OR MAYBE, _despite_ being bored one should be careful.

Work's been a bit slow this week, patching is down on the LoungeAN SO let's
play around a bit.

I think it was Wednesday night I installed GFI's 'Mail Security' trial, and
probably Thurs morn when I asked it to scan everything, incoming, outgoing,
and internal. With the default rules in place I suggest this is not a good
idea. Mail Security finished scanning my slow IO (ATA33) system some time
Friday. The near 1000 alert messages are OK (ctrl-a markasread) but the GB
of files it quarantined stopped Exchange due to space for both the databases
and the damned logfiles (another couple of GB) really cheesed me off, should
it not stop before consuming everything but 233KB of HDD? Glad it wasn't my
OS partition :-)

HEY, now all I gotta do is logon to the server and use Outlook to OK the
remaining 450 (I've already done several hundred) quarantined items BECAUSE
THE USELESS PIECE OF RUBBISH (sorry, I'm upset) DOESN'T HAVE A QUARANTINE
CONSOLE (that I can find) where I can 'bulk release' the items.

AND it seems to have blown Exchange's 'single instance storage', my exchange
DB has grown by near 100% due to this experiment.

GFI Mail Security may suit some people's/organisation's purposes but I doubt
I'll be implementing it anywhere.

Have you tried using the product's "Moderator client" to OK the high-volumes
of email?

To use the moderator client...see
http://support.gfi.com/manuals/en/msec8/approving.rejectingmailusingthemoderatorclient.htm

Start up the moderator client from the MailSecurity program group. The
client consists of a 2 pane interface, which allows you to quickly view all
quarantined messages.

That might be faster.

I ran the product for a little while and like you checked the box to check
everything :). Heck I even did it twice by mistake with a new product build
to experiment. Nothing like having people ask why their email was
quarantined from last winter.

Since then I uninstalled the Mail Security due to it messing up my
anti-virus vs-api, but I run their Mail Essentials app and have good luck.

gol darn,

tried that bit of funk before I quarantined everything, it was empty.

OH WELL, ya live, ya learn.

Now Echange is so busy importing all the stuff from quarantine I bet my best
move is gonna be 'down the pub'.

OH WELL, 90 MB of log files in 3min doesn't worry a man who put a spare 9GB
SCSI drive in.

I wonder what the other 489 quarantine items will add up to?
