Users can receive mail but cannot send email to external addresses. They can
send to everyone internally. When clicking "send and receive" from an
outlook client an error is returned that says "the tcp/ip connection was
unexpectedly terminated" .

This started to occur after a linksys router was reset to factory defaults.
After being reset the router came back online with an address that conficted
with the SBS server. (192.168.1.1) SBS displayed a message about a
conflicting ipaddress and the router was taken back offline and set to its
previous address. (192.168.1.5) Then everything was working except external
email.

Any ideas ?

thanks !

You are using Exchange for all mail (internal/external)?

I have not experienced this myself... but from older posts it seems to
indicate that it has something to do with the MTU settings (which is
consistent with the reseting to factory defaults settings on the router). I
think the default value should be 1500... maybe you need to adjust this (one
post suggested 1464).

If XP clients, Are you using ISA and the Microsoft Firewall Client? Make
sure the Microsoft Firewall Client is installed if you are using
ISA.Otherwise, you get this error in Outlook. I had it where I was using the
newserver as my ISA server, installed Outlook and tried to do any external
mail and it always failed. My internet would work fine. Now I insall the
Firwall Client before I configure Outlook. One thought.

Thanks for the replies. They are all win2000 clients running the ms client
firewall and outlook 2000.

Next, I'll try adjusting the MTU settings

Any other ideas are appreciated. Any standard troubleshooting tips for this
type of problem ?
