Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer privileges on the system would be at less risk than users who operate with administrative privileges. <MBSA will NOT scan for ALL affected software on this> Yes. MBSA does detect if the update for this vulnerability is required for Office XP, Office 2003, Project 2002, Project 2003, Visio 2002, and Visio 2003. However, MBSA does not currently support the detection of several of the programs that are listed in the Affected Software and Affected Components section of this security bulletin. For detailed information about the programs that MBSA currently does not detect, see Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 306460. If you have installed any of the programs that are listed in the Affected Software and Affected Components section of this security bulletin you may have to manually determine if you have to install the required update. For example, a Windows 2000 or Windows NT 4.0 system that has installed Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 will need to install the Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 security update and MBSA will not detect the missing update in these configurations. Set your gateway devices (routers, firewalls, etc.) to a "deny all" setting as the default for inbound traffic, then explicitly allow the ports needed to support your business or operational processes. 2. Use egress filtering to block all outbound traffic not sourced from the subnet behind a particular edge router. This is just good common sense, but so many network administrators do not take this simple step. 2. Disable HTML rendering in your email clients. Some email clients have a feature that blocks inline images. If so, turn it on. (Blocking .jpg or .jpeg file attachments is a waste of time. Don't do it.) 3. Likewise, disable the preview panel in Outlook and Outlook Express. 4. Do not use Word as your email editor. Use Outlook's built-in editor. Once you do start patching for MS04-028, do not forget to patch twice - once for Microsoft Windows and once for Microsoft Office. Microsoft's statement about WindowsXP SP2 being not vulnerable is a bit misleading.     - SBS2000 shared fax email notification and routing problem Greetings: I have set up SBS shared fax to route incoming messages to a specific mail user. While faxes appear to come in and leave the server successfully, no fax message arrives via mail, and no mail notification appears to happen. I have reviewed Q283072, but there's painfully little insight on SBS shared fax issues in MS's knowledgebase. Any suggestions?     - ISA Event I am new to sbs and i need some help with publishing 0n isa. I keep gettig the error below in the event viewer: Web Proxy service failed to bind its socket to 192.168.4.9 port 443. This could be caused by another service that is already using the same port or by a network interface card that is not functional. The error code specified in the Data area of the event properties indicates the cause of the failure. For more information about this event, see ISA Server Help. I looked on the web for help and did a netstat -an and this is what i get: TCP 192.168.4.9:443 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING. How do i stop this error. I found an article to disable socketpooling on the sbs if isa and iss are on the same box but it didn't seem to do any good. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Jack.     - Trend Micro Hi We have upgraded our CSM Suite to the new SMB product but cannot access the management console to sign in. Keeps coming up with HTTP 407 Proxy Authentication Required and asks for a username & password. The Administrator credentials don't work. Is there a way of stopping authentication for this and also do we have to create packet filters so that SMB can update automatically from the Trend update server. Our server is SBS 2000 with ISA.     - Microsoft Shared Fax gets bogged down on long distance faxes The firm that I work at is using Microsoft Shared Fax Console on a Windows 2000 PRO machine. All of the other workstations in the office send faxes through the one machine (all running Windows 2000 PRO). Sometimes, when we send faxes (mostly long distance) the fax will not go through. For a while, none of the long distance faxes were going through. Most commonly, the Fax Console gets a busy signal. All of these faxes send perfectly through our manual fax machine.     - Help with csrss.exe large data send problem - Turning to the SBS pros Ok, I'm turning to the SBS pros for advice on a problem I'm having at a client's office. Everyone knows that collectively we are the best in the business. Well, not everyone knows. I just inerited this client and was suprised to find a computer on the internet with no firewall or AV. The computer's IP was in the router's DMZ list. Anyway, the network shortcomings have been resolved. There are 4 computers, and all have been scanned and cleaned with Mcafee Stinger, Mcafee VirusScan Enterprise 8.i, and Norton Antivirus 2003.I have also run AdAware and Search and Destroy on all computers and cleaned spyware. However, this one computer persists in sending huge amounts of data out randomly throughout the day. It is enough to make their VPN applications fail because of bandwidth issues. I installed Zone Alarm on the trouble PC and after searching through the logs, I noticed that csrss.exe wants outbound access persistantly. With Zone Alarm installed, the problem seems to go away and yesterday they ran fine. Today, I disabled Zone Alarm and the problem popped up in the afternoon. I've researched csrss.exe virus traits but my scanners should pick up any of these known problems. Any advice on how to proceed?     - Cannot see shared printer on XP machine.... I am in a real conundrum (sp?) here... This should be real easy but for some reason - it isn't!!!! I have an XP Pro machine (SP1) and just installed an attached shared parallel printer (an HP LJ3330 MFP). The printer is set to shared and I am using the PCL 6 driver. When I log onto our Windows 2000 terminal server to add the printer so that term server users can print to it, I select "network" printer, and you are presented with a list of computers. I scroll down to the client XP machine that is supposed to have the shared printer attached and double click it. No printers show up at all! If I try the same thing from my own XP workstation, I get the same thing - no printers show up at all... I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the printer, rebooting the cleint PC and server, you name it I cannot figure out why this shared printer will not show up to be selected as a newtwork printer. I can not address it by name either. I even tried a completely different printer/drivers everything and no go. I figure there must be something wrong on that actual XP machine. I also checked all of the security settings and set wide open in case that was the issue. This machine belongs to our domain, and I can see it in the active directory and I can also see the printer there!! Has anyone ever saw this issue before?? If so, what was the fix??     - Isa 2000 and Exchange 2003 I have ISA 2000 SP1 and Exchange 2003 in a SBS Box. Exchange was working fine, I installed ISA and things started happening. First of all is a Dual home box connected to a router for the Internet and a Switch for Internal. When I installed ISA, Windows disabled the external Network connection. Then I enabled it, configure ISA, but still not working. I am wondering if there is a Manual or installatrio procedure for ISA and Exchange in the same box.     - Active Directory crash - SBS2003 Following installation of the latest hotfix, my SBS2003 server no longer serves. The DS log reports that the 'Active Directory was unable to establish a connection with the global catalog. Additional data error value 8430. The directory service encountered an internal failure. Internal ID 3200c45.' According to nltest, ntdsutil etc., it appears that the server is still around but the logs apprear to suggest that the domain controller has been promoted - roundabout the time the hotfix went in. Short of adopting a 'format c:, d:\setup' solution, is there an easy way of recovering the AD? To make my joy complete, the backup tape streamer has decided to fail and backups are therefore unavailable. Any advice gratefully received, thanks in advance.     - restore of Exchange pre-SP3 - help! I have a big problem. Had issues with our Exchange database, our backup was a couple of days old. So, I spent a good part of the day trying to get the corrupt database repaired. That failed, so I figured I'd go back to our backup tape. However, while trying to repair the database, I decided to install SP3 without knowing the consequences. Now when I do a restore from tape, it's saying the version of the logs do not match.     - Outlook 2003 not being updated when showing as connected One notebook user on a SBS2000 network has been upgraded to outlook 2003. All seemed well for a month and then mysteriously last week outlook messages stopped being updated. In the bottom right of outlook it shows as "Connected" but instead of showing the "All folders are up to date" message the time the folder was last updated is displayed.     - Microsoft Shared Fax on SBS 2000 stops receiving faxes We run microsoft shared fax on our SBS 2000 server. Every so often, a fax will come in and the fax machine hangs on it. There is a folder on the server, C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Shared Fax\Queue, that shows a file in the queue but the size is 0 kb. Every time this happens, if another fax comes in the fax service on the server won't pick up the fax. If I try restart the service, it will stop it but it won't restart it.     - Recommendations for adding a 2nd SQL Server I have an SBS 2000 network set up and running fine. We use the included SQL Server for a small Intranet... Scenario: I need to add a 2nd server (win2k?) with an enterprise version of SQL installed that a company wide software package will access. Only about 50% of the users log into the SBS server... the other 50% simply sit on the LAN (i.e. don't have internet access, e-mail, etc...) but will need to attach to the 2nd SQL Server (using SQL rights... not the server's).     - Size of exchange database sbs2003 Hey Guys Just a stupid question If i take a look at the total size of the user mail boxes under usage reports in system management under is says approx 9 gb in size, however when I look at the size of the edb and stm file they are nearly 16gb in size.     - Branch Office VPN Options I have spent some considerable time over the past few days searching for some tried-and-true recommendations for connecting one of my customer's main office SBS2000 system to a branch office, and have come up disappointingly short. I would appreciate any experience and recommendations from the community. Both main and branch offices have DSL Internet connections, with the main office operating through a standard SBS2000/ISA2000 system. The branch office PC's currently connect to the SBS system via the built-in WinXP PPTP VPN client. They would like to join the two networks with a site-to- site VPN, and take advantage of full client access (join the domain) for Exchange email and ISA Server filtering. This seems like a simple request, using any of the currently available VPN routers (Linksys RV042 would be the starting point). However, the documentation I've reviewed indicates that it is essentially impossible to connect the standard IPSec tunnel mode VPN of one of these routers to the ISA Server. Is that true? If this is such a major problem, what are other solutions to the problem, short of the expense of installing a second Windows server, possibly with ISA server, in the branch office? Isn't there a better way for my small business customer? What about a router-to-router VPN connection that somehow still leaves ISA in-place and functioning in the main office?     - Can't find POP3 connector? I wanted to make some changes to a users POP3 account but could not find the POP3 connector. It's been a while since I've done this and wasn't quite sure where it was. But I looked pretty carefully through the Exchange management directory (found the POP3 virtual server) but no connector.     - Login not working after XP SP2 I have upgraded our network workstations from Win 98 to New HP PC's with XP SP1. They were login fine but after upgrading to XP SP2, the login user name and password fails, although I could use all the resources on the server. When I login I could see the domain, but if I tried to login using user name and password from the domain controller, it denies access. I then login on to local computer using local user name and password and it works fine. It also remembers map drives etc. So althogh it's not a critical proble, I would love to have a solution.     - Adding domain users as local admin Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right group but I will try anyway. I am setting up Windows Xp users to a SBS 2003. I am trying to add the Domain users to the local Admin group but it keeps coming up with an error saying that it can't find the Domain Users. How do I fix this? I need to the user to be able to have local admin rights to their workstations. Also, how does the licencing work? I have installed SBS2003 which comes with 5 CALs.     - OWA is meaningles outside the office. Hi everyone: The location https:\\myserver\exchange\anyuser is meaningless outside the office local network. Yes, I tested from home and it did not work. It works if I get access via my office VPN connection from home. However, we want it to work from any browser. Also this has become important because I have discovered that Exchange Server Web access is not working properly in the following way. If persons in the office send email, it is immediately visible remotely using Exchange Server Web access. However, if persons outside the office send me email, it does not appear in the in-box through Exchange Server Web access at all, until after I access my account using Outlook Express at home or Outlook at the office. . How can I make exchange to see email sent from external domains all together with people from our domain. We also use apollohosting to host our email/website services. If I go to the web mail account in apollohosting I only see the external emails, not the emails that are sent withing our domain. How can I solve these 2 problems. Hi Bart,

Does it happen to all email or a specific domain? Have you run the ICW
wizard? How are you connecting to the internet?

I was happening to all. I found the problem, TW was
updating their DNS.

The reason might be that you mail server is the same as
your user login. if you change the users id on the server
under it mail tab to what ever it should be then you
should be abole to send and recieve
