    - Browsing website on own network I have a SBS 2000 domain setup. There is DSL and a Watchguard firewall. I also have a external host for my website. From anywhere on my network, I cannot access http://mydomainname.com. It says page cannot be displayed. Anywhere off the network I can access it. Does anyone know why this happening? I also have a Windows 2003 Server with IIS. Off the network I can see the IIS pages. On site I get the same problems... page cannot be displayed. Im guessing it might be some firewall thing?     - CALs Between SBS 2000 and Windows Server 2003 - IIS Hello Hope someone can help me on this. I have one SBS 2000 as a DC and one Win Server 2003 machine with IIS as standalone but part of the domain. I want employees to access the IIS machine from home, via web browser to get to IIS. This is not a public web server. How do I license this? I have 25 CAL's for SBS and the 5 CALs that come with 2003. Currently the 25 CAL's are reaching capacity. Would I need to buy more CALs for SBS2000 or is the 5 CALs that 2003 be sufficient enough? Only a few employees at a time are planning on using IIS at a time.     - Administrator Account I have always been under the assumption that the administrator account that is automatically setup when you install SBS 2000 is automatically a Domain Admin. I found out this is not true. How do I make the administrator account a domain admin. I have created an OU with our users listed. There is no administrator account created in the OU.     - I need to Add 2003 SBS Cal's to 2000 SBS I purchased 10 Cal's for 2003 SBS, I was told these were downgradable to 2000 SBS. I go into the SBS administrator console to add CALS, but it tells me to run the A:\Setup.exe to install additional CALS. I can't go directly into the licensing control panel because it tells me to go into the SBS admin console. I would run A:\Setup.exe, but I ordered licensing from microsoft and I only recieved the CAL Codes, no executables.     - Clients are getting locked out Hi everyone, We have had 24 clients to date and recently we have added another 4 clients to the server. The server has 40 licenses, but everyday I need to shut the server down because clients are started to get locked out while working. But ther server is working fine and I can browse the internet as well. Configuration 2 Net Cards- One for Isa Server, the other for Inner network.     - What can we safely remove from server C drive ? Hello. We need more room on our server C drive. Can anybody suggest what we can safely remove from the drive. We already moved Exchange to another drive. There is a folder at \Program Files\Microsoft Small Business Server Exchange SP3 that is 351 MB. Is that something that we need ? There is also a \Program Files\Exchsrvr folder that is 204MB. Do we need it ? What about the \WINNT\Installer folder at 184MB ? Do we need that ? What about the \WINNT\ServicePackFiles folder at 275MB ? Do we need that ? What about the \WINNT\Windows Update Setup Files folder at 12MB ? Do we need that ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.     - Imaging a Windows 2000 server running active directory Hi all, I have Imaged a few workstations before using symantec ghost. I have never used it to image a server, or a server running active directory. If the hard disk is the only thing I am changing will it work? What do I need to do? Oh yeah! This will be so as I can swap the hard disk for a newer one, I am not trying to move the install to a new server. The Hard disk is IDE, the IDE controllers are built in to the motherboard.     - external users. We have one user on the exchange server who often works from home. What we want to do is to forward all email for a particular email address : lizathome@..... back out to the ISP rather that be stored locally in the exchange server. I know there are nicer ways of doing this but this is what they are used to and I am not ready to set this 56k modem user up with remote access to the exchange server.     - POP3 Connector snap-in fails to initialize Hi, all; I use the POP3 connector with my SBS2000 server. I recently had to restore the system after a disk failure, and now the POP3 connector snap-in in the Exchange System Management Tool fails to load. The message I get is: Snap-in failed to initialize: MS Connector for POP3 mailboxes CLSID: etc. etc. etc. I would like to be able to get this running again without the risk of losing my existing setup.     - cached mode problem Windows xp sp1 Office 2000 (outlook 2003) Sbs system (all patched) I'm utilising the junk mail feature in outlook 2003 but for the life of me whenever I'm using outlook it says updating your deleted items with a progress bar.     - SBS2000 and a DMZ Hi Group, I am running a dual NIC SBS2000 with ISA configured as follows cable modem <--> netgear WGR614v2(192.168.0.1)providing DHCP <--> external NIC(192.168.0.5) <- ISA -> internal NIC(10.10.0.5) <--> SBS2K(DHCP/DNS) <-->LAN there are (4) wireless users that are "outside"(segement 192.168.0.xxx) there is an SBS2000 server and several desktops "inside"(segement 10.10.0.xxx) Inside everything is great... I'd have added a Windows 2003 server in the "outside" network segment and have done so at ip address 192.168.0.5 This server is a file, print server, and streaming media server. So the question is(drum roll) can I access the W2K3 server from "inside" the secure network? and if so HOW. Also, I'd like to push Syamntec AV Corp Ed client out to the (4) wireless desktops in the "DMZ" and install my main network printer in the DMZ as well. I am running SUS "inside" and would like to push the MS Updates out to the DMZ wireless desktops. I'd like to retains use of the network printer from within the secure network(10.10.0.xxx). I'd like to be able to access the shared data on the W2K3 shares(it is all music and video) from within the secure network(10.10.0.xxx) I'd like to PREVENT the 192.168.0.xxx segment from accessing the secure network.     - Treo 600 access for external users We are going to be adding Treo 600's to our infrastructure soon and they'll need to access email via IMAP or POP3. When I try to pull in email using POP3 I get complaints that OE can't connect and when I use IMAP it pulls in the Sent Items for the entire company. SPAM Hi, We have a global catchall account configured on our SBS 2000 server which has suddenly this morning started receiving huge amounts of spam from an SBS 2003 server in another part of the country. We know the dns name @spamsender.com which is sending this mail. Can anyone tell me how to block inbound pop3 mail by domain name using isa 2000.     - OT: GPO I want to be able to control user desktops etc. Does anyone have a dummies guide on how to do this? I tried to do this by adding an another OU and placing the users that I want and created a gpo. They don't seem to apply. I think that the gpo sbs creates in root domain.local overrides this as when I make changes in this one they apply although they apply to all users including the administrator which I don't want.     - Raid- adding new drives Hi, We have a IBM eServer 232 SBS2000 box with a ServeRAID 4Lx U160 SCSI controller and 3*18Gb drives set up as RAID 5. It has 6 hot plug hard drive slots on the front of the server. I would like to add another RAID array to add more space to the server (mostly so I can increase the users mailboxes). Is it possible to just add 3 more drives to the SCSI hotplug backplane (I think alll 6 SCSI drive spaces are connected to the same SCSI cable leading to the RAID card) and then simply add the new array using the ServeRAID manager? The RAID card only has one controller, so i'm not sure if this only means it can have one RAID array, or if it can have more, but performance will be affected? thanks, Dave Tag: categorizer Tag: 172401

    - Win 2k Server upgrade help needed... Hi, I had to change our server hard drive as it was failing and in doing so I needed to re-install Windows server 2000. We have 6 XP pc running off the main domain that is run by the win 2K server. After swapping the drives and starting to run the new install of win server using the same domain name I started to get some problems. At first everyone could log on to the network but after an update on the server, "windows up date" no one could see the domain. The only way I found was to take the PC off the domain and set them to a workgroup and the re-set them up to the domain. This has taken hours to do and you can's copy the user info over as there is a file in one of the folders that changes and if I do copy the old user folder over windows makes a new one on log-in. So I end up having to copy file by folder, very slow and a right pain. Also I still can't get one of the PC's to see the domain at all. I can see the server if I use \\server but when I try and join the domain it just can't see it. Where is the file that sets up the domain list and settings, maybe I can just hand code it in or something? Also is there any way to clear the domains cash?     - Cannot Send Email To Subdomain Hello, We have set up a subdomain for the Italian office of our company.org, and called it it.company.org. I had our ISP create MX records identifying the mail server and IP address for it.company.org. Everything works fine, EXCEPT we cannot send them an email from our office. It returns the following: (I substitued "company.company.org") Could not deliver the message in the time limit specified.     - Blocking IP traffic depending on the user.... Does anyone know where I might be able to find some software that can be installed on a teminal server that would allow me to block all HTTP requests from terminal server users on that machine - all "EXCEPT" for certain users? If the user has to run an authentication applet of some sort that would be fine. Best would be if the software would just "know" the logged on username... and could integrate with AD users and groups...     - Boot disk for PE2800 Anyone successfully created a boot floppy for a Dell PowerEdge 2800 with the onboard PERC 4e/Di? I can't seem to find the DOS drivers on the Dell website. It seems like I should be able to pull them from the Dell "Installation and Server Management" bootable CD if I knew what I was looking for. My initial and ultimate goal is to ghost (offline) my (RAID5) SBS2K OS partition to an external USB HDD, but I'm having trouble creating a (DOS) boot disk that can access the array or my external USB drive. If I can get the array accessible, I think maybe I can ghost the image to another SCSI drive (on the second controller channel) in the box and then later copy it to my USB HDD once I'm in Windows.     - domain trust failure after reloading XP pro for unresolved printing issues (couldn't connect to 98 client printers). XP is updated fully and the problem is now reversed. it won't KEEP its trust to the win2k domain.!!!!!! It mapps drives to server but will not allow 98 pc's to connect to share the printer. it says the trust relationship with the domain has failed......... I can remove the mappings. rejion the domain process and NOT reboot and they can all share. but if you reboot to truely jion the domain the trust is gone again. The machine account was reset under manage and this happens not matter which users is logged into the Pc's. even Administrator on both OS. however 2000 and other XP clients can connect? all clients and servers are fully updated. and have tried with and without firewalls. tried network card change but still same. ?????     - fax server security concerns... We are configuring one ou our WIndwos 2003 servers as a fax server. We wiull be installing a BrookTrout fax board. I have been asked before we purchase this if there are any security issues with allowing fax data to be transmitted directly to one of our servers...     - Question configuring an allow rule.... Up until now, we have not been using the ISA server portion of our Windows 2000 Small Business Server at all. We have a Watchguard Firebox which has been working well. However, we are having issues where all Terminal Server users have been able to access the internet when only one user is authenticated, and because of this it was suggested (as Watchguard does not have a fix for this) that we use ISA server to specify "who" can access the internet. I figured that I could simply go into the ISA Access Policy, under Site and Content Rules and create an "allow rule" for everything, that ONLY applies to users belonging to the "internet users" group. (a group I created in Active Dir) I also created a protocol rule for FTP, HTTP, HTTPS configured the exact same way - allowing access only to the "internet users" group. I have started both the "Web Content Filtering" and "Firewall" services, but domain users that are not part of the group in the ":allow for" settings can still gain access to the web! What am I doing wrong? I think what I want to do is quite simple. The Firebox is handling all the rest of the packet filtering etc... so I have no need to configure all of that in ISA. The company has changed internet domain name and whilst wishing to retain the old one the primary internet domain name must be the first. I suspect that I will find all the answers in the network setup wizard but I just wanted to see if there are any (undocumented) tricks which I will not know about until I actually do it.     - VPN, unable to browse network I have set up a VPN via ADSL. I am unable to browse the remote network when connected. I can ping remote computers both by IP and name. I can also browse individual computers by entering \\computername. However I cannot see all the computers when I double click the domain. The only computer I can see is the local one.     - SBS 2000 shared Fax service & Win XP Pro SP2 I have a number of clients that make use of the shared fax service in SBS2K SP4. However, after applying SP2 to XP Pro, the pop-up messages generated on the client once the fax has been sent no longer appear. Server application log indicts the following error - Microsoft Shared Fax Source: Outbound ID 32086 The fax service failed to generate a positive message box delivery receipt. This behavior is consistent whether or not I have the firewall turned on or not on the XP Pro clients. Any ideas as to where to look would be appreciated. These messages use to work just fine.     - Successful SBS2K Upgrades? I am in a situation that I really can't upgrade a client to SBS2K3 with a clean install approach. How many have successfully just put the SBS2K3 CD in the SBS2K server and upgraded it? The server is completely up-to-date on patches.The server is running perfectly with no critical type errors in the event viewer, pretty much all blue info stuff. Of couse I will have backups and I am going to exmerge all the mailboxes to PST files to be on the safe side. I am going to uninstall the antivirus and reinstall it when it is done upgrading. C: has 25gb free E: has 50gb free Success stories? Horror stories? Helpful hints or gotcha's to look out for?     - Public Folder Calendar and the six item limit Hello, Published a public folder calendar. 20 people using it. 10 people had appointments at the same time, 8 - 9 am, one day. They all entered the entry in the public calendar but only 6 of the 10 appointments showed up graphically. The other four appointments were there but don't show up anywhere. Were items disappearing from the public calendar? The way I found out that the 4 other entries were there, not deleted or missing, was by moving various appointments around and sure enough, there they all are. The "Day" view in Outlook 2002 just can't handle showing 6 appointments for the same time slot. Is there a way around this? How does a large company manage public folders, that is, getting past the six event problem? Can view the Calendar by another view but the "Day" is limiting. Even the "week" view is limiting as well.     - Outbound firewall protection on each pc., SBS2000 server. Which firewall? Hi All, This is a basic question, using Isa2K and the Microsoft Firewall Client (using the proxy). Using XP Service Pack 2, Pro clients. Need outbound firewall protection on each pc. Client uses ZoneAlarm Pro for home use, can this product be used on the PC, which has the firewall client running. With the potential for spyware installing, XP's SP2 firewall is not functional. What firewall plays well with ISA2000? Recommendations would be much appreciated. I like ZoneAlarm but read about privacy issues (can't conclude if they are real or not real and know there are settings to limit contact with ZoneAlarm). Esto es lo que le paso a un amigo, días atrás, mientras navegaba por estas paginas de noticias, así mismo como usted lo esta haciendo ahora, se me apareció un articulo similar a este que decía: "Usted puede ganar miles de dólares en pocas semanas con una inversión de US$6 dólares (seis dólares)", Enseguida pensé: "¡oh, no, otra estafa más ?", pero como la mayoría de nosotros, la curiosidad pudo más ,y seguí leyendo, y seguía diciendo:" Usted enviará US$1.-(un dólar) a cada uno de los 6 nombres y direcciones mencionados en este articulo , entonces usted anote su nombre y dirección al final de la lista reemplazando al numero #6 , y envíe o ponga este articulo a por lo menos 200 NEWS GROUPS (hay miles de estos en todo el mundo). Nota: Si te encuentras en otro país, debes cambiar tu moneda nacional a dólares, pues en todos los países cambian dólares y es más fácil para todos. No existe ningún truco, la diferencia de este sistema y otros, es que usted tiene una lista de 6 en vez de 5, esto significa que su promedio de ganancia será aproximadamente ¡¡¡¡¡15 veces mayor!!!!! Después de pensarlo una y otra vez y de consultarlo con unos amigos, decidí probarlo, pensé que lo único que podría perder era 6 estampillas y US$6 dólares y que lo tomaría como inversión verdad? Como probablemente muchos de nosotros estaba un poco preocupado por la legalidad de todo esto. Entonces consulte al Correo Central y me confirmaron que en realidad era legal!!!!!!!. Me quedé asombrado y de inmediato invertí mis US$6 dólares... IMAGINENSE QUE!!!!... a los días después, empecé a recibir DINERO por correo! Estaba feliz, como niño con juguete nuevo, y muy sorprendido!!!! Y pensaba que esto se acabaría en pocos días más y me trate de olvidar del tema, en todo caso ya había recuperado la inversión, pero el dinero seguía llegando. En mi primera semana hice entre US$20 y US$30 dólares. Para el final de la segunda semana había hecho un total de US$1.000 (mil dólares)!!!!!! No lo PODÍA CREER!; en la tercera semana $10.000 (diez mil) y todavía seguía llegando más!; en mi cuarta semana tenía un total de $41.000.