:I
I need to be able to allow users to install the client
applications (firewall, shared modem etc) when prompted
without giving them local admin rights. There are 30+
machines and cannot do this one by one as it'll take
ages. Is there a way to allow users to just install
Client Apps with elevated priviledges?

anyone who has an idea would be appreciated..

Hi Belinda,

Sorry, can't help myself: You could have done it by now on the sneakernet
yourself ;-)

Belinda

Have you tried to publish the apps but set the OU Group
policy to run with Elevated Privileges - This will install
the applications, but not affect the users ability to have
local admin rights.

The setting can be found in the GPO >Administrative
Tools>Windows Installer

Let me know how it goes!

Good Question Belinda! I have the same questions, I think.

When we set up our 4.5 SBS Server about 4 yrs ago, it came with Office 2000
which was automatically installed in the ClientApps folder. We are about to
bring a new SBS 2003 Server online and it has the same shared ClientApps
folder as did 4.5.

Some of the client PCs still use the Office 2000 application and therefore
have the need to access those setup files under Windows SBS 2003. I also
noticed there is a w2ksp4 and a wxpsp1 folder. All of our client PCs (30+)
are running W2K or XP Pro.

What is the procedure to preinstall Office 2000 in the SBS 2003 ClientApp
folder and how can I install xpsp2 so that it supersedes wxpsp1 when I reload
or add a new computer account to the system?

Thank You!

As we stated in the previous thread, legally, you probably don't have
license to install this with SBS 2003
Office 2000 packaged with SBS 4.5 would by most definitions be considered
OEM software. I would really read the End User License Agreement
Assuming it were legal you would simply do an administrative install of
Office 2000 in the same location on the SBS 2003 server

With regard to XP SP2, we believe there are some updates in the works which
are planned to take care of this for you. Thats all I can say about that,
a little patiences is all thats required.
