This sounds like it's not an SBS, or else it's not being handled by the
requirements of SBS. You might take this question to the Exchange group, or
clarify exactly what the steps were to get from the original condition to
the current condition, including properly identifying the OS and machine
roles involved as you did this.
The initial implication is that you either didn't get the two Exchange
servers into a single domain, or that when you tried to make them
communicate, you failed to get the Exchange System Account properly
originated in the configuration you imported.....however you did that.
