs2000 box but how is the licensing acitvate handled? Do I actally have to contact microsoft inorder to do this or am I missing step since from what I understand I am allowed to use terminal server with the sbs2000 licenses correct?     - Folder redirection problem We use a Win2K SBS server with Win2K clients with most recent updates. On the server we have redirected the mydocuments folder in the policy. This works fine. However since a few days some clients all of a suden get the following message You are no longer connected to '%servername%' you may continue working offline. The connection is broken en comes only back when we choose to sync the offline maps. However this is strange because nothing changed. It seems to be a local problem with the client bacause when we log in with the same username on another computer it seems to work fine. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Hi there,

The COM+ Event System Service will not start.

Any ideas? This might be in conjunction with a problem that I am having with
my Network and Dial-Up connections. When I go into that folder I do not have
any icons in the box.
