SBS2K hardware raid 6 drives in raid set. Three containers C:-10GB D:-20GB
E:-30GB (approx) These are SCSI drives and are approx 3 1/2 years old, well
used.

I received today a run chkdsk error on drive C: rebooted, ran chkdsk /f and
all seems OK no troubles seemed to show up. Since drive C runs across 5
drives (one is a hot spare) how can I check the specific health of the
individual of the 6 drives may be failing?

The utility that came with the raid controller should have some tools.
Sometimes you can see things from the Windows utility. Sometimes you
have to do it from the ctrl A or whatever the boot up keys are to get
into the utility at reboot.

If you tell the group what the raid controller card is someone may
have a definitive answer.

To add to what Jim said, the drive manufacturer probably has a utility that
runs from a DOS boot to check low-level drive integrity.

Jim,

The controller is a Dell PERC 3/DI I don't see any individual drive details
in Windows and do not have any Windows Based Dell Utilities installed. I've
seen the Press ??? to start SCSI utility note on boot up. I'll reboot
tomorrow AM and see what utilities there are. Any comments would be
appreciated.

You might be able to get some basic information from Open Manage Server
Administrator if you're running that. I would recommend calling Dell server
support and asking what drive diagnostic they recommend, only because they
change and upgrade them frequently. I got one sometime last year called
"Dell Elite Hard Drive Diagnostic."

In the SBS Administrator Console expand Computer Management (local) and then
expand Storage. You should see a node called "Disk Management (Dell
OpenManage Array Manager", click on it. The right pane should then open up
into two panes with a new tree on the left and a tabbed display area on the
right. Click on the Events tab to get ideas of what is going wrong. Wander
around the tree to find information on individual disks (hint: don't look
under disks, chase through arrays and PERC subsystems).

This should work for the default installation.
