Using SBS 2000/POP Beamer/Outlook 2003/windows 2000/Veritas server backup all
updates and upgrades applied

Added my 9th user about a month ago. All her external emails were coming in
to her outlook 4-6 hours late. Then it started happening to other users. A
week later backup of the exchange mailboxes began to fail, 2 days later the
back ups of the public folders failed. Then no could send or receive
internal email and couldn't access the public folders. It took 6 hours to
defrag the exchange files. Then everything was fine except the 9th user was
still getting their external emails 4 to 6 hours late. Added a 10th user and
his external emails are beginning to come in 4 to 6 hours late. Backup of
exchange has started to fail again. Any ideas????

LOL... what is normal... definately no errors ?

Seem to have sperate issues here...

1. User, is it XP with firewall switched on? I have seen this happen. As
troubleshoot exercise try turning off firewall. However I always recommend
firewall is on.

2. Exchange... is all diagnostic logging switched on in all its services ?
Then what does event viewer say. Remember to look in APPS and SYSTEM logs
and review the information entries not just the errors or warnings.

3. What backup errors are being reported for exchange. Which backup program
you using?

Event viewer all parts no errors. Yes all parts of exchange logging are on.
The users are on Windows 2000. Only one machine is on XP and that one is
fine.
Veritas 9 (has been running fine for 2 years)
this is the log from veritas.. The public folder is backing up fine at the
moment
Set type : BackupSet status : CompletedSet
description : Backup 0010
Resource name : \\CMR-SRV1\Microsoft Exchange MailboxesLogon
account : System Logon Account
Error : a000fe2d - The backup of the item is bad.

Thank you again for trying to help.

Can you post ipconfig /all for rogue workstations ?

What I am looking for is to ensure DNS is pointing to server.

Can you think back to what may have been done on server before errors on
workstation? Change of NIC, is binding order correct for example.

LOL is good. Stating the obvious is very very good. Just trying to be
concise so as not to bore you. As soon as I can get on the rogue workstation
I will post file. No hardware has been changed and no setting have been
changed. I just added a new user. The even stranger thing is the old user
on that workstation still works fine. Will check out Veritas support now.

Re: delay in email then crash by wendy

wendy
Sat Sep 10 19:38:01 CDT 2005

Good day puzzled,
Thanks. I may have found the problem. While I was on vacation the owners
nephew came in "to help" and activiated the sys admin mailbox and had every
notification
and event info sent to it. It had 250,000 emails in it each with an average
of 64kg of info. I just finished cleaning it out and am hoping this was the
"root" of my problem.
If not I will ipconfig on Monday after finishing sorting grapes. Thank you
again for your help and patience... Wendy