- dólares y esto sigue llegando más rápidamente (en mi casa ,se la pasan abriendo sobres y yo consiguiendo "NEWSGROUP". ESTO SE PUSO SERIO. Todo esto valió la pena, la inversión de US$6 dólares y 6 estampillas, dio sus frutos, y pensar que yo gastaba más de US$6 dólares semanales en sorteos y lotería, y no pasaba nada. AHORA PERMÍTANME EXPLICARLES COMO FUNCIONA ESTO Y LO MAS IMPORTANTE......... EL PORQUE FUNCIONA EXCELENTEMENTE Usted asegúrese de imprimir este articulo AHORA, para sacar toda la información a medida que lo solicite. El proceso es muy fácil y consiste en 3 (tres) pasos sencillos: PASO Nº.1: Obtenga 6 hojas de papel y escriba en cada una de ellas "FAVOR DE INCLUIRME EN SU LISTA DE CORRESPONDENCIA O E-MAIL". Ahora consiga 6 billetes de US$1 (un dólar) e introduzca cada dólar en un sobre con la hoja, de manera de envolver el billete con la hoja, con el fin de que el billete no se vea a través del sobre!!. Estaría haciendo otros $125 adicionales, ahora estas 125 personas ponen un mínimo de 200 grupos con mi nombre en el #3 lugar y solo recibe 5 respuestas cada una ,yo recibo un adicional de $625!!!!!!!!!, ok, Aquí esta la parte mas divertida, cada una de estas 625 personas ponen sus cartas con otros 200 grupos con mi nombre en el #2 lugar y cada una recibe solo 5 respuestas .Esto hace que yo reciba $3.125 dolares adicionales!!!!!!!!!!! Estas 3.125 personas enviaran este mensaje a un mínimo de 200 grupos, con mi nombre en el #1 lugar, y solo 5 personas responden de los 200 grupos ,esto hace que yo reciba $15.625 dólares!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! De una inversión de $6 .- dólares , no creen que es FABULOSO!!!!!!!!!!!!!?????????????. Y como dije antes, que solo 5 personas respondan de 200 grupos,(el promedio real es de 20 a 30 personas)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SI QUIEREN SAQUEN CÁLCULOS!!!!!!!!! SI SOLO 15 PERSONAS RESPONDEN ....... Algunas personas llegan a pensar...." y si nadie me responde"..... QUÉ, cual es la chance de que esto pase, si hay miles y miles de personas honestas (que, como nosotros) buscan una manera de tener independencia financiera y pagar cuentas!!!!!!, y están dispuestas a tratar, pues " NO HAY PEOR LUCHA QUE, LA QUE NO SE HACE!", se estima que hay 20.000 a 50.000 nuevos usuarios TODOS LOS DIAS, ( en todo el mundo).     - Cannot Manage Client Computers Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance. I administer a Windows 2000 Small Business Server network with approximately 15 Windows XP Pro workstations. I am having a problem managing some workstations for the SBS Administrator Console. For instance, in trying to create a file share on some of the clients, I receive an "Access Denied" error while logged in as the Administrator. In fact, most of the management functions give me the same error or an error that the workstation could not be reached. However, the workstation appears in the list of connected computers, appears to logon correctly, and has access to network resources. I am really lost as to what the problem might be.     - Can't log in Stuck on Applying Personal Settings I manage a number of Servers, some of which are Windows 2000 SBS. Occassionally when trying to log into a Windows 2000 SBS server it will hang on Applying Personal Settings and you can't log into the server at all. While it is in this state the network is still completly operational and no other errors seem to occur. The only solutions seems to be to physically press the Reset button.     - Outlook logon SBS 2000 I have an SBS 2000 server with clients (23 in total) running Office 2000 or Office XP. One user attempts to open Outlook (2000 or XP) and immediately gets an error screen which diappears to quickly to read and the Outlook screen disappears. We have tried setting up an Outlook profile on two other machines running win XP and get the same problem. I note in Exchange System Administrator that the last login is NT/Authority System and not the local user. I have set up max logging on mailbox logons to try to get some information as to why the problem is occurring.     - sbs2k - Exchange O/G email All, Been having major problems getting email out of a Clients site. Has been fine, then they started getting delay and fail notifications coming back. ISP if Force9 (part of the Plusnet group I believe), and there has been a rumour they have been having relay problems. The Server is maintained/supported by a third party, and I freely admit that Exchange is well beyond me. They have changed from 'relay' to 'dns' based email sending. - That sounds clumsy, but we know what I mean.. ;-) This has cleared the backlog of 'stuck' mail, but there seems to be a few problems.. especially to aol.com in the US. One particular recipient has mail waiting to be delivered and it has retried 50 times! Do any of the Group have experience of dns-based email distribution, and any caveats about it? Does anyone know why an email to a valid aol.com address should 'stick' like this? - Surely it will be delivered to a server at aol, and not need the recipients machine to be online when it is sent?     - all the workstations and servers can not get on internet Hi, All the workstation and Servers lost internet connection suddenly yesterday afternoon. categorizer.
Other messages go through it is just message that are generated by the Out
of office assistant that get stuck.
