OK
I have a client who would like an Intranet site hosted on their main server

They're using SBS 2000 and I'm not sure about anything else but more details can be found at http://www.scotweld.com/scotweldserver.jp

I have no idea where to start so I really need step-by-step details

Help appreciated

Regards
Stevie

Stevie,

I might suggest that you look into upgrading to SBS2003 - as Microsoft has
include Shareportint Services and other features to ease the development and
maintenance of an internal INTRAnet site for a company.

Is there anyway around this? Isn't 2003 a tad on the expensive side

I'm open to all ideas and suggestions

Off hand I don't really know of any step by step instructions on building an
intranet though I'm sure they're out there. If your client has SBS 2K then
they have IIS installed so that's your critical starting point for them to
access the site. If you want to get at it quickly, there a several template
intranets that can be found for free or low cost. VSOffice is one I've used
in the past to get something up quickly and I've been happy with the result.
You can purchase it without the customization code for as little as $30 and
it's only $400 to purchase it with the code so you can do whatever you want
with it. It can be found at http://www.vsoffice.com/ . There are others
available and I'd do a search under "intranet template" to find more.

I do agree with Kevin though that upgrading them to SBS 2K3 would be ideal
since all the work has been done for you and they'd even gain remote access
to their desktops. The upgrade has just been released in the last couple of
weeks and is only running $599. Not sure what's going on with CALs though
with the upgrade.

Best of luck,
