    - SBS2k and TS Profile problem Hi All, I have a very strange profile problem under TS. I have a Windows 2003 server acting as a Terminal Server, and an SBS2000 server. Remote clients access the systems through the TS. I setup 10 remote clients (TS has 10 User licenses) and configured the profiles identically. All the clients profiles are working perfectly ....except one!! This was working perfectly for a while and then simply "lost it's settings" i.e the client logs on and instead of having all the icons on the desktop, she only has a couple, and exchange loses all it's settings in that profile. This is happening only in this one profile, no matter which machine I log on from (as I would expect). I have tried resetting the profile and it works fine for the day, I can log off and back on again, shut down and restart again, and it is fine, the following day...all has gone again!!     - RRAS ADSL Internet connection using NAT I have an ADSL internet connection that I have to share on the network for other users. I have setup the interface in RRAS and it dials out and connects to the ISP with DNS server entries and correct static IP address. NAT has been added as a protocol. However, when you ipconfig it, there is no default gateway specified on that interface!!! I have set up a dun to test the connection and it goes out OK with a default gateway specified. IE can detect the connection and all is OK. I cant use ICS on the DUN as it doesnt work with DHCP and DDNS running (grrrr). The difference between the two connections appears to be an option which is greyed out on the RRAS interface but not on the DUN. It's in the advanced options of the TCP/IP config - "This checkbox applies only when you are connected to a local network and a dial-up network simultaneously. When checked, data that cannot be sent on the local network is forwarded to the dial up network." Then there is a tick box for the "use default gateway on remote network". When I untick this box on the DUN it reacts the same way as the RRAS interface. I thought maybe I needed to add some static routes on the demand dial interface, but the default gateway greys out when you select it.     - Changing IP Address I am in process of trying to install DSL service and in the process have run into a situation that has created some concern with my SBS system. I have followed the recommended procedure by installing a second NIC. Can I change the IP address on the internal NIC without messing up the server? At this time of the year it is critical to keep my server running without problems as tax time is upon us. Should I wait until after April 15th to try and do something that I may regret now. It is possible to do the reverse and block everything and only enable, say HTTP access only rather than disabling the all protocols that are not required?     - Exchange Server We use this to run Outlook. It keeps filling up the server with useless data from the internet. In order to free up the server space we must do a tape backup of Exchange server, and then the space is freed up again.     - Import Contacts to Public Contact List I hate to post something when I know I've seen it before, but I cant' find it, so here it goes: I'm trying to create a contact list in the Public Folders which will contain a few hundred contacts.     - Did my due Diligence OK, I'm plowing ahead like a madman after getting the server patched. (detours topic breifly.....the server which never even blinked nor came up for air once in the last 3 years has self destructed 3 times since patching. 1. Compressed Exchange stores problem. I take partial blame for that one. 2. The WINS database up and left during a routine reboot. No idea why. 3. The server magically lost connection to all its drives today. Couldn't bring up Device Manager, couldn't open Services. Simple reboot seems to have restored whatever burped. And now, back to our story....) I have searched all over with regards to Remote Desktop Sharing on Windows 2000. Some say it exists, some say it existed, some say it never happened, some say Terminal server is the only way......blah blah blah. I'm happy to do the research if somebody can point my silly head in the right direction. I have VPN up and running. How do I get to use RDP to Windows 2000 machines? I'm trying to roll out some XP machines too, but I think that ones pretty self explanitory when it comes to Remote desktop. (still can't solve the HORRIBLY slow network issue though....)     - Great script against this new virus I use ORF for anti-spam, works ok, but I got this email from them today with this link in it to install on Exchange 2000 to block out this virus.     - OT Port 3127 probes on public IP My SBS 2000 network started getting numerous access attempts (blocked) on port 3127 on its public IP address starting 1/27/04 (yes, a day later) at 5:45PM PST coming from a variety of sources. The MyDoom/Novarg writeups talk about listening on that port, but I have not seen any mention of hightened probe activity over the internet. 1) Are you seeing these types of access attempts? 2) Is this at all related to the status of my network?     - Exchange offline recovery Hi, I was asked to recover personal and public folders (edb) off an Exchange 2003 server. The Windows 2003 on which it's installed can be accessed. However, I was told that the Active Directory has been removed "by mistake". I'm planning on installing a Windows 2003 with Exchange and copying the edb files over. I saw a few MS kb articles which refer to ESEUTIL. I will most probably go with the MS instructions. Any articles that I can be refered to or guidelines that you might have is appreciated.     - Outlook via POP3 bogging down Hi, We have one employee who works from home. She has been using POP3 to connect to our Exchange server for awhile. Yesterday she said she can not open Outlook. When it does, her CPU goes to 100% and everything locks up until she does control/alt/delete. She ran a full virus scan and it came up clean (after updating virus definitions). Since the PC is at her home it is difficult to trouble shoot. If she reboots her PC and doesn't open Outlook, everything works fine. We logged into her Exchange account via OWA and deleted most of the mail so it shouldn't be trying to download tons of stuff. Not sure what to do. Any help would be appreciated.     - Exchange Database Corrupt Due To W32.Novarg.A@mm Hi All, I Hope somebody can get to the bottom of this.... Got The W32.Novarg.A@mm yesterday on a workstation, Manually updated Pattern Files from Symantec website, scanned the server it reported virus not running on there but present in BAD Q.. Used the Registry fix from Symantec yesterday and cleared the virus from the workstation.... As the mail was comming in yesterday, it popped up and said the mail was infected so we jsut deleted it as normal... This morning started system up OK, Manually updated pattern files, all went well.. Saw there was a few emails with attachments, went to delete them, accidently clicked one, symanted virus message popped up and said it was in Quarentine.. A few seconds later, the hard drives on the server went wild and my outlook screen said there was no folders to view..!! My outlook was empty.! Restarted the server, noticed drive "M" was missing, checked the event log, well it was all RED. Turns out the E00.log file was now E00.chk. I ran eseutil and it reported the database was full of errors, it ran through and corrected this... Restart of server cleared all but 3 errors, main one being Event ID 454 Error Code 359 - Log files refer to a different database....     - What to choose? Hello, We have limited knowledge of servers and software today. We ever managed to install NT SBS 4.5 and we are willing to do this again with new server and software. We are not complete i**** but we want to do it ourselves. Afaik, we run a compaq having SBS45 having NT 4.00.1381 We also run a webserver, this one is to be replaced soon. Actually we where looking for a webserver but potentially we also would like it as fileserver. This might conflict with the existing server? So for extended webservices a breed of Windows Server 2003 seems an option. But since ever the fileserver matter comes into play, i focussed on SBS 2003 instead. We have a small company (<20) Our requirements is: 1) Webserver supporting ASP (IIS?) 2) In the future able to convert our .MDB databases to sql server (in a year or so) 3) Must handly proxy 4) Windows 98 is mostly used, we have a few XP (home+server) versions. 5) We don't have this currently, we need to access outlook via internet connection, not RAS This would be VPN right? Not intended as webbased but direct access. Our current webserver is a slow machine running IIS, when we want to access the files via Windows Explorer, it can take up to 30 seconds before icons are drawn. This is a reason to use an additional server as fileserver. Question is if this is being solved when we use a computer with much mem and speed. Or is it recomendable to use a separate fileserver? If VPN comes into play, we need to access the 2nd fileserver, at this moment the webserver can not 'see' the fileserver. This is for protection. Does VPN have severe protection?     - OWA Condition, connection to SBS2000 Hi all, Just so somebody else might find that info faster: Users wanted to connect to their SBS exchange mailbox via OWA from the LAN and from a different LAN (WAN connection via VPN). They constantly received the "401 Unauthorized" error after 3 login attempts. The usual suspects such as authorization issues, proxy et al (as described on the MS KB articles and others) did not solve the issue. Finally, after checking the logfiles the problem was the SMTP address of the users. During SBS install it is recommended to use something like mydomain.local for the domain name of the machine if it's not acting as a server visible to the internet. However, if another machine (such as a linux machine) is doing the mail relay and proxy services, users sometimes are set up with their smtp address being their name and the FQDN. Now to be able to access OWA for these users an additional SMTP address has to be added to their exchange profile giving their login name plus the local domain (e.g. userlogon@mydomain.local). This does not need to be the default smtp address. Just _one_ of the smtp addresses has to match the local domain and bingo.     - Sharepoint services / Intranet Hi, When you install SBS 2003 it installs the Intranet in English. How do I change that (I want Finnish). I tried by downloading the Finnish version of Sharepoint services and then uninstalled the English one before installing the Finnish one. It work fine except that the end result is not the same, the SBS 2003 Intranet is based on Sharepoint services, but it has things like the Incoming Faxes that are somehow custom built on top of it. Another question is, where does the Sharepoint services save it's data (I know that discussions and the like are saved in the database back end), in particular the files and custom pages.     - Novarg virus and SBS2000 w/Trend Micro I have SBS2000 with TrendMicro on it, and I'm not sure if I fully understand how it works with SBS yet. Maybe I don't have it installed correctly too. I really don't know since I just got Trend Micro this month for our SBS2000 server and workstations. We had numerous e-mails come in yesterday with the Novarg virus, a user in our office (duh!) opened the attachment. So, now our server shows it's infected as well as the workstation from the status section of Trend Micro located on SBS My concern is that when Trend Micros workstation client scans the workstation, it states it doesn't find any viruses once it cleaned the infection from last night, but the server still says that the workstation is infected Am I missing something here?     - Multiple Modem Ports for Shared Fax Services - Answer Folks, I found my answer. Win2003 standard and SBS 2003 support up to 4 (four) modems. Win2003 Enterprise is unlimted. You can control which ones are inbound and outbound. Technical refrences are: a) Windows 2003 Administrators Companion by MS Press. b) In SBS 2003 Server Management | Fax Services | right click | then to HELP. (so simple once you find the path) The capacities of this fax server are very impressive, I suggest a good reading of this HELP file for any one deploying Shared Fax Services.(SFS) You don't need third party apps like GFI unless you have some serious enterprise needs. Simply routing fax to a mail-box and giveing access to mail-box to multiple parties solves distribution issue for any small firm. By haveing a physical fax on same phone line with SFS to be two ring answer and physical for 4 rings, one will have still have acess to phyisical fax and also backup for fax service when the server crashes. <grin> Brooktrout has a new board that I did not know of that is designed special for SBS2003 and is an FSP ( Fax Service Provider) (internal link built into help file - intertesting product placment ad !) Also help mentions adaptive modems ( they determine between voice and fax call and decide how to answer) could be valuable for DSL line user to maximuize the value of phone line. Regards, David R. Hello All (again) I don't seem to be doing too well on this VPN business Thanks to Andy and Chad for their help in spotting the router as the cause of my problem. The firmware has been upgraded and I can now log in and be authenticated. Unfortunately now that I am in I can't do too much. My SBS server is called 'eppserver' and the domain is 'epp' I have tried \\eppserver\ through my browser but its not accessible If I ping my server IP I get a timed out I can ping 'EPP.local' and get a reply I can ping my server nic IP of 10.0.0.2 and get a reply Not sure where to go from here.     - Where to put the web server Can someone help me with some questions I have about where to put a win2003 web server on a multihomed sbs2000 network? I wanted to put it in the DMZ to keep it isolated from the LAN but then I found out that there is an application on it that LAN users need to access. I can put the web server in the DMZ and just enable netbios over TCP/IP to allow the LAN clients access to it; but then isn't that like placing the web server on the internal network anyway? Hi All, I've noticed if I'm outside of my network (at home) and try and send an email through my exchange server, with an invalid account (SMTP Authentication is enabled), but address it to someone inside my network, it works and sends through. However if I send an email through my exchange server, to a different domain, with an invalid account for the (smtp auth), it's denied (which is good)! I use the SMTP authentication for remote users.     - Authenitcation from remote sites smtp Hi All Simple prob I bet, I have exchange 2000 installed on a 2000 server, with ISA etc (sbs server I think) Internal users send/receive emails fine. External (remote users) also send/receive emails fine. Via outlook using SMTP The problem is external users, they can send emails even if they dont enter a password, which means anyone can send through my server! if I create a new account on my pc at home called TEST@domain.com, and enter my exchange IP address, I can send through my server to my hotmail account! AHHH this isn't good!! (open relay I think its called) I know you can specify certain machines only to access my SMTP protocol, but, the remote users IP addresses change as they use dial up. I want to make it so a password has to be entered (or stored) on the users machine in order for them to send an email through my exchange server.     - Email assault? Our company's SBS2K exchange server is being bombarded at the rate of 1 email every 3 minutes. I receive all the undeliverable. The emails are addressed on a first name basis i.e.... bob @ gmenterprises.com. They have the company address correct, but we use first name and last name in our email. What kind of an assault is this. Each email has a file attached that is either *.pif or *.scr as an attachment (which Symantec nicely blocks). Obviously, I know it must be a virus or Trojan of some sort. Why is this assault continuing? Why so many emails?     - exhange issue hi.. have a client with sbs2k3 standard running. their domain is called xxx.local their external domain is called xxx.com email is set up for delivery to be via pop3.. (i know, i know.. no my choice) one of the users has 2 email accounts accountA@xxx.com accountB@xx.com account A downloads email via pop3 to exchange accountB is not a dload to exchange, that just lives purely with web host. right now he can't seem to send emails to accountB from accountA. gets this bounce message. accountB@xx.com The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Is it possible to change the senders adres from a exchange user ?

Exchange always sends by the name that i gave the user. i have tryed o
copple of things ( change dislpay name e.t.c. )
but nothing seems to work.

can anyone help me ?

It uses the address from Active Directory. Check it in there. Active
Directory Users and Computers - User Properties - Email addresses - select
the correct address. Set as default
